First of all the majority of the noise is behind the motorcycle therefore if you don't know the bike is there until you hear it then it is too late. Secondly, US drivers MUST be better informed and trained to look for those on bikes, horses, walking, and bicycles.. etc. our drivers training is extremely lacking in this respect. Also the predominate attitude of US drivers is "I am most important you move out of my way" But the attitude should be "we share the road" Third if you are riding ANY type of motorcycle and are unable to maneuver out of a situation or maintain control of the machine you have absolutely NO business on a road bike. Fourth the Harley is iconic, the SOUND may be patented but the VOLUME needs to be toned down. There is no valid argument as to why it is acceptable for one machine to be louder than the rest that are on the road. I may sound grumpy and bitter but honestly I don't care what you ride or what your hobby is but the laws and expectations need to be equal across the board.

here in the states there is a lot of debate and scrutiny of off road noise. Whether it be trials, moto x, quads. Also much watching of road bikes' noise. (I hate it when somebody puts straight pipes on a Harley, but that may be a different debate) I really like a quiet bike, within reason I still want to hear the "motorcycleness" of it. I like my cars and trucks quiet. And yes Neonsurge is correct the 4 stroke is heard farther away because of the lower frequency. My biggest complaint is that the people that are so fired up about us motor heads making noise out in the woods or at a designated race track or off road park, or practicing one or two bikes on our own property during normal daylight hours are the same people that do one or more of the following. Have really booming bass systems in their cars. Sit outside with the radio playing as loud as possible so they can hear it at the opposite side of the lawn where they are raking leaves or whatever. Have a "tuner car" with that "Scoobie Burble". Fire up some sort of heavy equipment at midnight. (don't laugh have experienced this first hand) Has an outdoor party with a DJ or band that plays really loud until 2 am. (this one was just last week) Have a car with a loud exhaust. Have a "garage" band that is practicing super loud. My point is that we as humans make noise, noise is everywhere. Yes we need to reduce the noises that can be reduced but EVERYBODY needs to realize that if they have the freedom to make the noise they are making they should not complain about the noise others are making. I am tired of the mentality that "I am more important than everyone else so if I don't like what you do you have to stop. otherwise I will get the law involved. But I can do whatever I want" And as time goes on with more people being on the planet and living closer together these problems are only going to get worse. OK rant over.

Well to do this sport you have to be a little bit crazy. The shorts are actually motocross pants that the lower legs zip off to make shorts. So the knees are sort of covered. The shorts are very comfortable, I stay cool on hot days, they are loose and allow free movement. I have yet to scrape or cut my knees, I do say yet because I imagine it is only a matter of time but that is a risk I am willing to take for the above mentioned benefits. If it is cold out I put the lower legs back on. Yep maybe I am a bit mad.

Quite possibly a marketing ploy by Honda to get the montesa 4RT into various stunt oriented movies and get some exposure of the bike. Because trials riders will recognize it and tell all the people we know and maybe the other motorcycle enthusiasts will say "Wow you can do that on a trials bike? They're cool. yea what you said and that is why I wear: gloves NZI Trivent helmet Trials boots Ankle braces (I twisted one up really bad and having the braces makes me "feel" safe, they are my blanket) T-shirt Shorts. All the important bits are protected. Being able to move freely to roll, dodge, weave or hop or whatever to lessen the impact of your fall and get out of the way of the bike is more important than stopping a scrape or two. Just my opinion.

I had a small ding in my fork tube which gave a sharp edge that would cause my fork seal to fail. I saw a topic on here that suggested epoxy. Just want to share my method and findings. I used sets in 5 min epoxy. Disassemble fork. Have just the upper fork tube. Obtain 2000 grit Wet/dry sandpaper Soak sandpaper with WD-40 and coat fork tube with WD-40 Lightly buff offending sharp edge. Clean fork tube with brake cleaner, being certain to remove ALL of the oil off the fork tube. Or the epoxy won't stick. Warm fork tube where the ding is. I used small propane torch, took 3 seconds to warm it up nicely. Heat gun would probably work just as well Quickly mix clear epoxy Dribble epoxy into ding Smooth epoxy with flexible piece of plastic. chunk of the blister pack epoxy came in worked nicely Wait until epoxy is fully cured. 1 Hour for the stuff I used. Again buff with the WD-40 and sandpaper until smooth. Reassembled with fixed ding to the rear. (Also a suggestion from the original thread) I rode around the yard for 15 minutes and all seems well. Hopefully it will last forever.

