I have a Teikie carburator which I am positive is the stock carburetor as I bought the bike new. It is black. I would like to locate a carb rebuild kit or if not available locate an original carb but need to know the internals are good as if I can't find parts it would be a problem. Guys, Need your opinion. I still have time to specify what happens to my "new" cylinder from my TY 250A. It won't get to Millenium Technologies for another few days. And originally I was going to have it Nikasil plated, But now I am wondering if that is still a good idea? It will get a new Wossener piston too unless there is some reason not to?? The TY 250 barrel has a cast iron liner. But the cylinder is still the old air cooled type. There will be more heat expansion on this setup than would be the case with a water cooled cylinder, and it's a 2 stroke of course, but what are the advantages of a Nikasil lining for this application? Hi got my ty 200 majesty running to day but kick start in only working at very bottom. Seems to be slipping. Shaft end is good and new end on kickstart so only can presume inside. Remember on shaft there is a pressed like part on shaft. And being Told to weld this on to stop slipping. Anyone done this???

Hi Guys, most greatly appreciated quickie steer on a Yamaha 4 stroke fault. Plenty of spark but no ignition and plug totally dry, replaced petcock in tank, replaced carb, (even removed carb and sprayed easy start direct into manifold while cranking), plug still dry with no ignition ? I had removed the plug and filled the plug socket (in the head with tissue, turned the engine and it blasted out), hoping to indicate compression ? I'm at a complete loss as to what to look for next, any ideas would be most greatly appreciated Thank you very much

ty 80 chain rubbing noise on chain tensioner why is this? it came off tensioner becuase transporting .then i put chain back on and when i push bike its a rubbing noise. there is rubber on the tensioner isnt fully worn??

Guys, Does anyone know if this rear brake lever is off of another model (factory bend) or is it something anyone can do with a propane torch and a vice? Notice how the pegs are in the rear position and the brake lever is still easily accessable?

somone mentioned 60 to 1. can i use castrol racing fully synethetic in my ty 80 it says for highly tuned engines a know a tyy 80 is an old motor.but if i run 50 to 1 or 60 to 1 will be ok???? what about valvoline what ratio can i run this 60 to 1 is safe.its supposed for racing i guess.but in a ty i can run it?? normal gasoline 95 octane

recently bought a 1975 yamaha ty 80 b. i run fuel oil ratio 40 to 1. do you need expensive 2 stroke oil. will using i use semi synthetic cost around £9. should i use castrol or will regular scoooter motorcycle 2 stroke work.well. also what compression should a ty 80 have the haynes manual states 78 psi warm engine>?? 78 psi seems low. piston and rings look ok think there quite new by the looks. rings and bore seem ok. i can get photos if needed not an expert on engines just picked up some knowldge over time..iIhad to order new head gaskets studs becuase the owner before had used a cut off piece of gasket.it was circle had the edges cut offf and it failed. had exh…

So here is the last part to be burnt out or cleaned in some way. I was thinking maybe some drain cleaner? Drano or something like that? MEK? As you already may know, the exit hole is very small. So this does not lend itself to cleaning with a scraper or screwdriver. I have to go and get two more gallons of degreaser and soak this thing again overnight. but any thoughts are much appreciated.

This part of the tail pipe accepts the end plug assembly you see in the last thread above. It is also steel construction. It looks like there is a baffle inside there that is most likely welded in about half way down the length of the tube where the diameter starts to change. .? The baffle has several "spokes" to it and makes it look like the center of an old mag wheel. This is where I think the main part of the obstruction for the exhaust gasses was located. I have already poked down in there with a coat hanger and not much is coming out now Sorry for the poor image quality, but it's hard to take pictures in a black hole! . Thought I should start a new thread for this one. The pictures tell the tale better than I can. All the parts on this one seem to be steel unless there is some aluminum tubing inside the Stainless Steel mesh between the large washer/baffles.? This stainless mesh is spot welded onto the inner tube and the inner tube is full of about 1/4 inch holes. You can't see the holes unless you hold it up to the sun light. I won't burn this part out just to be safe. It is not caked with carbon deposits anyway. Just another dip in the degreaser shoud clean it up well enough. Guys, I started a thread asking about cleaning the tailpipe and got side tracked a bit. Can anyone look at these photos for me and see if that intake side port opening looks damaged or modified or normal? in some way? It looks to me that one side of the opening is lower than the other, and somehow it might have been caused by someone in there with a grinder? The right side of the image is much shinier than the left side as well, so I don't know why that would be the case. All I did was wash the whole jug with water and a solvent and I did not scrub this area on the right any more than I did on the left side. So something has been in there either with a lot…

Well this old bike is still giving me surprises and while I'm waiting on the cylinder re-bore and new piston, I thought I should look at how much crud was hiding in the tail pipe. Not to be disappointed, the tail pipe decided to cough up a couple of peanut sized chunks of pure carbon. So I know there is more in there somewhere. took off the expansion chamber too of course and it was not as bad ( I think) but the engine (when it was together) would belch 2 stroke smoke from all angles when it first started up. Could be that this carbon was what was causing the detonation during deceleration? Something was definitely going on in the cylinder. (see pictures below) …

Just about to send off my cylinder to Millenium Technologies for re-work. Trying to source a new upper end con rod bearing for the 74 TY 250 A. I have sources for everything else. The part number listed in the factory documentation says it is 93310-21854 But the one I found at Yamaha Partshouse (Babbits) was listed as 93310-218A6-00 . Don't know if this is the same part or if someone has a cross reference list somewhere? Or if there is a NOS part still in the wrapper that someone is willing to part with? Just trying to avoid a SNAFU at the time when everything goes back together. The old bearing was missing a roller when I took it out of the engine.

After some searching on Ebay and my local Yamaha bike shop (no help there) I am wondering about my next top end overhaul. I don't ride it much, but I noticed last time out that it was dinging a bit louder than I would like going down hill with the throttle closed. From what I am seeing, the time between overhauls on these 2 strokes is on the order of 30-40 hours! So I'm going to do a compression test as soon as I can fabricate a right angle adapter for my compression gauge hose. The hose I have with the compression gauge is too stiff to allow it to thread into the spark plug hole without risking damage because the frame is centered right above the spark plug hole. …

I have a 74 model 250A serial number 434-011251 and I need the shop manual for it. That's the downside. Now the good side is that I also have a 1975 B model shop manual if anybody needs one.? Maybe we can trade? I have been using the info from the B model shop manual to do all a the tune up and work on the ignition (Magneto and Points/condenser) up to a point. I lowered the pegs on this bike a while ago and was not happy with the amount of free travel for the standard brake pedal once it was adjusted downwards to suit the new footpeg height. I made a couple of experiments first to make sure the shape was going to be right and finished the final product today. I'm getting the bike ready for a friend to ride at our upcoming state Twinshock Titles.
