Hi guys, My friend and I are both proficient solo riders but have always fancied a go on a sidecar. We recently purchased a 280 climber with Rushton chair to have a go. We both loved it and have begun to attempt some harder sections however, we are having problems going up small steps/logs. When we 'launch' the third wheel hits the step and throws the rig to the left. What should the passenger/rider be doing as we hit the step? I assume the passenger throws there wait behind the rider? The chair has a falcon 10" shock that is virtually rigid. I plan to send this off the falcon shortly to be serviced and maybe have a softer spring, but have been told the spring should…

I seem to have landed myself with the job of co-ordinating the offroad display area of the Festival of Sidecars! This year, we would like to have a good display and demos of all types of competition sidecars, and I am working on plans to allow members of the public to be able to try passengering (and possibly driving where drivers are willing to allow this). Currently it looks viable to have this for sidecarcross and enduro outfits on the motocross track, and I am hoping that there is enough land that would be suitable to set up a few trials sections. Hi folks, Fancy having a go at sidecar trials and currently own a 1975 Ossa Mar 250. 2 questions if i may, does anyone know of a used chair for sale for sensible money, if not i will have a go at making one as plenty of reference photos around and i can weld (or so i tell myself) but has anyone done it to an Ossa before, can find pictures of a yellow Ossa 350 on the web but the frame looks different, it's the headstock mount that looks tricky to resolve.

Hello, My first post so please be gentle! I have a Montesa 315 in great shape and am considering having a go at sidecar trials after my new girlfriend said she would rather compete together than stand watching me go solo!! We live in North East Scotland and I cannot find a club that runs a sidecar trial -- any ideas please or even if a club allows some practise with chairs. If there is a yes answer, I then need the chair...... Gary.

For all you sidecar enthusiasts, the Goodwin Sheild is being hosted by Normandy Club on the 27th of February 2011 at the Old Quarry Betchworth, Nr Dorking, Surrey.

Thought I'd share my new sidecar outfit. I made the chair as a close copy of a Rushton a colleague lent me that he uses with a Montesa. Tubing is 19mm x 1.6 and 25mm x 2.5mm. Chair wheel lead is 10.0''. Shock is from Falcon. Wheel hub is an unknown brand with 20mm ID bearings. Rim is 17'' x 1.2'm Honda Cub with tyre to suit. Brake is Hope. Swing arm is on nylon bushes and bronze sleeved shaft - thought I'd try without roller bearings and see how long it lasted...at least it won't seize with rust! Bike is a 2002 Gasgas 250 Pro. First outing last weekend was entertaining to say the least. Hope to do some club trials at Mansfield Maun and see how we get on...

Hi Guys. Ive watched a few videos of Sidecar Trials on YouTube and it looks like great fun, But there is little info available regarding the cost of building a sidecar ? Who builds them and for what kind of price ? Is it possible for a father /son team to enter ? what is the minimum age ? Recommended bike ? (generally)

Hi, newbie here ........ I've been building and evolving a Honda 125 for a year now, not for competition but for getting quietly and carefully around various farms and landscapes. As a solo it's more than proved itself, but a small chair came along and I'm here to look for advice. The bike is a CB125S frame with an XL fromt end, a CG motor and a SL tank. And quite a lot of fabrication. love the push rod powerplant which has oodles of torque and is very economical. Wow! took place in my first chair event a few weeks ago. Whilst waiting for my chair to be fitted to my Beamish, someone else in the club had fitted one to a TY Pinky. Neither of us had ridden sidecar before and the start was not clever or pretty but the more we rode, the more we improved and at the end I was hooked, so much that I am not sure if I want to ride or go in the chair (which was where I ended up) !!! The fact that two people now have outfits has resulted in the club having a white route sidecar class for next year where the venue suits it and we hope that more people will come on board... For some reason the Mel Harrison sidecar national trial this weekend seems to lack interest in the sidecar fraternity despite the fact that a month ago the decision was taken NOT to run the event at Cockhill Mines, Greehow in the interests of safety. Cockhill is not exactly user friendly towards three wheelers. An approach was made to Norman Shepherd at Fellbeck to stage the trial on his acres, to which Norman promptly gave the nod. With a fine mixture of streams, woodland, rocks, and grassy climbs and gullies, wet and dry over a lap distance of almost two miles all off road the venue is ideal being three miles from Pateley Bridge town centre. Is there anywhere in the Yorkshire area that does pre 65 sidecar trials. I am a complete novice although I raced sidecar outfits for 27 years and now find I am missing being involved in some form of motorcycle sport. I have been in touch with a number of clubs and it seems no one caters for sidecars within a 3 hour drive of me I would even be interested in twinshock but it has to be sidecars. Thanks

Greetings from sunny Brisbane! My son in law and I have a number of TY175's in various stages of build and a single TY250 that we are planning to put a chair on. He is a competitive solo rider (B grade from memory) whilst I'm a complete trials novice but been riding solo and outfits all my life. We have been searching for ages around the net for info on building your own chair from scratch and have come up mostly blank. Apart from telling us we're crazy, can anyone point us at some decent information - either online or printed. There's very few chairs active here in Aus and not a lot of info. Cheers Nigel.
