Welcome,
Now get out and ride! You might find yourself on a more modern bike sooner than you think!
-
If yours is an '06, the forks are totally different!
Even on the '05 and back, the 350cc spec is for a dry fork at overhaul. 330cc is more better on a drain and fill as you really do not get it all out!
RL never keeps a bike long enough to change the fork oil! He just sells them to some poor mexican to let them do it!(Like THAT is gonna happen)
-
Lewisport has someone that will rebuild one, but I would consider the'07 shock or a $750 ohlins before I spent much on it!
-
Now that is interesting!
Di d you bore through the bearing shells so the grease can get inside them?

I could go on about this for hours but it it too late tonight, none of the old school methods cleared out blocked EGR passages and still will not!
My experience leads me to believe that this Techron stuff will tend to break down just about any fuel residue or carbon that it comes in contact with over time. That includes the exhaust pipe and muffler in a 2T, as there is a fair amount of unburned stuff going downstream. The point here being to keep things flowing! That is the theory, anyway!
Although the added 2T OILS CAN BE A CHALLENGE, I can say that headpipe removal and inspection after running the Maxima K2 all year is good! Next to no hard carbon on the piston and first part of the header pipe, a bit of buildup further down and into the muff front section, but not bad. Ant that is where some of these things plug up completely as things go.
And yes, more about the specific concentration of this stuff than anything. A large dose, as in the Mopar combustion chamber cleaner can have massive effects! A small dose, such as what comes mixed in their fuel, may have little effect aginst the 2T oils residue which it was not designed to compete with, but a bit more, which would keep things in motion, mat just do the trick!
The label on the bottle does say "Not recommended for air cooled two cycle engines!" Now I am worried about my seals!

There have been several posts on this in the past and I have made inquries but have not done them yet. My '07 is probably due after riding all year, yet I procrastinate.
Firstly, the quantities listed are supposedly correct at 385cc left, and 370cc right. The problem is getting all the old oil out!
These measures should yield you a oil level measurement from top of tube with left spring removed of L 110mm, R 60mm.
Some have said to remove the the cartrage from the right fork in order to pump it to remove all the oil.
An inquery to RYP on the subject just said to pump the fork up and down for 20 min. to do the same, then pump another 20 min after replenishing oil to remove air.
My theory is a bit different, such as remove caps and spring, ck measured oil height, drain out bottom while measuring what came out. Put back what came out then pump forks to remove air and verify oil height prior to capping off!
I really do not care if it all comes out! Much like servicing an automatic transmission, you never get it all out, just want to freshen it up! All is good in the hood and I am not going to mess around for hours on end with such a trivial issue!!
My thoughts!

All I can tell you is that airboxes are easy, a little heat will make it fit like a glove!
Muffs are a different story! I only ever replaced one and had similar problems. Had to knock the frame tabs a bit with a hammer and knock the rear down a bit using a rubber mallot! The thing will flex a bit, but use caution! If you are just unsure, see if you can exchange one off another bike to see if it is just THAT muff. If so, send it back!
That is all I can tell you!

As a "field engineer" in the auto industry, seems we never know exactly what to expect coming down the pipe nowadays!
Basically the "gas" is nothing but a mixture of hydrocarbons and additives, then oxigenated with alcohol or something which will achieve less mileage and somewhat cleaner output! E85 is worse as I understand! As far as fuel economy goes, there is simply not as much energy in alcohol as there is what we call gasoline!
I can deal with that, the fuel sucks basically, even the 93 octane premimum does not run well in motors that are not designed to deal with it, gaining nothing but unburnt residues! It will not neccessarily achieve you better mileage or performance in a engine that is not designed for it!!
All that being said, the question comes to mind of the Techron additive, iniatiated by Chevron and I believe recently adopted by Shell and possibly others. This stuff is basically proven to reduce carbon buildup in automotive use. Will the same hold true in a 2T motor? Will it have the same cleaning effect?
It is available as a concentrated cleaning additive, that is effective and proven as well. Will it work in breaking up hard carbon deposits throughout a 2T exhaust? Keeping things clean?
I have been tempted to do some experimentation, yet would prefer to rely on prior testing if possible, as there is not anything really new here, someone knows the answer already!

