  1. Irecieved a set of the Mitas a couple years back that were donated for a youth event. They seemed hard as a rock to me, and would not even consider putting them on a mod bike for a decent rider, yet for the kids or vintage riders they may still work fine. The V-Rubbers are supple and I think they would work much better in most conditions, nothing wrong with the IRC though. One would need to do a direct comparison I would guess.
  2. As the bikes have progressed, are things better? In this decade? Scorpa- when was it the old Yamaha motor took over to create the SY ? '01? Seems now they have a REAL upgrade with the Sherco Motor! Good bike though. Montesa- Went to the 4T in '05 , from the bulletproof 2T. Progress is still at a halt it seems. GasGas- Went to the Pro in '02, I think it works now, but they keep changing it! Ultimate lightness? Old ones are still working! Beta- New Rev, New Evo, New 4T's ! All seem to work well. Sherco- From step 1 good, the '01 solid but revamp in '06, but total revamp in '10, solid motor the same. Just works. Ossa- Who knows? Will it really make you a better rider?
  3. Oh yes, there is the old piccie! You can read down the thread, but basically, you can set it back about 3mm for a mid setting, or 6mm for a slow setting. And I would not recommend slowing beyond that point. Mine is currently at the -3mm setting, and will still chug along quite well, yet has decent response.

    Clutch Drag

Yea, well, if you leave the things set, that happens, called stuck! As the plates are stuck together by the surface friction of the oil and such. A dragging effect after normal release can be the effect of warped plates, and has the bike wanting to creep a lot, even with the clutch fully applied. This may require new plates to correct. A stuck one does not creep at all, as it is directly engaged, and will take you where you point it!
  5. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

    Sherco 320

Might have something to do with the new carb, but ? In a way, seems one can only tame a big bore soo much, and I do kind of relate it all to my two 4T's setting here, the quad 250 and the 225 Yam, as they can have a certain come on with the power even with the CV carbs that may be less desireable than the setup youare running.
  7. Bob, that is a good question, as it seems the 4T does share a common sump with bthe gearbox and motor. The -2 spring setup is just different and you would have to try it. I can still get a good "pop" out of the clutch running the thin ATF, but I just do not know if the 4T can run on that. One thought is to tru the lighter oils such as 5-30 or 5-20 and see how it feels. May not withstand a WOT dump of the clutch without some slippage, but then again, how often do you do that? Even some slippage seems to be ok on these things, just do not want to over do it. As the pro's can sit there and slip it all day, creating great heat in the fluid and clutches without problems, put your usage into perspective. The only other thing I can say is that the -2 setup can seem a bit floaty at times, but takes some adjustment, all a tradeoff!!!
  8. It is probably true, as they may be the only ones who speak english!
  9. There should be a small mark on the top edge of the stator plate that aligns with the top right edge of the top screw casting boss. About 6-8mm right of the top screw center.

    Sherco 320

It is a 4T 320! Can you spell T-O-R-Q-U-E! Gentile in the low end though, and very linear.
  11. Not quite sure about the integration of the pump thingie into the tank! Hope it is resistant to alcohol and replaceable. There must me a tank vent tube in there somewhere? All being what it is, is still easier to deal with than a screwed up injection system!

    New Scorpa Range

No, that is an option alond with the long ride kit! Maybe they will offer a heavy flywheel conversion? Damn things look good with a real motor in them! Quite a nice setup! Add versitle!

    New Ossa

I wish I had pics of that thing now! If I do, they are likely on some 35mm slides stuck up in the attic somewhere. I actually had two of them, one a parts bike basically.

    Fork Problems

All I can tell you without being there is I run the damper screw at 3 clicke in from all the way out. Not a lot of damping, just some. I would guess the static sag(weight of bike only) to drop the front about 1 inch, and same for the rear, although I have had to tweak it up a couple of times.
  15. Always thinking ahead, I am already working on a "special" carb for the Ossa! This will be a small, inexpensive unit based upon the WALBRO carb (weed wacker), you know ,those things that only run for one year! Easily mounted to the bike, it really does not do anything. Simply gives you something to fettle with other than your nuts!
  16. As i constantly develop refinements : The ones set for converted montesa riders will not idle below 2000 rpm, and if you try it will pitch you on your head! The Beta adapter allowes the carb to spontainiously p*** on your feet! And the Gasgas version has a spring loaded mount, which allowes it to completely fall off when you least expect it!
  17. Good job on Mike for those trophies! He is such a skilled fellow, and a really nice guy too! Well done!
  18. That is such an excellellent short story Martin, and I think very complentary. One thing that does come to mind might be the availability of rental bikes(or lack of) for those that might want to cross the pond for the event. Seems they did offer a very respectable deal for the week on a new and reliable bike. This could be lost now, and I hate to see that. All said, something tells me we have not seen the last of Sandifords, or Martin, as they are great folks it seems, and I do hope this dedication shall not be lost. Cheers to you, Martin!
  19. This totally new and revolutionary carb is based upon the popular Kiehin platform using a (cheap) OKO instead and incorporate a totally unique elliptical oval bore design exclusively for trials! It will offer a smooth low end, totally responsive and controllable, low end starting off with the 24mm bore and throttle crecent, and gradually transfer power into the larger bore diameter equal in size to to the great 30mm on the top end power and large bore diamiter! A bit of my own special rigging will incorporate TWO bowl vents, come hell or high water! When combined with the special progressive throttle tube, this thing will go from mild to wild in a twist if the wrist, so hang on! I will accept all deposits, expect delivery sometime next year if you are lucky, cause I do have other things to do.

    New Ossa

Maybe Dad and me would hit it off, based upon the response, quite similar. Does he also refer to you as a ducky smart a--e? The other thing that struck my senile mind today was the clutch cover on these things, very Gasser in a pusher type diaphram, then two and two also came together ! Fact is, I do believe that gassers patent rights may have expired! But good on them anyway, as it seems that after a few years they did finally get them to work well!
  21. Things do have to move, you know. But those little bits of clearance do stack up and are multiplied by the lever arm length of the swingarm.
  22. Well, that is indeed an interisting uptake on this topic! From one who has actually done it! Was always tempting, now even more so!
