One brilliant side effect of this Social Isolation is that I have plenty of garage time to finally get dug into my 199B restoration. I notice this evening when attempting to fit the rear shocks that one of the threaded dowls to hold the Shocks to the Swinging arm has been powder Coated inside and has clogged the threads. What size tap must I use to redress the threads. Is it Metric or Metric Fine? Here a link of the type of screws and washers I’ll be using. https://www.inmotiontrials.com/product/rear-shock-fixing-kit-silver/

Hi, I want to remove the Amal carb from my newly acquired Sherpa mod. 190 1977 250 for cleaning. The throttle cable enters the top of the carb through a black knurled cap which looks like it should just screw off but its really tight. Before I go and break something can someone tell me if this is the case and how to do it properly please?? Cheers

Hi guys l have been having some great fun on my Sherpa 350 183 recently however I did a silly thing and left it outside for a few days and it got wet and stood there for a bit and so she didn’t start for a while. I re-cleaned the carb and renewed spark plug and it fired up BUT, the throttle cable was stuck on full whack and as I don’t have a kill switch on it yet it ran, full throttle for around 20-30 seconds before cutting out. I adjusted the throttle cable, and It re started moments later but then it came to a spluttering stop with a small backfire. Now it doesn’t start! I’ve tried a couple of new plugs, but nothing as of yet. Still plenty of compressi…

Hello everyone, I have a 73 Bultaco Alpina M 85 with a Amal carb. The bikes motor has been rebuilt & it has the original Amal carb on it which I have rebuilt with all new gaskets, float, & screens. My problem is the tickler will not tic over. I have talked to Hugh’s Bultaco here in the states & he said the new gaskets are thicker & that might be stopping the plunger from pushing on the float. I’m going to remove the cab & inspect the plunger to see if it comes apart. Has anyone ever had this issue before? Because without the bowl flooding over, these bikes are hard to start. Thanks, Colby

Engine builder's just rung and said he's bolted the crankcases together and the crank is really tight. With a firm grip you can just about turn the engine over. It should turn smoothly and easily shouldn't it? He's thinking the crank could be out of alignment. He said everything seemed ok when the first bearing went in, then went pear shaped when the second went in and the two cases were tightened up. I have to add that I'm not very familiar with how the engine goes together but I think I trust him. The next step is to have it apart and have the alignment checked this weekend(ish). Any clues as to where something could have gone wrong? Ta verily 1973 Bultaco 92

Hello All - Well... the time has finally come for a complete engine overhaul. I've been enjoying faultless performance from my 199a for over ten years, with only some minor top end work when she was first purchased. Following a recent timing check and adjustment though, I noticed some up and down play in my main bearings. Not a problem (motivation-permitting)... but, before I begin tear things down, I thought I'd look for a quality replacement con rod kit to have my crank serviced while I'm at it. Any recommendations for the best quality replacement con rod rebuild kit for a 350 199a currently available? My nearest and most favorite OEM supplier here in the …

I wanted to adjust the timing of my Alpina 188 (should be between 2.5 and 2.7 mm BTDC) but the adjustment range is between 4.5 mm and 13.5 mm! Do you have any idea what the possible cause of this problem is?

I'm just finishing of the 199a engine rebuild, put new points in & gapped them to 0.4mm. I've gone to set the timing & found that I can't get it set any closer than 4mm before top. The ignition is fully retarded, that is the backplate is fully turned anticlockwise up against the screws in the slots. I'm a bit stumped, has anyone come across this before? Dave.

Thinking about giving my 199A a face lift over the winter.I,m kicking around going to the 199B color as the A model is just too much blue for me.If I do should I cut the rear frame loop off like the B ? It does look better to me,but I kind of hate to ruin the originality of the A.In my thinking the loop also helps keep a little rigidity back there also.My other color scheme idea is silver frame, red tank and side panels with white fenders. Any opinions are welcome. Cheers, Scott

My Model 124 is soon to be rebuilt to tidy things up and as a part of the rebuild I shall change the footrest brackets to enable Hebo's to be fitted. What I would also like to do is move the handlebar mount position to somewhere over the steering stem instead of behind it as is standard on Bultaco, does anyone have any ideas as to how best achieve this?

Does anyone know the torque specification for the crankcase nuts on the left side of a 250 cc (M91) engine? I can't seem to find this info anywhere. If not an "official" spec, then I would at least appreciate a reasonable figure to use in the opinion of the experts here. Please also indicate if this torque would be the same for the single recessed hex-head bolt at the front of the crankcase. Many thanks!