Still 5 wt, as you will never find what they spec for it!
You must have read by now the method fore the cartrage forks, and the ck levels?
-
I know for a fact that Dave was a hero of Ray Peters, who mentioned him often. I mentioned this in a prior post, but you ain't seen nuttin till you try to follow Ray up a rocky creek section at TTC, using one hand! When most cannot do it with two!
It is a humbling experience that teaches proper body positioning at all times as well as proper foot control, takes LOTS of practice!
Try it, small logs, curbs, rocks, see how far you get! Of course you have to start out with the one handed figure eights while blindfolded and a beer in the other hand! Save the beer!
If I can do it, well?
-
Get in there and GO for it, Ronnie!
Watch out for Itialian girls that have more hair than you do!
-
Gee, it worked!
Tell us the toll in man hours and goods!
Maybe you can rent that thing out!
-
I looked long at the raptors, but the 1/2 back(or others) pegs that RYP sells are tremendous as well. A large stable platform and your boot does not get stuck. Cost about the same, you'll chunk the stockers!
-
I am not sure if Ryan stocks any of the small bikes, but he could probably get one, I know Beta did.
They look like great fun, I rode the beta and it was pretty quick, the Sherco should be better!
You should call RYP to find out!
-
Welcome, sounds like you need to hook up with a few fellows to ride with! AND you would be a lot closer than me to that Outlaw Vintage trial up in BC!
-
Jon, speaking of that, where is our one footed friend? Someone needs to call his sorry ass to find out! He is a good rider too!
-
He is a D4 guy i think, from Carl Peters neck of the woods, cannot recall his name.
-
I knoe a few that wear knee cups/shinguards under their pants. I just stuff them in the boot and strap them on outside, as my knee braces are keeping me warm and flexable in the joints. They have saved me a kneecap or two on the rocks!
Of course it is warm here most times, but freezing now, I still wear the camelback which provides much needed water, tools and has offered me spinal protection on a few occasions. Did not help my butt, though!
-
Famous last words "Hey, lets watch those balls drop"! Why does thisone say HL?
I felt like Dick Clark looks, today, man that is BAD!
-
-
If you feel as though that is what the problem is, and all esae is well and in proper alignment, I think you may try to polish it with come crocus cloth(strip of sandpaper) from your auto parts store, or the abrasive roll on a Dremel tool.
Seems I did have one to do that, maybe the '05 bike, but it soon wore in on its own.
Hope that helps

Just watched it in NY!
Texas is next!
I'll be done by the time CA comes up!
-
It sounds like great fun. I would have to be able to spend some quality time to do it! I am pretty low maintenance, my agenda goes more like: Get off airplane, collect bags, rent car, find hotel with pub nearby.
Day two: find hotel near trials site with pub nearby. Sightseeing out pub window! Maybe go to find site!
Day three gets more difficult, get up early, go to site, someone wants me to try and ride a vintage bike through WHAT?, no thanks, I'll try to get in a little practice today before I return to the pub! As soon as someone shows up with a bike that has brakes!
Day four, Steve, maybe we could just share the Sherco in the sections, this Beta 80 is cool, but I am struggling a bit! I'll keep spare levers in the Camelbak, just in case!
Day five, rest day, before the return trip! Maybe go visit Steves house, 5 hours each way with the ferry! Crash At Pub!
Day six, find airport, hotel and adjacent pub!
Day seven, return trip, vacume house and laundry, clean bathrooms, kitchen and pool that noone has done in a week, 15hrs!
Next day, go back to work so I can rest!
-
Zipper, since Biff is treating you so well, you should treat yourselves with one of them weekends with Ryan! Money and time well spent.
Bring your camera on the second day to take pictures of Biff! (A little get even)
