    Harley

Q: Why can't Harleys go faster than 55mph? A: 'Cause if the could the rider would get beaten to death by the tassles on the end of his handlebar.

  4. You have spare time outside this website, galavanting around the world and work?
  5. Yup been there. Large industrial puller, gas flame and someone who doesn't care very much for life.
  6. Found out why..each page is loading at least 8 times. Must be play havoc with the bandwidth. (thnks..must install firefox).
  7. It made me feel inadequate as a father
  8. Atom, Waddaya mean by "dominate"? I know they have the widest selection of specialized models, they aren't ashamed to ask the highest retail prices for said models, and the people who buy them would "never buy one of them Jap bikes", but where do you get "dominate"? Ya been hangin' around Ringo and drinkin' his orange Kool-aid? KTM's current push is into the tourer/ sports tourer market (e.g. the big v-twin enduro bike) because that's where the numbers are. This is from a friend who used to be a KTM agent. Developing a trials bike would be completely counter this philosophy.
  9. Oooh! That's fightin' talk..
  10. That explains the dimishing involvement in the band. Congrats Ian.
  11. fanx Lloyd. It now adorns my PC at work.
  12. Anyone know where I can find a decent wallpaper of the 06 Raga rep? Seems the local importer might have one earmarked for me!
  13. A sad loss. Jim could have been US champ if he'd stayed in the US or world champ if he'd had a more competitive bike. Another one of my minor heroes passes. RIP Jim.
  14. this takes up a lot more disk space than mp3 files but is of course of vastly superior quality. Depends on your definition of quality. MP3 is a lossy algorithm and that loss is achieved by reducing the bandwidth. Normal music files (.wav) have an upper frequency limit of 20kHz whereas mp3's upper limit varies on the level of compression. Personally I stopped hearing 20khz when I was about 3 months old and I reckon my upper limit is now about 12 kHz so I don't give a stuff about loss of bandwidth. Nyquist rules.
  15. Touche! That's what I was thinking..
  16. A few months ago cycle world ran a test of the new scorpas and Paul Dean (who used to ride trials in the seventies) added his observations of the sport over the last 30 years. Has anyone got a copy and if so is it possible to scan it in and send it to me? Much appreciated TFT
  17. Not "just" massaging the ego atom. Bit like looking for a new challange. I agree it's a hoot to ride yr first enduro and finish right up in the results. But moving up further takes muchos effort. Rabie, it don't take long for a trials rider to fathom riding flat box across a field. Whooped out field maybe. The hardest bit (in my experience) was learning that a spinning rear wheel ain't neccesarily a bad thing.
  18. I've been thinking about this over the last day. When a trials rider turns 25, he (she) has generally been competing for about 10 years. At that point it's dawned on him or her that they're about as good as they're ever going to get and enduros looks like a bit of fun. They also (if not married) have a bit of spare cash so it's off to the local shop to buy an enduro bike. Lo and behold, trials riders make good enduro riders so they start pulling in some good results. The wheels fall of when the kids come along 'cause enduros is (as mentioned) really expensive. So it's back to trials. I had an absolute razzle in enduros and, if I could afford it, would do both. But I reached a point in enduros where I was SCARED! And I mean really scared. To get from regular 4th/5th places in fields of up to 200 to 1st you had to leave your brain in the toolbox. This I couldn't do. Believe me, 100km/h 30cm from a barbed wire fence sharpens your mind.
  19. It's fairly common for a 25 yr old'ish trials rider to go to enduros for 10 yrs or so. Then they come back to trials. It's nothing new.
  20. 20 hrs??? That's a 3hr job for a decent mechanic. BTW Neon, you gave the game away there. C++, the choice of geeks worldwide!
