  1. just to add confusion, i use this stuff, its a synthetic blend, whatever that is. i have used for years, and whenever i have stripped engines that have used this it leave a nice coating on all the surfaces. cheers paul http://www.feridax.com/product/0264571/3/3660/pj1_oils_632.html
  2. North south divide......its awesome.....if not a little bewildering. As my dad used to say "the south love themselves, and the north hate them for it". as for the original question, Acklams are in Harrogate, Beta dealer but stock other stuff as well.
  3. have you tried a Shoei? i had the same problem, bought one, great fit. (i use Shoei road helmets too, best fit.)

    Not picking up.

seriously, try to work out why the last owner was removing the exhaust, have a look at the barrel bolts/nut, do they look like they have been off recently? if so, it might be worth pulling the barrel off for a look. check the reeds, make sure they are sitting down. blow the carb out after removing the jets to make sure they are clean. seal the exhaust on (after fixing the thread) and try it again. check the ignition timing as well let us know how you get on. 131 now, and i bet were all thinking the same.
  6. i have not fitted boysens to my 10 evo or my 08 rev 3 but did to my 05 rev3. I have to say that with some careful setting up i have found the later bikes to be smooth off the bottom end anyway. did you notice your carburation was wrong as soon as you fitted the reeds, or has it got progressivly worse? only wondering because if its getting worse over time its probably not due to the reeds. Cheers Paul
  7. how many bikes have you been to see so far? and why didnt you buy that particular one? just wondering out loud really as i know someone similar, spent 8 months (all summer!) looking for a bike, got one cheap, and its cost a fortune to maintain. my advice would be to work out what you want, see what they are selling for and pay the going rate. at least you will be out riding instead of ebaying. cheers paul

  11. 7 front and 4 rear for a base setting, in dry rocky conditions i might go uo 1 psi, for mud down 2 at the most on the front and 1 on the rear. i ALWAYS practice on knackered rear tyres cos im from Yorkshire
  12. UK based you want a good quality off road type oil Putoline Castrol tts (good for everything) PJ1 try and buy from a motorcycle dealer.
  13. having bought a new EVO a few months ago i was shocked to find the the ABI (Association of British insures)dont recognise the EVO 250/290 two strokes. i eventually got theft only cover for £99, not what i really wanted as i do use on the road when practicing. things may change and i will look into the MSM policy that John has mentioned. I think maybe the importers of trials bikes need to put pressure on the ABI to get the bikes recognised. Paul Edit: ABI now emailed asking for answer
  14. Hmmmm......sometimes its the crap music that make it worth watching.....like F1
  15. a few years ago we used to have the same problem with KTM's in this kind of weather. Its down to "carb icing" , i have tried to google an explaination but the ones i have found are all model specific. Some models now have electically heated elements on the carbs.

    transporting evo

I have used the straps that fit over the grips on my track day bike, they work very well. I dont use them on my EVO though, i dont have a problem of the strap moving up the bar. can you move your tie down points in a bit, they sound to be too wide.
  17. none, why would there be?.....will have been maintained to a high standard.

    choke

sounds like the pilot jet is blocked, take the carb off, remove the float bowl and blow all the jets out, if possible remove all the jets for inspection. paul

    beta rev 3 250

theres no need to worry, there wont be a spark to ignite all the petrol, and even if there was all the water leaking form the case would put it out.
  22. if it was, i wouldnt have said, if it isnt, and was said in jest, i would retract. Be careful, very thin ice.

    Thick black oil !

it was bitterly cold today, if your filter was a bit damp it may have frozen and caused the bike to run rich, it may have also suffered 'carb iceing' (this is usually coupled with poor runing) ( i have experienced both on my KTM). We used to caustic soda pipes out a few years ago, but i havn't used on alloy, i would probably steer clear of this and run the bike up a road for a couple of miles, that should clear it out. wait till its a bit warmer though!
