Are you loosing coolant ?
-
What's the worst that can happen ?
-
Phew, I'll sleep tonight !
-
Burning oil does have a different smell, and tends to hang in the air longer. Check the gear oil when its had time to settle, mark the sight glass if its easier. You should then have a better idea of whats going on.
A decent hot air paint stipper will clean out an exhaust, be prepared for a lot of smoke, even if the seal hasnt failed.
-
If it only smokes when it gets hot, and your not losing gear oil, whats burning ?
-
You said it only started smoking after 2 laps, in my experience this isnt crankshaft seals. They would smoke from the start
-
Back in the 70 / 80 's it was normal practice to run with the choke on when on the road for any distance.
-
-
Rings will not make your bike smoke. Do you have anyone close by that could have a look at the bike before you start tearing into it ? It would be as simple as a build up of oil in the exhaust, and it takes a couple of laps before there is enough heat to burn the oil.
-
Apparently Toni Bou won't ride the ssdt because the fuel supplied is of the wrong octane rating .....
-
Having read through the comments above, how do 4rt's survive 6 days of thrashing at the ssdt, on standard pump fuel ?
-
Why not get another pinky ?
-
You've gone very quite @shakennstirred, someone put your your computer on a high shelf ?
-
Hardly think spending £500 on a 40 year old trials bike is extravagant ? Or to put it in context, 3 months depreciation on a new bike.
-
Breagh and I swapped bikes and rode a lap, standard Bultaco against "modded" swm, I'm still in therapy.
(Breagh and I are slightly different dimensions)
-
You forgot, "and a decent carb" ?
-
Why would the supplier send replacement parts if there wasn't a known problem ?
-
I'll bet your 5'8"
@shakennstirred
-
Is this not a warranty issue ?
-
@johnnyboxer so why buy the Repsol, surely the standard one is more than good enough ? And is it completly standard, no after market foot rests, exhausts etc ?
-
Not only do I raise the bar's, and rotate them forward, I also move the foot rests down and back. 80's Italian (and Spanish) twin shock bikes seem to be designed around riders well less that 6' tall, I would argue that all I'm doing is scaling up the position. Having recently ridden a very nice bultaco in a two day trial, I can say the standard position didn't change my performance.

- unless it's on a Bultaco ..

Yes, left hand is for "personal hygiene" only.
