  1. I don't think that sounds sound - the carb is unlikly to be too big is it?.... after all a 250cc endro bike will have a much larger carb and they run fine. You could have dirt in the carb blocking the pilot jet....Have you got a fuel filter on the bike? I've had bikes with poor compression and they still jetted correctly - ie no need to change carb settings from when the bike was fresh
  2. Well done so far. Now you have a leanness in the idle circuit. Normal is roughly 1.75 turns out. Try adjusting the mixture screw a little in either direction to see if the prob goes away.
  3. There is probably lots of posts about this in the beta forum. Sigh. There is some thought to NOT use tap water in the coolant mix..... hunt out a 4l ready mixed pack of coolant from an Auto store. I wouldn't replace the casing!!!! I'd go and buy a 2 pack metal repair kit. They come in a twin syringe part A and Part B .... mix it together affair. Again get it from the Auto store. Clean every thing up really well (get the hot water onto it!) and give it a go. Nothing to loose and likely better than new. Ralphy
  4. 1.5 hrs is not unreasonable - my 07 Beta 270 would do the same. Further, 1.5hrs would mean a 6hr day in SSDT would only require 3 fuel stops plus a refuel at the park. Not bad! I'm not sure how long in hours my Beta 4T will last, but i have worked it out (twice) to get 10km/l which is means i can only go 22km or 13 miles! It depends how you ride the bike..... and it is still a very cheep motor sport.
  5. I had the same bike and had the same issues. It sounds like it needs new fibre plates. Give the plates a clean to remove excess material before fitting. And rough the steel plates with some 100 grit It's likely you'll need too remove the clutch basket (use and air impact wrench) and file any plate groves out of the basket. Use a new fine file (large) and take your time. Place the file across opposite basket fingers and be smooth. File the same number of strokes for each finger. Be square. Oh and take your time. Slip went away. I always used ATF and changed it frequently. Most trials bikes are a SOB to find neutral. It is supposed to save missing a gear in a section. Yes some of them were a bit tougher to shift up through the gears no matter what oil was used.
  6. No issues with my 08 250 rev4T. Lovely bike that runs really well. I have done a couple of tweeks and it has plenty of power. IMHO it is the nicest 4 stroke by a long shot.
  7. You could lower the compression by putting in an extra 1 or two base gaskets. It will soften the bottom end and somewhat tend to push the power peak further up the rev range.

Up by the steering head you will see a plastic frame bung thingy. Remove the LHS one to get to the radiator cap. There is no expansion tank so when you top it up it will spit out the first 30ml when warm.
  9. It is likely you'll get the programmable fuel injection system & software.
  10. I'd say you were lucky. Ask him how to improve and work on it. We were told yesterday that we are on a 18mth pay freeze. Feck! I'm lucky to have a job in the next 18mths so am somewhat ok with this. Bl**dy power/phone/rates/etc seem to go up every 2mths so we'll struggle, but keep smiling. Ralphy

Check the pistions move in and out freely (remove the pads to test) and the caliper is blead properly. But.... the rear brake sounds like the pads have had brake fluid on them so they have to be binned.
  12. Hey Andy. When you find out what/where/when/who, can you post it up. Please. I am interested inn getting it to the New Zealand sports channel(s) to see if we can get it on air here. Thanks.
  13. Just to add another 2cents. If the faces are 'picked up' with a burr - do NOT lap them together with paste...... until you stone off the burr. As said check for bottoming out nuts (christ there is an image) then go to the auto store and buy a cheep air impact wrench.
  14. Solvent and a brass brush - you do not want to scratch the smooth surface of a plug. No sandpaper or sand blasting!..... Because a couple of grains that could drop out of a newly cleaned plug could easily scratch the bore.

    Beta Rev 4

The two lowest vents on RHS & LHS go downwards. At the top of the carb one RHS larg vent is blocked off with a cap, and the one next to it (smaller in diameter) the vent goes upwards past the fuel cap

Try this... I have had huge difficulty finding how to proerly tune the BSR carb.... but this was helpful. Oh and the same carb is fitted to some Yams and Suzukis http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module...oup/CARBURETOR_
  17. You are kidding me... i can pick up an Iridum plug for 2-2.5 times the price of a std! I find they have a more reliable spark at low revs and last well over a year. Yes there is a bunch of cool technolagy inside e'm.
  18. Practice what you are worstest at... or hate the most. Or just what ever you fancy - after all it has to be fun.

Yip Agreed. Their mod doesn't effect fuel level in the carb. I would have thought the float or float valve was sticking - perhaps there is dirt in the fuel or fuel filter.
  20. I thought the embrittlement only came about with Chrome plating, and is why some frame makers Nickel plated their frames.
  21. Just a quiet word of warning ..... Many moons ago i had a frame zinc & passivated before painting and the residue in the tubes leached out and marked the paint. Sigh.... nothing is ever easy.
  22. Yip. The gold and rainbow coloured forks are a vacuum flash vapor deposited coating of titanium reacted with nitrogen all over the top of hard chrome plating. The TI coating mimics a very hard ceramic surface. I never knew the dark coating was boron... is it the same as the black chrome exhausts of years ago?
  23. Just remove it and the light unit, the gap is weight savings ) ..... oh and don't forget to throw the the other POS in the bin!

    Fantis 307

Very reliable and a great bike in their day. I rebuilt one 6 years ago. Lots of stuff is available but kick starts and pistons were getting v difficult to locate back then (but that may be different now). I got my difficult parts from PEMS garage in UK. There was no major faults with the bikes. Unsure of price now. Ralphy
  25. I just use the Beta pads. They work fine and are a reasonable price.
