I use this, helps with the poor shifting on my Beta. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_241275_langId_-1_categoryId_255219
  3. Hi , Yes, looking at the water pump part of the clutch casing it looks to have made tiny holes in the metal. if you turn it over you shold be able to see really small holes where the pressurised water has entered the gearbox. If these are not visible then the water is getting into the gearbox through another entry point (seal). I am pretty sure i can see the holes in the case. p.s. these are the best photos i have seen on here, its the only way to diagnose problems.
  4. After a 7AM inspection the Trial is CANCELLED. All roads leading to the venue are iced up and there is no chance of being able to park. I cant even get off the drive! Bloody snow!
  5. its hard to tell from the photos. look inside the case, the inside of the water pump as it were the other side where the water pump drives from. if you can see perforation here its a new case i'm afraid. I hav'nt done one for a while now but i think they came down in price, (
  6. let me get this right, you dont like the sport you compete in? you dont like watching better riders to pick up tips on lines ect? and that wasnt what i asked was it? what do you DO?
  7. paul w replied to skippy1234's topic in Beta
my 04 250 did the same, its either pilot jet too small (sorry cant remember the sizes) this will be worse this time of year due to the cold. (presuming you are in UK). But i also used to de coke (polish the piston crown and the head) frequently, this always stopped the Ping on my bike as it is usually pre ignition.
  8. Thedbf, you really are a numpty, he WANTS to get into trials, if that person goes and likes what he sees, he's gonna ride isnt he? I need to get out more? like where? come on lets here it, what do you like to watch? Judging by your normal comments, its going to be pro-celebrity night fishing, or the Vietmanese tiddly winks championship.
  9. Your kidding right? there are some fantastic skill levels in trials. you know what, i cant be bothered to finish this post. You could'nt be more wrong if you tried.

  13. it sounds like the main bearings, but you say there is damage to the piston? if bits have come off , they may be part of the problem in the bottom end. By the sounds of it its seized at some point. I does sound like a full engine strip.

Its a crying shame, every time a Beta breaks down the next post is about fantastic service from either the dealer or the importer, lets pin that to the top as well. Still, the factory should have sorted this out by now.

2010 EVO , same happened to me, just entering a section, stopped, new stator. borrowed a mates bike, swapped all the items until it ran with a different stator.
  16. its really difficult to diagnose carburation issues like this but i think your looking in the wrong area. If the majority of bikes the same as yours run on the "base settings" then so should yours. its bite the bullet time. First check the ignition timing, doubtfull but its easy to do. before going any further, re post and ask if there is some one willing to let you borrow a carb ( 10 mins anywhere should show up if there is an issue) Next remove the reed block, are the reeds sitting down? if not try turning them over to see if that makes a difference before replacing. make sure that when you replace the reed block it is in good condition and that its mating surface if clean and sealed (smear of silicon) Failing that, and if it was my bike, i would strip down the top end and inspect the piston, long shot i know but youve got to start somwhere. while the top is off check for big end and main bearing play. if ok i would still REPLACE the crank oils seals. new base gasket and rebuild the top end. its a 2 stroke, thats covered the basics, its not a complicated engine just annoying. let us know how you get on.
  17. I ride a Beta and therefore have loads of grip, would you like me to send you some?
  18. paul w replied to plumajp's topic in Sherco
all like that, dont worry, you will get the hang of changing gear stood on one leg. if you wanting to travel between sections set off in 3rd or 4th.
  19. now its not really the British way but, "we told you so" p.s. the next post had better not be " i went over that bars!"
  20. paul w replied to juzz80's topic in Sherco
no, the crank can be rebuilt. You will need for a bottom end rebuild; 2x crank seals 2x main bearings 1x rod kit various gaskets. depending on what the piston looks like and the state of the bore will determin if you need to do the top end as well, that would require; 1x piston kit (this will include rings and a gudgeon pin) 1x little end bearing. 1x base gasket. Gear oil Coolant possible a recoat of the bore (nicosil) parts approx
  21. paul w replied to juzz80's topic in Sherco
no play in the big end at all "up and down" there should be slight side to side movement. sounds like a full rebuild.

Hi Lee, i think your spellcheck's broken
  23. paul w replied to neale's topic in Beta
