Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Hi there, can anyone recommend a MOT centre in Glasgow area who can MOT my TY250 on a daytime only test. I'm being told that these tests don't exist anymore but there must be a way around it? Thanks

Having just received back my V5 for road registering my TXT 280 (thanks to all those who gave advice) I am now wondering what is an appropriate size of registration plate to get. The same size as my road bike would look daft, and yet some of the ones I saw at a trial today are no bigger than the width of the mud guard. I understand there is a legal requirement but wondered if there was an 'accepted' size for a trials bike?

Anyone here insure their bike for on the road use and theft, if so who do you insure it with and what does it cost? Mines already road registered and currently SORN. Obviously I'm not looking to actually ride it around on the road but insurance would be handy for a bit of green laning or if it ever gets stolen from my garage.

As it says in the title! I wanted to road register my bike so I could insure it tpf&t, I'm not that interested in riding it on the road. Maybe the odd road trial and a few local green lanes. I sent the V55 Application form off with insurance, MOT and a letter from Steve Saunders (who has been very helpful) stating that when the bike was imported (in 2012), the NOVA system was not in place. I have just purchased a 2012 Jotagas which I'm trying to get road registered. I believe I will need to have an MOT, tax and insurance to do this. The original importer has been brilliant in supplying their documentation. I also have a 1965 Triumph Tiger Cub Trials which I got classic bike insurance for (£50 fully comp). However I don't think they insure modern bikes. Can anyone recommend an insurance company that would insure either the Jotagas separately or preferably both Trials bikes on a multi bike policy I am more interested in theft as road use will be very occasional at best! Has anybody done this? At the moment everything I have is insured on its frame numbers anyway but it would be nice to have a proper registration number even if it is a Q. I have had a look at DVLA information sheet INF85 and it says "You should send documentation showing the Vehicle Identifcation Number (VIN), engine number and proof of ownership with your application" I could probably in most cases find the original hand written receipts if they haven't fallen apart, but does anybody know exactly what they want? And what I can send if I can't find a receipt? It would be easy enough to take a photo of engine and frame numbers to send along with the application. …

I've lost my V5C and can't remember the registration number. I've downloaded a V62 form to get a replacement V5C, but can't answer what the registration number is... that's why I was looking for the V5C to make a new number plate. I've spoken to the DVLA and they said I can fill in a form to find out if the bike has previously registered, but that could take 8 to 12 weeks for them to do a search. Anyone know how I can find the registration number a bit quicker?

Hi Guys, Just bought an 85 TY250 Mono for restoration and it looks like the old mudguard might have had a reg number plate on it, both vin and engine number are correct. Would I be able to HPI just off the VIN ? Thanks in advance guys

Have the rules on SORN changed? I normally re-sorn my bike every October but now the DVLA website keeps telling me that the bike is currently sorn? (the last time I Declared it was oct 2013)

Hi guys, I rang Carol Nash today to insure my non road registered Beta Evo 200 2013, the girl asked if it was in a garage or shed i said it was in a 17 x 9 foot breeze block shed, she asked if i could get a car in to which i replied no as it only has a pedestrian sized door which is of steel construction, she said the underwriter would not accept the building as it was not classed as a garage.........Help!

Been looking to insure my new Gas Gas (not yet picked up) for fire & theft from home as it will be worth £5k+. I tried Carole Nash off road insurance and they won't insure anything over £5k at all. I can't find anyone else. MSM only cover road registered bikes but I don't need to register it on the road and doing that will also make it more expensive as I'll have to tax it as well as register and insure it. Hi I have been buying a beta Rev 3 270 2005 the problem Im having is I'm wanting to put it on the road but here's the catch I bought the bike and the owner of the bike had been using it off road and didn't have a v5 or any reg plate with the bike but he insists that it has been registered by the owner before him so we're do I go from here because to apply for a v5 you need the reg number ( what I have not got ) and I can't re register it because it's supposenly registered . Hi So the problem I have is insuring my bike at a different address to where I am living. The address is my ex-partners. Doodson would only insure mine if his was insured at the same time but now I am registering it they are unwilling to do that. Why are insurers unwilling to insure my bike at a different address? Will this change when it is registered? I don't understand why I can't insure my bike, on my own, without his being done too - insurers don't make sense!! If anyone can enlighten me I would be very greatful!

I need to renew my insurance for my road registered Beta Evo 250 2T. I was with Bennetts for my Beta Techno 250 but apparently they cannot get me insurance for my Evo. Who do you use? Any recommendations? Thanks in anticipation.