Howsabout a piccie of Zippy on his 250 Ninja? I flog the hell out of that thing (Shift gears at 13K rpms redline is 14K) and still get 55 MPG. I ride to work almost everyday of summer. My definition of summer is over 40 F. I have been known to ride to work in November and once last year in January. The coldest so far I have ridden in is 32 F. (That was very chilly) Now like you said Cope it is false economy to buy a bike to save money on gas, because of extra insurance and plates cost. I ride cuz it is FUN!! not to save money on gas. Give him some time, he will try something with his new little scoot. He is totally crazy!!!!

In MOTA we have 2 clubs scheduling 2-day events this year. A first for us. And the Zippy family accountant (The Wifey) says that's the way to go. So that may be the wave of the future. On the other hand Trials Incorporated events have been 2 day events for years. Seams to work well for them.

I like the current sherco style muffler mainly because of the shape.........stays away from the rear tire, a bit more difficult to smash... But a total pain to repack, cut pack weld sheesh. That would definitely jack up that price. well there goes my dream of owning a NEW bike. or possibly that is only on Cobos' bike and the production model gets a much cheaper version.

Not sure if Crosset's bars will do a complete 360, but Travis Pastrana did outfit an MX bike with 360 bars. So it can be done, just not sure if it was done to this trials bike.

Looks like the break line for the front break is routed through the stearing head, much like a BMX bike. With the portion of the Forks "missing" between the lower and upper triple clamps I think he can spin his handlebars 360 deg. much like on a BMX bike. ???????????

I currently ride a 2000 Sherco 2.9, In 5 years I will be riding............... a 2000 Sherco 2.9. So buy the bike you know you like.... sounds like 2 stroke. I personally believe that parts will be available for many years for it. Eventually probably 4-stroke will be the norm unless the political bias against 2 stroke goes away. I would hate to see 2 strokes die. Personally I think all these "electric, Hybrid, and alternative fuel" vehicles are nothing more than a marketing ploy by the manufacturers to make themselves appear to be environmentally conscious among the general population. And they are doing the bare minimum work and research to comply with the Government mandates of exploring "alternate fuel" options. Besides Auto Manufacturers and "Oil Companies" are basically business partners. Why make it so that the general public is using less gasoline or Diesel???? We have no other choices Built in dependancy. I won't comment on the price of oil products but will say that my opinion is that oil ain't going away and is actually renewing itself. Another opinion. If you think that "alternate fuel" of any kind will actually make it cheaper to drive your vehicle.. you are mistaken. The oil companies are no longer calling themselves "Oil Companies" They are now known as "Energy Companies" Therefore no matter what fuel is used to power your vehicle (except maybe solar) the rights and patents will be purchased or taken over by the "Energy Companies" and these fuels will be supplied by the "Energy Companies", and the "Energy Companies" will be setting the prices. And you can bet that the prices will be extremely close to gasoline prices. Reason is simple....profits... the companies like them and want to keep them. Anything that takes away from Gasoline sales, they will want to be selling and at a price that is comparable so they can keep the same profit percentage. Well there is my sunny outlook on life.

I cut about a half inch off each side. I use Pro-Taper bars and they have cut marks on them makes it easy. With the bars wider it puts my wrists at an odd side angle. I try to make it so that my hand and fore arm are "in-line" with each other.

It's not the heat it's the humidity........LOL Yep the heat got to me more and whipped me out. Now that you mention it the sections were pretty open not alot of hopping. I would love to drop less than 110 pts in an event HAHAHAHA I am not sure if the "extra 5's" on my card would have been much different if I had time to finish. I do think that the ground was drying up in spots as the day went on.
