  1. There are many factors that must be right in order to make the engine run sweet, firstly I personally always start with a new carb either delorto or oko ( effects from oko are superb} . I have learnt through experience that carrying out a service on what may be an old carb is a waste of money. Secondly, as already said ,.the ignition must be good and also the engine must be tip top ,ie good crank seals, good compression. When all of this is satisfied also make sure the exaust is clean along with the silencer too.Be prepared to spend a bit of cash and you will get a great running bike.
  2. recently used PJ1 and was very pleased with the results no primer needed BUT make sure that you follow what is said on the tin .
  3. my short plunger (with an o ring on it) measures 17.8mm ,the long rod is same as yours 101mm , problem seems to be your short plunger if you say it is only 7 mm. Also would be best to raise the cable anchor on the engine a bit in order to keep things in line ,but not essential.
  4. my short plunger is flush with the casing , the movement needed to disengage is less than you think.Making the arm longer will increase the leverage therefore giving lighter feel at the lever on the bars. OR fit a hebo hydraulic kit to make it superb
  5. there is also a small plunger with an o ring on it that goes in last , about 12mm long I guess. So to re cap there are 3 items ...... 1 the ball 2 the long rod 3 the small plunger with oring . Hope this helps. If you need dimensions let me know and I will measure mine.
  6. Thanks to all at SW classic club for a great weekend.
  7. we have had poor turnouts at our trials on saturdays too. However another local club gets record entries on Saturdays and even Weds evenings . This club advertises as easy trials which prooves very popular and for some strange reason draws a certain band of riders ,some of which you never see at the other events locally!. Conclusion ? I can only conclude that people ride events that suit them. If we are honest with ourselves I suppose thats what we all do. Yes I know how it feels when less than 20 riders turn up to ride.
  8. hi this is what I have always believed, back around the early eightys there was a shortage of 200 fantics so a chap from around our way called Mike Hann ,who was a Fantic agent came up with the idea of the 156 top end on the 125 bottom ,so the 200 pro was born . I am sure that I will be corrected if I am wrong.
  9. As a joe average club rider its the momentary feet up stop 5s that are really bugging me, the whole issue has put observers on the spot, some of them are less willing to offer their services ,some are even withdrawing. This alone, cant be good for the sport. At our level things seemed to be ticking along fine ,so personally I find the whole thing quite a pain.
  10. got a second hand one for £100 , worse thing that I ever did to the bike as it transformed it for the worse ,even the exaust note changed to more barkier and grip became very poor in mud. I have since sold the bike as I lost faith in it. Wish that I had bought the re programeable body so as i could have at least been able to soften things a bit.
  11. Had the same thing with mine back along , turned out to be the throttle body. We changed every thing from a spare bike and this was the last bit but it cured the problem. Not the easiest bikes to fault find on unless you can do what we did.Good luck !.
  12. Have always found 1 seal works best with a spacer made up to take the place of the missing one. Easy to change too, 1 , remove top nuts 2 remove spring and spacers 3 tip upside down to drain oil 4 undo bolt at bottom of leg and this will allow sliders to be pulled out 5 lever seals out of leg after removing spring clip (if fitted) 6 fit new seal using suitable sized bush or socket as drift. 7 re assemble and fill with 230cc of sae 10 oil.
  13. Whilst at this event I got talking to one of the organisers and he was puzzled as to why more riders dont make the journey to this excellent event. I personally could not think of any particular reason .On my travels to other nationals and local events since I have taken it on myself to ask others this question and the common answer seems to be is that the Highlands Classic is too close (datewise) to the Scottish 2 day classic. I suppose this makes some kind of sense as those who travel a long way might feel reluctant to do it again so soon.I personally do not ride the 2 day so its not a problem, but I just thought it might be of interest to the organisers of the Highlands Classic.
  14. sorry for the late reply, unable to log on since tc site re vamp, but just wanted to say thanks to all concerned for a cracking weekend at Alvie. All I can say is ,for me, the sections were spot on and well worth the 1300m round trip.It was a real treat to ride real sections and personally I am planning next years epic already. We were realy touched by the hospitality that we recieved not just at the trial but Scotland in general. Once again thanks . Martin Gilbert.
  15. Entry in , looking foward to riding in Scotland for the first time ever ,for me, .650 odd miles each way I am going to remortgage the house to pay for the diesel , hay ho you only live once ! ! .
  16. Thanks for the info chaps, Nigel are we talking Normandale severity or Novagar maybe? Metisse thats a good idea thanks, may be pick some Fantics up too !!!!!!!
  17. Hi, a group of us have heard about this trial and are thinking of riding either in 2012 or 2013. Has anybody any info on this event please ? ,what levels of rider are catered for? any good or bad vibes ? etc etc .Would be most grateful for any info .Thanks.
  18. Yes very sad news ,my thoughts are with his family at the moment . I have known Victor all of my trials riding life and we have lost a hard working quiet, genuine ,gentleman whose tireless efforts for the off road world have allowed us many hours of pleasure . Thanks Vic ,may you now rest in peace.
  19. I always find it is best with these old Fantics to renew all of the electrics as a matter of course as they do deteriorate over the years.
  20. Have you got 2 seals per side ? because I have found the action is far better with 1 only and a spacer specially made up to take up the space of the missing seal.
  21. Hi, Agree with this and a good decision, however is this list exaustive because there are other bikes that also fall into this catagory and you know what it is like ,there will always be some one to spot a loophole in order to get that pot !!!!!!.
  22. Thanks Dave ,I have sent the details through a PM , Lee loook foward to seeing you Easter. Regards Martin.
