Montesa

  1. Started by turps,

Hive mind can you help me please. 247 with Electrex ignition and properly jetted OKO carb. Starts and runs fine but when riding it if you open the throttle there's not much snappiness about it and it seems a bit sluggish. Could this be it needing new piston and rings (hope not, too pricey), it doesn't smoke much or maybe a case of the exhaust needing a good decoke and air filter cleaned/replaced? Thanks in advance

Just found this bike on a push bike site, seems a bit suspicious, anyone recognise it? Stolen? Too cheap in my opinion. http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/882436/ Cheers, Frazer

Hope someone can help with what may be a fairly easy solution that is how to fit a stop button to my cota 200, there is one wire that comes from flywheel/points within the engine and runs up to the coil under the tank .Is it just a case of joining to this wire and then to a button on the bars? I haven't got a diagram is there one on the web I have looked but cant find one . Any help would be appreciated. OLD BONES

In the process of painting my '84 349 tank cover, look carefully at the front where it secures to the frame. On all the photo's I've looked at, the tanks/covers are held in with a bolt that goes through the tank itself, on mine, it looks like the tank simply 'hooks' over mounting lugs. It's a fibreglass tank cover that sits over an alloy tank. I did think has someone broken the front of the tank & merely 'chopped' it about, but the curves on the top right of the photo look standard. Any thoughts much appreciated.

  8. I recently ordered a couple Jitsie airfilters for my 05 4rt. It's pretty obvious that they don't use the stock mesh flame arrester, but to you use the top plastic frame or just put the bolts through the holes in the filter and call it good? I've been using the plastic holder and bolt holes in the filter are getting torn off. Thanks.

I bought the 02 315R took it a part and I found out NO SUB-AIR CLEANER? does it come with it? Thanks

  10. Started by rockgardener,

My new-to-me 2001 315R has been starting FIRST kick every time since I got the carb sorted a few days ago. I've still only been able to putt around the yard with it so far, but it's been running fine. I put it up on a work stand for the first time to lube the chain. The bike was at a bit of a nose-down angle, with the rear wheel off the ground. After lubing the chain, I realized a big puddle of fuel was forming under the bike. There was no sign of any fuel leak before this, so I can only assume that the fuel was coming from the carb vent tube. (It was dark, the light was poor, and I had to rush out soon, so I couldn't thoroughly examine it.) Once the bike was back …

Hurrah, Mrs Dabber has gone and ordered a Repsol for my birthday. (should have arrived 3 weeks ago, but still hasnt). In terms of setup I plan to detune it and lower the gearing to make ait as soft as possible. Today's question is how adjustable is the suspension? I weigh abour 16st and want to wind it up so that it's bashplate doesnt drag all the time.

Does anybody know of a cross reference for the rear suspension bearings (2002 model) - or can you only get them from Montesa? Any other tips on overhauling the suspension?

I am considering fitting a V Mar linkage to the suspension on my 4 RT. Wonder if this has been found by those of you who have already done this to be a worth while upgrade. I do find that the suspension is a little soft. I am still running on the standard shock. If any one has any suggestions as to stiffening up the suspension a little I would be happy to here from them. Cheers Ali

Any suggestions on how front and rear sag/setup should be on a Repsol 4RT? I have the Jitsie linkage and rear set pegs. I was wondering if there was any standardized protocol like KTM's 'golden rule' for example. Thanks, Brad

Does anyone know who can advise on correct suspension settings for bike, i have tryed all sorts. Im 15 stone 11 at present and have an ohlins shock fitted with stiffer spring. I have recently been told not to have any sag on spring so have adjusted to take up slack. A bit springy now so slowed it down. Front forks i have played with and on montesa have 3 settings this just confuses me . I have 7.5 oil in not 5 as couldnt get enough cushioning (good feel) with making it too springy. I have therfore would the compression up but this makes it too hard and turning a problem so today reverted it softer and more springy, which has helped the tunring. What i want to know is …
