As I get going on my restoration of my x2 Cotas, anyone know where I can find the Ulf Karlson graphics? Oh and is there a pantone for the Montesa Red used on the tank unit? Cheers

Hi all, just recently got a 247 21M and wanted to remove the cylinder so I can start the rebuild process, how do to I remove it? I read somewhere to put it in a furnace and it will pull away from the engine cases. Are there any other ways? Also does anyone know the paint code for the tank? thanks

I found this site which, although in Spanish, gives the most comprehensive explanation of the evolution and development of the 247 that I have seen. Google translate may help! http://nacho247.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/evolucion-de-la-cota-247.html

Hi all, Am I right in thinking that if I undo the drain bolt near the bottom of the fork in the picture it should allow the oil to drain out? I have undone both sides and nothing comes out. I guess this means there us no oil in them or is there some other reason nothing comes out?

Sorry, some more newbie questions; Forks Will forks from a later 247 (1978/9) fit as a straight swap on my 1973 bike? One of my fork tubes is bent, and I am unsure whether to go for a later pair currently being listed on eBay, or to try to get mine straightened. There are mixed opinions as to whether or not it is worth trying to straighten a bent fork anyway (assuming that there are no creases). Rear shocks What is the correct size/length? I am fairly heavy (85-90kg depending on lunch) so what would be a suitable specification if I were to go for new shocks or springs? I am trying to work out whether it is worth rebuilding the old Telescos (which are totally worn ou…

Hi - just checked my forks and as I suspected my left oil was low - has been bouncing off to the left .... no sign of leaks but it has been 6 months or more since I checked - anyway my lousy Spanish manual says 190cc but it has been wrong before and this doesn't seem like much for a decent size fork - can anyone please confirm the front fork capacity for a 1976 Cota 247

Hi I have a 1976 Cota 247 and I got hold of a new tank which has the half trail type seat and large gold lettering COTA 247 (not the full 247T but much bigger than trials seat - I have seen similar setup on 348/349's ) The tank sits nicely but the mounting points on the side (no holes drilled - it is unused) are at least 10mm too wide from my frame and I am wondering if the later model 247s had a wider frame. I am asking because I have a guy interested but don't want to sell him something that won't fit.

OK, Montesa guys. My front end is a little cobbled together, but I just got this thing going for the first time in MANY years, and I'm psyched to ride. Needless to say, the front brake will never be like the Sherco I sold last year, but what can I really expect from the front brake? Right now it seems like a joke. Won't lock at any speed except maybe on ice. I've even got it adjusted so it drags a bit just so I can be sure all my cable/lever motion is doing something. Any tricks to adjusting/tweaking these? Should the backing plate float a little so it centers? I think I see why folks put a compression release on these things!

Hi my 247 has started randomly jumping out of first gear. The only pattern I recognise is that it is only very occasional however when it does it when starting off on a steep slope - it becomes hard to forget Only first gear and always in the first 5 to 10 metres. It never jumps out after that initial period.

Hi, I was looking to replace the piston and re-bore my '71. Piston kits look pretty pricey, am I missing something or is that just the way it is. The cheapest I've seen one is £175. Thanks, Daniel.

Can any Monty experts tell me if there's any tricks to removing the swingarm's pivot sleeeve (on a late 247)? The swingarm is out of the frame & the pivot shaft/bolt is also out. But when I try to remove the sleeve, which presumably should just slide out of the bushes, it wants to 'pick up' the bush & push it thro the other side (whatever side I try) & basically just seizes up. Has anyone had a similar problem & resolved it? Am I missing some basic 'trick'? Or is it just a case of using more force?

Hi. Well today I managed to fit a new front tyre to my 247, the first tyre I have ever fitted on a bike. It went OK. My next problem is when i put the bike in gear it tries to move forward so i have to keep the brake on. How easy is it to put a clutch in these and do you need any special tools. Could it be that the clutch cable has just stretched?
