Hey all,
Bought the program on the way to school on monday morning, been flicking through today and found a wee mistake... Tuesday route guide has the title of Monday.. Had me confused for a while so just a wee heads up! Will post a picture in a minute! Not the big title, the wee one on the top of the route box.
Love the six day poem and glad to see the price back at

Well, I went from a 250 beta rev3 to an 06 125 Sherco last febuary.. was pleasantly surprised, build quality feels a bit better and maintenance is so much easier when needed! The 06 shock was rather dodgy with an easily threaded bottom cup and poor seals, 07's were much better, better shocks, better brake disks and more progressive forks... Not saying these were poor on the 06, I found the sherco much better than the beta IMO.
07, 08 and 09 sherco's haven't really changed that much, few tweaks to the frame and engine but thats it really. Just got myself an 08 paxau 125, the riding posistion is much more comfy, the footpegs feel a tad further back, it grips slightly easier than my 06, even with less tyre! The 09 has even more tweaks I think...
On the maintenance side of things the sherco is easier than the beta, Not sure if things have changed but on my Beta the tank was part of the frame and the airbox was a bugger to remove.. with the sherco theres three bolts(one if you decide to use zip ties) to get the muguard off, slide the hose off the tank and then you can just pull it out... Airbox is then just an allen screw and a nut to remove, release the jubilee clips either side of the carb and remove the airbox, from here the carb just pops off. Just general maintenance, simple! With the tank out you have easy access to all wiring and the radiator.
If you search for the topic "sherco virgin" Theres about 16 pages of conversation about 'the addicts' switchover from beta to sherco and the differences he found!
Theres a few advantages of the beta, main one being the linkless suspension, less maintenance in this department.
All in all I would reccomend going down to the dealer and asking for a ride on the sherco, you can either love it or hate it. Considered the 08 monts? Maybe even a Xispa?
I have ultra high res photos of the 09 sherco if you want a close look from the comfort of your own home! Just send me a pm with your email address and I'll send them over!

Get yourself a plastic hamster bottle like this;
Its got to be a soft plastic though, the harder ones split with the force required!
Anyway, when you have it, drill the metal tip to get the ball bearings out!
Once you have bottle, get your hose and put it over the tip of the metal bit! (Its the same size as a bleed nipple) Put your spanner and hose on the bleed nipple, zip tie the hose on there, it has a tendancy to fly off...
Anyway, once the hose is in place, unscrew the cap and FILL the bottle with brake fluid.. screw the cap back on, squeeze until your fluid is at the end of the hose... Grab your pre adjusted mole grips (tight as possible) and put them round the bottle and squeeze as you open your valve!
Pretty simple, just make sure to hold your hose in place
-
Never mind the sheep... Get yourself a plastic hamster bottle, shove your hose over the metal peice on the cap.. fill it up and get the mole grips round it, can do the whole brake, from empty in under 30 seconds!

What kind of parts? Many different places offering different prices for different parts!
-
Has one of the seals got a pring round it? If so its just a dust cap
-
Local rumour has it that Dougie here pressed the lever a tad too hard, whilst cold and went flying into some shelves/boxes, killing 5th gear! That is why the previous owner wont take it back!
Something tells me bent shifter fork?
Not too hard a Job if you have a whole day on your hands, means splitting the cases though! If you look at the gas gas help videos on youtube the ones named "engine repair" cover this, same method on the gas gas and sherco, few bolts may be in different places but same procedure!
Ment to phone you Doogz, lost the phone though!
The club riding at the Camusdarach show this year? If not do you want to sort something out?
-
The adjuster from the lever into the cylinder wound right out?
-
I found the problem, the fan had ben conncted to the remaining cable for the lights after removal...
I can smell a really strong smell of coolant/antifreeze though, where should I check?
Moisture and smoke/steam coming from exhaust... head gasket?
-
I did stop...or else I wouldnt of been online to post that but rather, out on the bike till all hours!
Ive already bypassed the thermo, started it and nothing happened, will run the fan of a 12v battery later to check that its not the fan motor!
-
Black box under tank, up in head of frame, earth wire was off this, will solder a wire onto it see what happens!
-
Dont have a volt meter
Surely if the black box had gone the bike would be missing badly or not running atall?
Will have a fiddle tonight see if I can get her running!
-
Just got the new bike, 08 paxau sherco 125 with a load of 09 stuff on there... I took it for a ride, LOADS of power, it was ripping my arms out, 20 mins and the fan was still not on but the bike was steaming like mad, then it went all dull as if the bike was being starved of either air or fuel, killed it, waited for it to cool, took a good 10 mins during which time it wouldnt start.
Once cool it started first kick and all the power was back. Took it for another ride till it was spitting coolant and steaming, still no fan!
Whats it sound like? thermostat gone?
Will check all the cables and wires tommorow, check my three(which I found odd that there in three different places) grounding points to check there tight... then should i bypass the thermo, see if that works?
If that doesnt is it a new fan job?

4litres of fuel=4kg approx, 1litre of coolant=1kg approx
4+1=5
73+5=79
Its a heavy bike, you wont be able to lose that much though... maybe 2 kg? Not a noticeable amount!
-
Try sanding any scratches and scrapes out and then polish it up!
-
C'mon copey, your bound to know what to do... your the bloody sherco genius Help me
-
Bugger, still no pressure, needs done though, bikes sold hopefulyl!
-
New calipers here, big thanks to Rathmell. Shoved it on overnight for me!
Now, how the hell do I bleed this thing?
Edit: Bled, not much pressure in it though, pistons are only moving about 5mm... Maybe I need to adjust the push rod? How do I do this?
-
Best tyre guage I've ever used!
Simpl to use and is about the size of a screwdriver, fits in a bumbag nicely, clear display in all lighting conditions. Its accurate to about 1/10 psi. Just press it against the valve, take it off and look at the display, doesn't take ANY time for the pressure to appear on screen.
Really cheap too for what it is, works upto around 70 psi so suitable on the the cars too!
-
Cheers guys, tried the allen key method, tried gravity bleeding over night... still nothing, ordered a new caliper though as I appear to be buggered! Will try your method Mark and just keep the caliper as a spare!
That shall be delaying my plans for an 09 for a while...
-
Bugger... Know anywhere that sells just half?
-
Cam Lawrie? If so ill give him a buzz and have a wee word for you!
How does it feel as your going through the rest of the gears? Checked oil? If not drain it and run a magnet over it, see if theres any metal in there!
How was the bike before the gear went? was it ok? Have you dropped it? Cmon Dougs, give us some more info!
-
Right guys, had a heavily corroded bleed bolt, went to loosen it with some heat and wd40 and it just snapped clean off, filed it down and left it for my old man to get the bolt out (just so I have someone to blame when it goes wrong) Anyway, he comes in saying he snapped the extractor..
Really cant afford to have it spark eroded out so is there any other methods of bleeding? Someone mentioned putting a dab of grease on the banjo holes and loosening it off? this should let air out under pressure?
Could I hang the bike, remove the master cylinder cap and tap the brake hose and caliper?
For the front brake I wind the adjuster right out and then just slowly pump the lever in and out... doesn't involve using the bleed bolt? This doesnt appear to work on the rear.. Where (if there is) is the adjuster for the rear pedal?
Any other methods?
Cheers guys!

I dont really understand? Maybe a picture of the part?
