I dove into my winter maintenance today on my 05 4rt. I went to change the fork oil and noticed the spring leg was binding mid stroke. After I tore the fork down I found a small ridge from a dent in the lower slider. I know the proper course of action is to replace the slider. I’m not sure I can get the part. One online source says available in 2-3 days another says extended back order due to covid and no sort of timeframe. I’m in the US so it will likely me harder to find one. if I can’t get a replacement what are my options? I had the thought of using and exhaust pipe expander with hose clamps on the outside to support the leg to hopefully push the dent out en…

Hi all. I had a strange thing happen to my 4 ride (67reg) yesterday. I was just checking it over pre mot & It started 2nd kick like normal so I tested the horn & it cut out & won’t start now ! That’s never happened in the 3 yrs I’ve had it . Thinking it could be the kill switch so I disconnected it but still the same. I checked it for continuity which also seems fine. I can’t work out why the use of the horn has killed it unless there’s a short somewhere perhaps. I have ordered a new plug but don’t think it’s that. Any of you guys & girls out there got any ideas cos I’m baffled, with thanks ,Andy

I'm hoping someone here can give me a clue with regard to road registering my Mont but it's not been brought into the UK via Sandifords... This could mean there's a VAT problem waiting for me? I mean if the original importer brought it in and didn't pay the VAT, when I go to register it will I have to pick up the tab?

I have a 1975 Cota 247 model 21M Serial # 15746 . When I try to kickstart the engine if I enguage the kickstart and bump the engine to TDC and push the start lever down GENTLY the engine turns over and starts fine. However, If I push down on the kickstart lever with a little more force, the kickstarter seems to slip as if the clutch lever is pulled in and the engine does not turn over. It seems as if the clutch is not adjusted properly. I have disconnected the clutch lever and the problem does not change. Also, Is there an electronic ignition conversion for this bike? Are there any Trials Central Stickers?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thank you! Tony M.…

I have a Montesa Cota 311. This is the only trials bike I have ever ridden or even seen. There are no other trials bikes out here in Zimbabwe. I would like to know how this bike compares to modern machines. If I was to ride a modern bike would I be surprised? I find it difficult to keep the front wheel up and bounce/hop the front or rear wheel, but this is probably just me. Any comments would be useful. Thanks

I've just bought a Cota 348 which is in need of some love and tenderness. Most of it has come apart easily as it hadn't been too badly abused in the past. However the drive gear on the left hand side which engages with the clutch outer basket isn't budging. I have ground the arms of a 3 leg puller to fit and heated it until the metal has started to blue but it hasn't budged even a little bit. Now I'm begining to think that it isn't on a spline or woodruff key and it may be on a thread (well you never know). Any help or tips will be much appreciated. In addition is there anything to watch for when I split the cases?

Does anyone have a photo of exactly where the rubber cushions fit between the bashplate and bottom of the engine? I’ve tried to fit them like the best I can make out from the pictures in the manual, but whenever I put the bashplate on the small one seems to slip around. I normally pull it out so that I don’t lose it during a trial. Cheers

Hello everyone! we gave the carb a real good cleaning and she starts ok. But, she idles a little rough and as soon as we give her gas the engine makes a deep bogging sound then the RPMs pick up with throttle. We adjusted the pilot and idle screw and played with the settings to no avail. We also cleaned the exhaust. Any advice? Thanks, Adrien

Been poking around the Cota 247C (1978) and it would appear that this bike may originally of come with a red frame.... although the top coat is currently black. Now I do know that some manufacturers used some odd primers. Take SWM, they used blue primer for black frames (and maybe black for Pernod frames being Italian) so maybe Montesa could of used a red primer? Also, I sell cars for a living and sometimes the factory 'undercoats' are really quite strange compared to the top finish coat....bright whites under reds, yellows unders greens and blacks etc. Any ideas from the forum 'Montesti'...I read that in an early 70's test of an old 247 cheers

I recently purchased a 2000 Cota 315 in beautiful shape but not without a few (hopefully) minor issues. In the past I have owned a Cota 247 and an Ossa MAR but it has been 20+ years since I have had either of those. My plans are not to enter competition but just to enjoy having a Trials bike once again and to help keep my reflexes and coordination from going completely south as I get older. One of the things I noticed immediately when riding the 315 for the first time was that it didn
