How much did they charge you for the new CDI??
-
What was that thing Yamaha did (I think) a good few years ago that was cleaner than a fourstroke? I think a jap team took it round the north pole or something like that.
Will be interesting to see if anything comes of it.
WM, what is a 'peeps' ??
-
-
Hey WM, sounds like you should have bought the Mont, no worries then mate
-
Difference of opinion here I'm afraid.
With only 800ml of oil in your motor and an engine which will get very hot I personally would be going for the best oil I could afford - ie fully synthetic. Run the bike in on mineral or semi synth oil then bite the bullet and buy the best quality you can afford.
Especially if you use the 30hour oil change suggestion.
Just an opinion !
A very good road racing mechanic told me that Fully synth oil was 'too good' for our low revving engines.
Glazing of the bore is a real problem, a top end strip down and honing of the bore will then have to follow...... don't fancy that hassle so I'd stick to my semi synth thank you very much
I think that modern multigrade oils are very good these days, I would guess you could probably get away with using Castrol GTX if you did stick to the four trials oils change rule.
each to there own I guess
-
On 4 stroke Yamaha MX bikes the guys I know change the oil every 2nd or 3rd meeting - ie after 2 - 3 hours maximum. On my TLR's I change the oil every 2nd or 3rd trial.
Both these bikes have a significantly larger oil capacity than the Sherco and both use a conventional oil pump.
For the little cost of 800ml of oil it may well be worth while considering changing the oil on a much more frequent interval?
MX and enduro bikes are a different kettle of fish, high revving for long periods....
Never go near fully synth oil either, good for road racing of your average R1, but no good for us real bike riders
-
With my 125 Scorpa, I changed the oil every fourth trial, a good semi synthetic oil.....overkill??..maybe but oil is cheap compared to a new top end!!.
I'd advise you guys to do the same.
-
Not much on ebay, great place to buy bikes, but not to sell em!...I reckon you'll be lucky to get
-
Just read the Steve Saunders test on the Sherco 4T in the YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE, he mentioned the old dreaded "pop and die" thing that has affected nearly every fourstroke trials bike (with a carb) that I've been on.
Do you get this with the Montesa, with it being fuel injection and all??
-
Very very nice, love the rear silencer, any info on the lump?? enduro based ?? specs?? if it goes as well as it looks it's sure to be a winner...just needs a better paint / graphics job and it will be just the ticket
-
Webmonkey, have you won the lotto ?? why would you want to change the carb at this early stage of you ownership?
-
Come on Perce, I thought you'd come back with something better than that
Nice one BS
webmonkey: east tiger, less of the lard a***, slaphead!! I can see some of Perce's sense of humor rubbing off on you if your not carefull
QUOTE HARRY ENFIELD: " I'm a Yorkshire man, I say what I like and I bloody well like what I say"
-
All we need now is PERCE to throw in some of his "wise" words and well have a full house (only joking slaphead!)
Fair play to you guys who do buy the first model of any machine, and I really do like the Sherco (waiting to have a go on Webmonkeys when it ain't broke down ).
RS is a Honda fan through and through, just as Ishy and co Sherco fans, it's a free country and all that.
I myself like the Hondas but the tech stuff is a bit OTT for me, so I can see me going for a Sherco, I just would like my investment to be sorted before I buy it...not alot to ask for when your spending 4K on anything.
The little niggles would be enough to put me off a machine.......not slagging it off, just my two cents....... we'll see what 06 brings before I blag the local TSB.
-
New footrests then BS? what happened to the old ones?? bent with the weight no doubt
-
The 200 is just what I'm after too, my SY is up for sale at my local dealers...trying to find a decent 200 is going to be the problems...plenty of 250's about.
I don't want to fall into the trap of buying a 250 when i want the 200
-
Well done Vinnie, that little change makes all the differance, how are you getting on with it now? and would you buy another one?
-
I might just do that Kinell, I take it it's one carefull owner
I'll keep my eye on it mate
-
Just looking into buying a pair myself, looking at a pair of Gaerne boots..any good??
I've currently got a pair of Forma, they have ripped open at the stitching and there not even 12 months old
-
Hi Stu, I had a 250 rev3 for a short while that I took in part ex for my 125 Scorpa, it was an 01 250...I quite got to like it in the three trials I did with the bike.
Quality was top notch, very impressed
Probably going for an 03 / 04, I guess an 05 is the one to really go for but the funds are tight at the moment
besides is an 05 any better than an 03 ???
-
James, not a bad price so I guess you won't lose too much in 12 months.
Never did no carb mods to mine and it ran fine, great little bike, nice and light too, used to be able to hop mine around all over the place (except in the sections when it counted )
Bottom gear for 95% of the riding.
-
Guys, how much of a problem is this then?...I've got my Scorpa up for sale and I'd like a 200 Rev3 or a 250.
I can recall the very early models being suss but then I thought they had fixed it, since then it seems I hear more and more about this fault.....more so on the 04 red and silver Betas??
Is there a "kit" Beta do to cure the fault ? and are the 05 models affected in anyway?.
I'm sure one bloke was saying his was the best part of
-
Its a knack for sure Ian, I've owned a few big fourbangers over the years and the worst I had was a XT500, once hot it could be a right pain.....never too keen on modern type auto de-commpressor either....I much prefer to do it by feel and a manual decomp.
My mate has an old Husaberg (spelling!) left hand kickstart and some really high compression..the thing was a real pig to start....hot or cold.
Keep at it mate, it will come when you get to know her a bit longer
-
& this slaphead never learns much either. Why put stupid, no brain comments?
Slaphead
"& this slaphead never learns much either. Why put stupid, no brain comments?"
Bit of a laugh PERCE, but mainly to get self righteous pricks like you wound up!
-
I would really like one of these bikes but from what I've read the bike is far from sorted...I hate to say it but if I'd payed 4k + I'd want it to run like a swiss watch.
The Honda/Mont effort does look like it's well finished off, the whole fuel injetion thing on that put's me off..I still think I'll end up with the Sherco but not for at least another 18 months...should give the factory time to get it fully sorted.
-
It's a normal sort of noise for a GG, in the end it explode into a thousand bits and you'll have to buy a new one ..clever marketing by GG I'd say
