Forget about all that race sag stuff. How much do you weigh? Unless you are over 100 kilos, the standard springs should be fine.
Use the STATIC SAG(weight of bike only) method and set the bike (spring preload) between 0 and 30mm dependant upon your weight of 100-70kilos .
I think this is a better guideline.
Sherco does not seem to sell heavy springs, one must have them made to order by a spring supplier. Thus, unless you are running a custom shocker like an Ohlins or TRP, I have not seen any heavy springs offered of late. Yet there may be some dealers or importers that have had a batch made up.
Fact is, even much heavier riders get along well on the stock springs in most cases.

I would tend to agree with this statment. Seems Beta had a rash of this with the Magnesium cases, thought they had reverted back to the Ali cases as replacements for greater resistance in the last few years, not sure if they and when they did in production...
The PH tip is real, yet question is what would pitch it off? Preferred method of adjusting this small quantity of fluid? Other theory being purely electrolosis(queer electrons).
-
Sounds as though Ohlins may have a spring problem! Think I might put the stocker back on untill this is corrected.
-
I think I understand what he is getting at. Wanto to upgrade the bike yet stay with his original VIN!
Answer: No. Not practical.
Things did not change much till '06, find a good later model if you need, otherwise the '02 still works fine in most cases.

If everything Jon says is true, it may work, but you gotta try it !
Jon, I really do need a week off work! I could arrange things for you to come down and help out in my absence. Within that period, you should be totally exposed, ready to kill someone you have never met, ready for a vacation due to tech overload, go back home and become a Luddite!
-
Did you drill it out, or beat it out?
-
Hi Jon, is this another example of (what time is it)( how to build a watch) mode!
Do you need more coffee? ( I here he got a new bike soo he is all pumped.)

If I had to guess, I would say the decision was rightly made by Kip to put the team in the intermediate class where we would both survive and also be good contenders for a podium spot! The contenders in the top class are mainly composed of top class WTC riders of which we have no equal.
I must admit that I was a bit sorry for them in that they did fall just short of a podium spot. Yet at the same time, there is Nothing in this that says EASY! These are the top teams in the world! Go get yourself some of that! In those conditions!
Oh well, good job to them! Keep it up!

Well let me see here, Mike. There is a website at NTXTRIALS.com, yet a quick check showed it is not totally up to date. I will try to email you the address of the current NTTA newsletter editor to ask to be added to the email list. The editor may change soon, not sure.
I am sure the Bridgeport guys would like having you out to practice, good bunch, and will give you a workout! Eddy K. is the kingpin of this group, great guy. They are there almost any Sat. as I understand.
To get to Lake Bridgeport(Twin Hills Ranch) looks like you gotta go north on 287 then 380 or take old 114 to Bridgeport. Just a block or two west of the intersection of 380 and 114, there is a FM 1658 you got to take NW (right) and follow around till you cross the spillway(about 5 mi) then the road will turn into Main St in Lake Bridgeport. Go down till tou see the Convenience Store on the right, you gotta stop there and pay. The gate is accross the road and they will give you the combo.
I think there is about 750 acres there to ride. Good stuff in there too!
Still not sure your current contact, but you can email me any time as well, me(copemech) at verizon.net.
Cheers,
I need some cool weather too!
-
Uhm, No! But I do enjoy a good melon toss!

Ok Clive, take this r-e-a-l s-l-o-w! MU mcan mail me(copemech) mat(@) Verizon mdot mfriggin mnet!!!!!
Try it!

Here is the link, you can join up !!!!
You are not too far from the Lake Brigeport riding area. Usually folks out there on Saturdays! Have you met anyone else round here to ride with?

The Boyesen guidelines will tell you that the motor may run a bit on the rich side, if anything.. Typacally this is not that drastic, and not lot of change is needed on a trials bike. Adjust your fuel screw for best running, and if anything, drop the main jet a bit if it is lumpy on the top and will not clean out well.

Yep, on the '01 model with ducati ignition as I recall there is a 2mm or so alignment pin hole that fits through the rotor and into the stator., then ch the marks on the case and rotor.
They were set fairly advanced(aggressive) and many ewre set back, yet setting back too far is not good. No more than about 6mm on the plate would be about right, which could tranlate to 8mm or so on the outer edge of the rotor. More common would be in the middle of that range or back to the factory marks..

Welcome! Where are you located? Texas is a big place!

So even on a fun day out for training and practice, you must practice against the rules! It is not only the course, but the rules that you are scored by. If you are indeed just having fun, then totally disreguard the punchcard and have fun to your limit. If you are still playing within the practice game, one cannot or shouldnot just decide to ride the upper line. Attend to your class line and do what you are supposed to do. Then you can go back to the observer, tell you want to practice the harder line, then OK, you have ridden your intended line and can goof off if no others in wait.
Either attend to the training schedule of the day properly or toss your card and have fun, no complaints, and do not expect others playing a game under (real) limitations to the trial. It may be easy, yet the pressure increases to stay clean as things progress. If this was in a real trial, sounds to me you would be busted!
If you violated the format of the practice, too bad!

These components have a hard anodized finish on the ali. One cannot just polish a spot out as there is no stopping point. Stripping and polishing the entire thing is a massive job, even if the scratches are not too deep to be unrepairable. Not recomended, yet it has been done. May be more work than the bike is worth, but if you want a show machine? Otherwise, find more stickers!
-
I would agree with this, sweet bike! Love you long time!
-
Great Clive, Send Kip a quickie if you are out of pocket to send to me @verizon.net and I will try to keep up with updates posted here if needed!
Cheers,
MC

They both looked ripe enough to me!

Might try Mike at the Tryals Shop in US. He may have some bits to spare. Send him an email. Same for Ryan at RYP, as I am not sure how much of the old rotax stock moved with the importer. Paul at Hellteam AU may have something as well.
The motors were solid. I had a 98 model. A fresh piston is probably due(along with ring)!
-
Only the recent years(racing)version of the SY had the light weitht flywheel here as I recall. Seemed similar to my sherco at the time(few years back) yet I doubt one would get the same feel really unless on a weighted Beta or such. All take some adjustment, unfortunatly Sherco do not offer a weight! Oh well!
-
A look back on this thread and something just struck me! I do not believe the 2000 model incorporated the clutch hub with the dampening units and rivets and such.
This basically means everything in the primary drive is fixed, and you either got a good (quiet) set of gears of you did not!
The new clutch packs interchange directly, and you could try one off another bike. Exactly how much the dampened hub in itself will change noise issues i could not tell.
-
I would doubt the timing is off, personally, I would make the change to a 36 pilot jet and ck the results. You will need to bring fuel screw in a bit(maybe a turn) to achieve best running. Main jet should be ok i would think. Mind, this is soo difficult to tell due to fuel variences. What you get there is just different it seems, yet others there seem to have had good results based upon general feedback.
At least you have a good idea where you are at on the jets. Write it down!
