My Alpina Model 188 was originaly fitted with a battery. I do not have a wiring diagram but I assume that it will need to have a rectifier fitted. This was missing when I bought the bike. Rather than trying to track down an original rectifier that will probabaly be old stock, expensive and not work anyway I was planning of fitting a simple bridge rectifier from RS or other supplier of choice. Has anybody had an experiance of a similar mod and can give advice? I think most owners will not have expriance of Bultaco's with batteries so am not expecting a reply but thought I would ask anyway. To be honest the bike will very rarely used in the dark so if the charging sys…

Is there any specific symptom that can be caused by a partially blocked (or misplaced baffle) in the front muffler please, before i cut it open? I have a running problem only when crawling along at up to 1/4 throttle opening - pinging / jerky / like pre-igniting. Bike is very responsive otherwise. Have new seals , bearings, piston, carb, ignition. Have done a leak down test - ok. Have tried a lectron / bing / oko carbs all with different combos of jetting. Have tried different timing settings. Muffler was repacked not so long ago by cutting a section out of the back near the bracket and maybe i was too aggressive at stuffing material back in and dislodged baffle??? …

decided to use the top end off another 340 that I've been restoring in order to save a little money putting my stolen bike back in service. I notice that the piston on this bike has no holes drilled in the sides as my other 340 has. Both jugs are identical. Will this make a big difference in performance? What is the purpose of the holes if the motor will run without them?

The piston diameter on my 198B is 73.75 giving a size of 256cc. The underside of the piston is stamped DINAMIN, and although the piston and bore are in good condition I wonder if anybody knows if this was a fairly standard mod just to maximise the capacity rather than being overbored so many times over the years for some strange reason. Also does anybody know what bike would this piston? might have come from? GasGas perhaps?? The InMotion site shows piston sizes up to 73.00 only. Thanks.

Hello! I have two old Sherpa T's that are in very nice shape and as far as the body work goes, and as such I would like to pull the original body work and preserve it while ridding with non original body work, but both tanks would be in need of repair to be functional as one has a crack and the other is missing one logo and has a hole. so my questions are, would the tanks be worth preserving at this point? I have all of the original paperwork, tools, bags, accessories, etc with them and can see how even having the original tanks would be a plus, but with the damage would any reasonable person here share that view at all? If not I'm inclined to simply repair the tanks an…

I'd like to hear some evaluations from those that have used them. It seems to me that a 325 has plenty of power, but I wonder if an ignition with an advance curve would noticeably widen the power band by letting the engine rev higher. That would likely rerduce the need for shifting in a section.

About 30 years ago, my family used to own a mustard colored 250cc Bultaco Sherpa with a Francis Barnett engine. this was in the northeast of England. I know it was sold on when I was young, I was gutted as I didn't want mt dad to sell it. it a long shot but has anybody here ever come across a mustard colored Bultaco?
