  1. Good offer there from Dabster! I would take him up on it! He says its as good as the Ohlins on the gasser was. Looks like ****e, but works! Bet you could get a heavy spring to plush it too!
  2. There are three basic lengths of AJP levers, short , med and long. Conversley, the "shortie" levers have the longest arm to the "sweet spot" on the lever and operate more slowly. Adjust so things start happening just off the fingers, and keep index finger on most all times, and at something like a natural tilt when standing on the bike and just resting your hands. The factory spec is 10-40 oil, and they come with the surelex plates.

  4. My experience is VAST! Which makes me an expert at NOTHING! Rust BAD! Water causes Rust! Once pitted, bearings deterioriate quickly! You better figure out the water source! Could be fuel(ethanol related), could be short runs and condensation to a point, as you need to get some heat in the motor. Could be your maintenance regime(not to be accuseatory) but I hear self denials all the time.(I pulled out early?) Reports indicate that the pure synthetic oils may not offer as good static runoff protection as others? Maybe the Yamalube 2R semi synth will help? Those sealed bearings may be the ticket? But I have run these bikes since '01, trading up every couple of years on average, and never had that problem on any of them. Including the wifes 125, which I had from '02- '07 . And yes, I figured out early on just what a good washing can do as you least suspect the water from a simple hose carrying the grit through the filter and sticking the throttle wide open on a 2.9. It can get your attention just after the first josstle that dumps all the crud straight to the carb slide! As I am way too lazy to take the things apart for the hellovit, unlike some ratchetheads, I suppose I have them on the '07? I have never had to disassemble one ov the beasts for anything. Yes they are pretty straightforward and I do much worse on a daily basis, but cross fingers! I figure the sustainability factor is quite high on these machines. Just as Jon still runs the '02 Gasser. And that's all I can tell you about that!
  5. Sounds like the Olle is a junker, the TRP should be just fine with the heavy spring, but it only costs a bit more to go first class with the Ohlins set for you! Not much choice now, just dive in! Either way you will probably wish you had done it before!
  6. As mine has no mesh on the mudguard, I do run a fiberglass reinforced screen (window) mesh glued to the air filter retainer. Definately keeps the large crap out of the filter, and seems to aid as a water repellant as well.

  9. Clav, I think I follow most ov what you are saying here. Some of the things you describe, I may experience with the Dellorto on the stock '07 while running the Boyesens. My thinking is that the sensivity ov the low speed valves of the Boyesens just seem to allow carb fluxuation to become more pronounced. The stock reeds just simply are not responsive enough to allow that to happen on the lower end of the spectrum. And even though the Kiehin is a good mixer, it is not a total godsend, and touchey! As the better hit from the stockers(reeds) is more welcomed by some, I have considered doing some re-tuning myself. Stock reeds, stack another base gasket to slow things?

There are a number of mods and factory solutions to prevent water entry to the airbox, however, it is not a submarine! 1- Factory provided plastic shield in frint of airbox. 2- Factory provided flap over shocker. tips In a wet event-- seal with RTV the area between frame and airbox. Run a strip ov duct tape along the side of the airbox to mudguard junction. Make a drip flap of duct tape just aft of the airbox / mudguard junction as a deflector for water off the tire. Cover holes in skidplate with tape too. Cover area between rad and exhaust. If this arrangement will get through the Scottish, it should work for you! If you flood that, well you might drown!

  13. You should probably do the frictions too. And run the synthetic ATF such as mobile 1, Merc or Allison spec . I am not a Beta expert, yet same principals apply! Then you can also look at some refinements as per Dan Williams on another recent post. Hope that helps!

    Whew!!!! There for a minute I thought we were going to hear how Ringmaster tought hem everything he knows! Try not to subvert the kid too much, he is doing fine without a Montesa!
  15. Wayne, I kinda figured there might be some jetting adjustments there with the changes. I had seen some of the carbs at the WR, but I am not sure who is doing the mods, maybe Paxau? The stocker was really good on your bike, as in my brief ride, most of the time I was just testing to get it to fail, which really did not happen with only one exception, I stalled it. If the new one is even better, that just gives me further reason to say that I do not need FI on the bike. And as long as this can be done, I support it, as it is basically bullettproof simplicity at it's best. And from a purist standpoint, that is the way to go. I shall not go into the point that simplistic reliable performance is what Sherco's are all about. You see, I always get these weird notions like "Where is this bike going to be in 5 or 10 years? Can you afford to maintain it? Will a fuel pump cost more than the bike is worth? Just thoughts!

  18. I do think there are pros and cons about the rider safety courses. You see, kids in many instances do not listen to dad! Dad may be a novice too! Trying to take up a healthy activity with the kids is a good thing, but how much does dad really know? All this from the simple perspective ov witnessing a number of fatal and near fatal incidents over the years, mostly caused by inexperienced idiots ! And many of them young wild kids! If the kids want to go crash their brains out on a MX track, then so be it! But on the common trails and areas used by many, it is very unsafe to act foolishly! And this does extend to pit areas! You can act like an idiot all you like, jusst do not endanger others unneccessarily!
  19. Young Whippersnappers! But yea, most that old stuff does'nt really work too well. Heavy, no brakes, clutches suck, etc! I happen to Like long dabs, though! Suits my style, which is not really that modern hop and splatter stuff, more dab and drag!
  20. Seems like even when the high profile participants speak out, nothing is done! This example just p****s me off worse! No old bike for me, they can shove it! Mind you, I would love to compete on a bike from my early days, but not with their rules, it does just seem to be an old fart meeting, not a trials! That is fine, yet time moves on and they are behind the curve.
  21. Not s...ure what you are doing, but two things are for sure. You do not store them after a muddy trial without cleaning them and inspecting/protecting the airbox. You do not wash them without protecting/cleaning the airbox and filter.
