I'm finishing my restoration on my 250 and noticed that there is no plastic guide or wear block on top of the swing arm like there are in the later models. Anyone come up with an alternate solution to prevent the chain from hitting the top of the swing arm?

hello dear cyber friends, so moving onto replacing steering head bearings now (74TYa). Are there any top tips or special tools i should think about or read up on before embarking on this (for me) cryptic conundrum of mechanical mastery. are there any surprises replacing the original old ball and race with the new tapered kit? this vid got me a wee bit nervous... ive watched many vids online but they're all big road bikes, and i've searched the forum and found a few things, but if i'm missing a useful thread and this has been covered before please direct me there! im just looking for a basic walk through on procedure if different/easier on a…

hi as your aware the bush wears in the gear linkage cover on the tys especially the ty175 there is some fixes but some are expensive ive tried something that works superbly and makes gear changeing a lot more responsive as the main oil seal is behind the cover the outer oil seal behind the lever is more of a dust seal as no oil should be behind the cover if it is then the inner seal has gone . i removed the outer seal and fitted a 12mm x 19mm x12mm bearing that i pressed into the casing where the external oil seal should be pressed it in with my vice and two pieces of wood so not to damage, the bearing fits tight and the shaft is nice and snug this allowing the gea…

My clutch is slipping on my 250 mono, and there seems to me no more adjustment i can make so i suspect the clutch friction plates are worn out. i have seen these plates on ebay for £25 about half the price of any others ive seen http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220994976060?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1328wt_1037 does anyone know if they will be any use? Cheers Lewis

Does anyone know. Can I take my 1986 Yamaha TY350 cylinder and have it bored out. And then use it without new chrome? Is the material under the chrome hard enough to run a piston in? Alternately. Will a TY250 top end fit on the TY350 block? Thanks.

Just finished a rebuild on my Pinky, I've bought a metal tank off an older TY mono for now but I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on how to clean up the outside of a mono plastic tank?. I dont't want to spray it as I know it will bubble off, surely there must be some kind of a mild acid soap that can take off the horrible yellow colour these tanks seem to go....any thoughts?

Well this old bike is still giving me surprises and while I'm waiting on the cylinder re-bore and new piston, I thought I should look at how much crud was hiding in the tail pipe. Not to be disappointed, the tail pipe decided to cough up a couple of peanut sized chunks of pure carbon. So I know there is more in there somewhere. took off the expansion chamber too of course and it was not as bad ( I think) but the engine (when it was together) would belch 2 stroke smoke from all angles when it first started up. Could be that this carbon was what was causing the detonation during deceleration? Something was definitely going on in the cylinder. (see pictures below) …

On a '74 TY240 there are 3 coils inside the mag. Only one (I guess) feeds the spark, other two for lights. Is there any reason to leave the lighting coils inside a "non-lights" Trials only bike? Second question: what is 434-81332-10-00 PLATE, TIMING since there is no adjustment to the timing what does this plate do? Thanks Alan
