  1. Hey no worries! Always enjoy introducing people to the sport of trials. I used to post more stuff on this forum under the Canadian section but have been a bit lazy lately :). I look forward to seeing you out at events and the offer is always open... if you want to borrow a bike we can usually get a demo from Honda / Beta / Sherco / and hopefully GG now that our GG dealer is starting to bring GG back under the new GG company. Cheers, Michael T.
  2. too bad Jim got kicked off this site but he does post on ADV rider in the trials section so you could try posting your question there.
  3. It was 4 years ago... but I think I still have it in the back of the barn someplace unfortunately the trailer belonged to somebody who doesn't ride anymore so I don't have it to measure. If I get out there this weekend I will measure the ramp to give you some idea of the size... I do remember it being pretty steep maybe around 45% ?
  4. The issue we had was we had to move everything between shows each day so the trailer was handy for that. The big ramp in front covered up the hitch. Here is a video of it in action...
  5. One year we used a larger dump trailer made a top for it and a big ramp on one end and a kicker ramp on the other plus a few options for hitting it from the sides...
  6. I have used trailers for indoor demo's before I took some inspiration from this video... for me it was more about how you get on and off the trailer than it is about what obstacles are on the trailer.
  7. AWESOME !!! Great to see such an amazing turnout. I had a great chat with Jordan when he was in Halifax last summer about growing the sport - you guys are obviously doing things right !!!
  8. According to dirt rider he got a 3 in section 10 for "dragging his foot" as I read it...http://www.dirtrider.com/smage-leaves-texas-with-us-mototrials-point-lead The caption above the video suggesting it was a 1 is hopefully wrong. A 3 would count for the right foot dab as well. I know crossing the tape is easy to see on the video but I could see how it may have been missed by the observers in the heat of the moment (given all the dabbing that was going on). Rolling back is also a tough call made much easier by video but when people are hoping around it is a fine line... kind of like stopping in no-stop trials. Wouldn't it be great if our sport got full TV coverage and the observers could request a video play back when things got tight... :).

You obviously haven't tried racing cars, off shore sailing or flying your own plane as hobbies or simply getting married for that matter - LOL
  10. Crossing ribbon (might have been hard to tell if there was space between tire and ribbon without the video as we are allowed to ride on the ribbon just not on the other side of it) or Rolling backwards with a foot down is a 5 according to our local rules. Moving the right foot around would be a 3. Left foot dab after right foot would be a 2. Typically we don't get video evidence, so it depends more on what the observer observes... and we depend heavily on the honor system as often riders know better than the observers... which actually works well at our local events but we are in Nova Scotia not exactly expert level riders.
  11. Might be best to PM Dave or send him an email... my guess is the video was on tape not on-line. BTW - Dave has a great blog that he updates daily - always a good read! http://www.outlawtrials.com/wordpress/
  12. I was wondering about that, I figured it was just rolling backward but would that mean it had a clutch that disengaged the motor. Do EM bikes roll backwards that easily when the clutch lever is pulled in?
  13. Not sure how many UK riders read the US On The Pegs magazine but in the latest edition they have started a new series of videos that could be a big help to all... the magazine can be found here: https://www.joomag.com/magazine/on-the-pegs-january-2017-volume-2-issue-1/0680952001482523943
  14. Direct injection 2 stroke looks like it could be a bit of a game changer ... see Guy's thread / video on the matter.

  16. This is a conversation between a man & his wife. Please note that she asks 5 or 6 questions which he answered quite simply, but then she is speechless after answering only one question. l bet this happens more often than not to most husbands out there; I'm just saying...... Critical Thinking At Its Best! Woman: Do you drink beer? Man: Yes Woman: How many beers a day? Man: Usually about 3 Woman: How much do you pay per beer? Man: $5.00 which includes a tip (This is where it gets scary !) Woman: And how long have you been drinking? Man: About 20 years, I suppose Woman: So a beer costs $5.00 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450.00. In one year, it would be approximately $5400.00 correct? Man: Correct Woman: If in 1 year you spend $5400.00, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at $108,000.00 correct? Man: Correct Woman: Do you know that if you didn't drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari? Man: Do you drink beer? Woman: No. Man: Where's your Ferrari?
  17. Great to hear a new voice on the matter and one with experience and numbers to share. I totally agree having the few remaining riders fighting over who is right or wrong isn't doing anybody any good. Anything anybody can do to grow the sport by getting new riders out is critically important. If your club already has its own insurance just start having events. Especially If you are in PEI or Nfld where there currently are not any events being held, if there is no provincial organization or club with insurance reach out to the WTC for coverage and start having events. We also need to figure out how to get those who want to ride at the world level up to that level and have the FIM backing to do so... that is a very small number of people (less than 10?) so we will need to be very creative in how we can support them without expecting every new rider to pony up for something that doesn't really matter that much to them. IMO if the sport can work together we should be able to provide something for everyone. We just need to keep chipping away at building something great.

  19. During a training session a few weeks ago I realized a great little practice for dumping the clutch to give a good zap... I was actually using it for doing splatters but find it can be fun for a lot of situations. Drive along in second gear at half throttle pull in the clutch all the way leaving the throttle at half throttle just coast along with the engine revving for a second or so then start your wheelie as you usually would bend knees compress fork on rebound the front wheel starts coming up then just let go of the clutch. If you use a kicker it helps your timing and with starting the wheelie and you get more lift. I never did get the double blip as my brain can't process 2 blips yet... but I felt this was a great start for getting used to the bike launching on command. Caution - near the end of the day I was getting tired so my brain was fading I figured I would try this new trick to hop over a 2X4 on edge in a grassy field I came rolling up on it then compressed the front wheel just before the 2X4 and when the front wheel rebounded I tossed my whole body forward and upward to hop over the little obstacle... only problem was I forgot to tell my clutch finger the plan so the bike stayed put and I pulled just about every muscle in my body all at once .
  20. I believe there is a need for both (a low cost option for those who just want to give it a try or have a more laid back experience AND a FIM internationally affiliated sport group) but the need should be explainable and the 2 should work together to improve the sport for everyone. I have been pushing this idea for years here in Canada as we also have 2 organizing bodies that always seem to be at odds and seem to lack communication skills. There are those that think if you got rid of the low cost option everyone would be forced to pour their support and $ into the FIM option and that level of support would drive great growth in the sport. My experience has been if you try to force people into doing something they don't want they just stay home.
  21. I suppose if you wanted to get really fancy you could use a self leveling camera mount to keep the light pointed in the right spot and dampen it so it doesn't bounce all over the place... a fun winter project.
  22. I think it is worth going with a helmet light if you are riding rough trails. Better to have the light pointed where you plan on going instead of where the bike headlight may be pointed, this especially noticeable when you wheelie it is great for lighting up the trees but I find it better to be able to see what you are actually headed for...
  23. are you saying the standard light is not powerful enough for night riding? - LOL I use 400W light to lighten up my backyard to practice this time of year.
