Hi all, Coming off of a no throttle condition, my engine goes through a brief "flat spot" where it nearly stalls. Advancing the throttle just a bit farther makes it suddenly 'spring' to life and it runs well from there on up to high RPMs. I thoroughly cleaned out the carburetor, even all of the little passages (all that I could find, anyway) and the bike continues to run erratic at low speeds. A possible clue: Adjusting the air mixture screw on the carb seems to make very little, if any, difference in how the engine runs. I thought perhaps the rubber insulator was leaking between the carb and block, so I tightly wrapped the joints with electrical tape--just as a test. I…

Finally got around to getting the old 199B 340 Sherpa running again. Trying desperately to sort out the "projects" worth persevering with and getting rid of everything else. So fitted the new VM28 carb thats been sitting in the draw for the past 18 months but the carburation just seems a bit off. The carb has been jetted to suit a 340 199B but thats always a bit of a guess so i'm wondering if anybody has fitted a VM 28 and got it running spot on and if so what jets they are using. From memory the jets in it are as follows Main 130 Pilot 35 Needle jet N8 Needle 5DPJ i think Slide is 2.5 The pilot feels a bit too lean especially as the only way i can get it to be a…

I have a question that I am sure one of you could answer. I purchused a basket case Bultaco M159 a while back and have since got it going with all of your collective help. The only trouble has been adjusting the clutch I have tried every possible adjustment and I can not get the clutch to 100% completely disengage (almost but not quite). It has the ball, mushroom and the bearing installed and when in gear runs well and does not slip but is difficult to shift without grinding. The clutch basket is the "pin style" which might be incorrect but it was the only one in the pile of parts. Is it possible the clutch rod was from the Matador that was part of the package and …

Does someone have a parts diagram or picture of the front brake cable connection to the brake for a 71 Alpina? A picture of what I have is below. I would expect some type of clamp or threaded piece to hold the cable but there is just a little bracket with a hole. Does the cable just float on top? Am I missing something? I'm not sure what to make of this. Thanks!!

Hi, My Sherpa is fitted with a 27mm Amal Mk2 carb (spanish), Im new to Bultacos and the bloke I got the bike off told me it was not the original carb. Is this correct? Is 27mm the right size and if so what jetting would be standard. Ive got loads of Amal bits and pieces so I can play about to get it right, but a starting point would be good. many thanks Stu

Hi, I think (?) my 190 sherpa should have a head steady - there's certainly a bracket on the frame that look like its for that purpose and ive heard a few people mention them on this site. Does anyone know if a 190 should have one and if so, would anyone be so kind as to let me have a picture? many thanks Stu

Hello all- I am new here and have a question. On the fill plug for the clutch cover there is a hose that runs up towards the top of the head. Mine likes to spew oil out of that hose and makes a mess. Has anyone else encountered this? My manual says 300cc of oil in the clutch side (maybe that's too much?). The only other thing I can think of is maybe the crank seal is letting pressure from the crankcase in. The bike runs beautiful and always starts easy. I was thinking of adding some sort of foam breather to the top of the hose. Any help would be appreciated. Also another quick question- is the model 199A supposed to have an aluminum skidplate? Mine has a steel o…

I have been doing some jobs on a friends 199a and have taken the Bing carb off to clean it out.Blew it out with an airline and put it back on the bike. Now the bike runs very poorly as if it is getting too much fuel and flooding, though there is no petrol coming out anywhere. The bike runs as if the choke is on and when you put the choke on it is worse.I have messed about with the float height but seems to make no difference.I know the bike runs fine otherwise as I have put the Amal carb from my own 190 onto it and it runs fine with it on.I have had the Bing on and off numerous times, checked the choke is not stuck on,blown jets out etc but to no avail. The bike was running …

A friend of mine is renovating a Model 10. The bike has obviously been abused in the past. Can anyone please supply a picture of the rear brake lever attachment to the frame, as the bodge that is fitted at the moment never came from the factory. Thanks

I have a set of 1971 Alpina forks on a C15. The forks came with no mud guard or mud guard brackets. I have seen a few pictures of Alipnas with high MX style mud guards but I want to run low ..trials, standard type plastic mud guards. What can I use for brackets? Where can I get them? Should I just make some U shaped Aluminium bends or would something stiff... more like a brace/ bracket be desirable? Thanks!!
