Be interesting to see the set of photos of this modification... The internals of the oem muffler are such that it would be impossible to cut a window/hatch out of one side to repack the whole thing as its constructed like a big sandwich. There is no internal pipe with perforations with packing wrapped around it. Its got the exterior walls with two layers of perforated thin aluminum sheet that is stamped to have a passage for exhaust to pass down the middle with packing on both sides...and then welded together with the tail pipe bung on the end. ..one other option for you, Ya might want to look into adapting a silencer from a small mx bike that is repackable in place of the original? or one from an older GG?
-
The silencer was very dented in on my Sons bike, I cut it open along top and bottom seams and 2/3 across front from tail pipe. straightened out, did partial repack and tig welded back together and is much better looking & sounding. If your gonna open it up, I suggest you take the extra time and effort to open it completely and clean it out fully as the remaining sludge and oil will get hot and ''gas'' on you and can make welding up a pain.

Or as previously asked, double check to make absolute sure you have reassembled the carb correctly. Good luck
-
Sounds like your carb fuel inlet valve, aka: needle/seat is either sticking closed or plugged
-
you must have seen these factory specs in this forum..
-
Hmm, what color do you like best?
-
I am thinking a tickover speed down below 1200 is kinda low, especially for not having any form of accelerator pump on the carb. Not sure about your bbq sound...double check your carb fitment to the manifold? Seen on several occasions were motor had ''puffed''....it off the boot and still run...just not well, make sure your rubber block off plugs on carb are still on??

Hi, you should do a search in this sherco forum as there is much pertinent info already here that should help you sort your bikes issues. Not touching on your bikes condition/wear & tear, jetting changes from stock, possibly previous owner made timing changes, etc....this model uses a fuel pump with some funky fuel hose/pressure pulse hoses that can be problematic and I believe this model might have the problematic inlet manifold that leaks. Good luck and hope you get her sorted soon

If you do decide to purchase an OKO, be very careful were you purchase it. The OKO is a copy of the Keihin PWK and it is a pretty good copy and price is Great. The problem is there are copies of the OKO which will just frustrate you with tuning problems and poor quality , the packaging is pretty much identical to the original.....OKO's. Roger at mid atlantic trials has a great website with much good info on originals and imposters and he is great to deal with for ordering stuff from. Best of luck

If I remember correctly...the only difference between the newer model shock is the..upper eye width is slightly wider. I have an Ohlins on one bike and a TRP on the other, both excellent shocks.
-
Not uncommon to find a tiny crack in O-ring groove at back of cylinder head on earlier machines...swing arm can impact pipe on full travel and force is directed to bracket and rear head brace Best of luck sorting
-
Is the transmission breather vent open and operational??
-
Will the rear wheel turn freely without resistance while in neutral..?
-
Spark arrestors are required here in Canada now and if one wants to ride without getting a hefty $$ fine you need to comply..
-
Hey anachronism, I got the regular viper and the screen is removable, I did not install it on a Vertigo but I think it has a similar curved aluminum muffler exit as my older Sherco. It probably was not necessary but I did a slight trim on my pipe tip to square it up so the arrestor would slide on fully and once grub screw is tightened it is nice and solid.
-
Never had a problem with mine being noisey ..
-
They are made by Goldfren and they call them ''metal/ceramic''. Have been working fine with no issues here.
-
If you decide to use the motor oil..Dont use automotive motor oil as it has friction modifiers etc added, needs to be wet clutch specific motorcycle grade, MA, MA2.
-
Looks like your fuel valve is off in pic, down is on. https://www.lewisportusa.com/manuals/09sherco/2009_2T_owners.pdf Bike looks to like its in nice shape from pic
-
I am not trying to be a smart ass here by asking this and please dont take this the wrong way,.. have you been mixing oil with your fuel?
-
You have already tried a new spark plug?...
-
Ordered and received a Spanishfly arrestor directly from his website and also the one of the models that Lewisport sells and can say that they are both Very nice high quality units.
-
Great write up and pics of the new shield I wonder if the stainless clamps could be fastened to the backside of the shield with a few short rivets on each and still secure effectively...and then silicone wrap between clamp and pipe??
-
Interesting info, Thanks betablocker. Sprinter , if you have not already, you might want to check with Dave at mototrialswest, good guy to deal with and local.
-
Did not imply that you personally are gonna make.....silly hacky homemade crap''... I am sure some people will try to get by with some chicken wire and a band clamp....and this will eventually bring the hammer and costs down on us even more
