Never really thought of the YAM bits being hard to find not too pricey either, the one I had all the bits were off the shelf no problem.
Not bad bike's
-
I can recall Laverda Jota Road bikes use to have the same problem with there barrels too.
Don't for get to give us a go Ian when you've run it in

So I guess this guy is going to ride this under a twin shock banner then? whats all that about then eh?....kinda makes me laugh when you guys buy bikes to complete in "twinshock trials" and then do your upmost to turn the thing into a modern bike barring two springs on the rear
Not really the spirit of things is it?
-
Sorry dude, but thats just BS! I guess you havn't seen the local youth riders charging around on there 125's on the hard route then have you?
I watch young ross danby ride his 125 GG and he makes all the experts look silly..even in national's these little bike scan cut it (125 Scorpa aside)
Bigger ain't always better,
try one and you'll see.
-
Is that pic when it was brand new BA? I'm sure i can see the little rubber spikes on the tyres?
Seem to recall them bikes being as powerfull as hell!! my mate had the model before yours and that was scary!
-
Can't be a***d to type all mine down...last count road bikes was bout 75 give or take a couple...... big / small / brit / italian.....and trials bikes approx 15.
All 1979 to present day
-
Spoke to my local dealer today, you can go either way with the back sprocket, so I've gone for a 36T rear...I'll let you know how it feels
-
Very tidy bike there T/S, fair play mate, you know how to make a bike look good
-
Having to drop the lump to do a rountine check is a bit crap in my eyes.....How does the Montesa fair in this dept...anyone had to work on one yet???
-
Q/A throttle fitted as std, I'll try giving her a bit more then...probably me getting used to the 125 tall gearing then having to go to conventional gearing (the gearing was very tall on the little Scorpa)
-
Where all this stems from guys was owning my old SY125, I only ever used bottom gear on that for 90% of the sections.
That bike was just made for streams, as RS says, bottom gear gave me the time to look where I was going and pick the best line.
I rode the same sections this year on my SY250 and I rode like a pratt...I did much better on my little scorpa last year....I tried bottom on my 250 and it felt too slow...second felt too fast...maybe I should buy another 125!!..only joking.
But genrally I feel a tooth off the back would do the trick (mines the std 38T) would I have to have this made up special or can I buy it off the shelf?
-
Seemed to recall the days gone by of my road bikes....... the old brit bike vs the jap bike thing in the 70's...all very sad.
In the end to avoid a fracas I just jacked the trial in and went home
I was going to complain the the club that was running the event (TMX didn't state pre65 only) but I thought what's the point?.
Never mind, all water under the bridge and all......
-
Whats the std rear sprocket for a 2002 SY 250 (rear) I could do with a tooth off mine as I feel bottom gear does not do much?
-
-
Dodgy ground this, I have felt the rath of a couple of guys who were riding Pre65's when I entered an aircooled mono by mistake in a sammy miller event,, even though I was riding out of the results they went on and on like a couple of bitch's.
Seems funny to me when most of the bikes there are full of modern mods to the suspension and engine dept.
Generally a good bunch but can be ruined by a few bitter old men..tread carefully my friend
-
Bloody hell !! looks like the guys riding up a landslide??
-
Bought my SY with a split mid box (it had split in the exact same place as the pic before!!), mine was starting to go around the outlet neck too..... had it all welded up...never thought it was down to the missfiring though........valid point I guess.
Mine does it now and again, if it does not go second kick it will normally back fire...my guess is unburnt petrol getting in the exhaust system whilst trying to kick it up.
Not too much of a problem at the moment though.
-
Great trials there Gaz, sorry I couldn't make it for todays bash....how was it mate?
Did you see the guy riding round watching the trial on tha mint 400/4 Honda road bike?
I'm sure I wouldn't have wanted to get it dirty if it were mine!
Cracking trial anyway, what was the final count for Sunday...I heard about 140 to 150 riders
-
Saw one at a trial yesterday Big John, dont' ask me what model it was...it looked big to me!
Seemed quite a handfull to ride on the tighter sections?
Lovely sound though
Nice to see the old stuff being ridden though
-
Come to think of it RS they did have a southern accent
Woody, I seem to recall the barrels on the Ossa having wide fins, didn't get much time to gawp as they were off on to the next section.
I think there was a chap on a new Mont 4rt with them too, he said he normally rides Pre65..couldn't belive how light the 4rt felt compared to his brit bike.
Bet they had never seem so much of Wales before the trial was Bikespace's club....1 single lap of 40 sections in a 5000 acre forest..brill stuff.
-
I was marking a board at the local mid wales trial yesterday and after seeing what must have been a million Gas Gas's come through and couple of guys on twin shocks came through...one was a Ossa with some very trick looking yokes, billet type alloy jobs, looked like the Scorpa ones...all in all a very sweet sounding and good looking bike.
The next was a TL125 which again sounded very sweet, that had a very nice alloy tank sprayed blue and silver, both bikes really took my eye!.
My point being now I can see why these boys must spend what must be a huge amount of money on old bikes.....there was more folk looking at these bikes than all of the rest put togethor, it was great to see these bikes still being used hard in the sections like they should be
Keep it up lads
-
I had the cheaper one of the two and it was a cracking little bike, in fairness the extra cost isn't worth it in my eye's, the suspension and brakes on mine were fine..My advice would be go for the cheaper version
-
I'll keep that in mind RS, let me know if any come your way
