As I simply can't get myself to fork our the 200+ dollars for a new kick start on my TY 175 I have to ask the question - what are my alternatives??? Will any newer model kick starts fit, say something from a newer bike, different manufacturer etc? How about from the TY80? The TY80 kick start look much stronger, albeit a little shorter, and they are cheaper and readily available (at the moment at least). The TY 175 looks (and was) kinda weak... Anyone??

Finally got my hands on a very nice set of TY250 forks, to put on my little TY175. Tore into them and other than years of crud, look good. Here's a before and after photo, with a little more polishing to do on these. Other than blocking off one of the smaller holes, any other tips to get these forks up and running again? Getting new seals and just wanted to see if I needed to do anything else before putting them all back together. Thanks for any advice!

I'm looking to purchase new shocks for my TY175. The Betor Expert Trials shocks appear to be a great value. They are offered in 340mm (stock length) and 360mm. Trail and Trials UK states on their web site: "We fit these to all our TY125 & TY175 bike as the extra length not only increases ground clearance but improves the steering quite dramatically." Before I make my purchase I'm looking to see if anyone here has experience with the two lengths and if 360mm is the way to go. Thanks

Has any one re-covered a ty250 seat. I need to know if the foam has a base inside the vinyl cover to to support it. The factory parts drawing shows the padded piece as a stand alone part that bolts to the fibreglass seat fairing. Mine is not original and it feels like someone has used a piece of plywood inside.

Hello friends, Having read on here about the modifications people do to the weight of the flywheel to affect performance, could someone comment if my flywheel has been adjusted or if this is standard? it appears to have some holes drilled in it and doesn't look exactly like the pic in the parts manual. i know the previous owner was serious enough to swap the front 14 tooth sprocket to a 12 so I'm curious as to whether the flywheel was modified also or is standard. And would someone be kind enough to briefly recap the difference between a heavier or lighter flywheel and the effect it has on the bikes performance? (I'm still a little unsure) with many thank…

Hi all, I´m not a TY guy (had a used mono in about 1990). Theres a red and white 1977 twin shock TY 350 for sale and I didn´t ever hear of there being a 350 one. The seller says it has registration documents where it says TY250 but he´s got a pic of the barrel that say´s 350 (351 cc exactly). It´s not cheap as he want´s 1250,00 Euros and its a non runner thats been standing outside with rust on the forks etc. etc. Any information about the 350 from 1977 would be interesting !

I have a Teikie carburator which I am positive is the stock carburetor as I bought the bike new. It is black. I would like to locate a carb rebuild kit or if not available locate an original carb but need to know the internals are good as if I can't find parts it would be a problem. For some reason the guy who rebuilt mine lost the needle valve Anu ideas would be helpfull Geof Phillips

Just picked up a TY80 for my nephew to ride. Bike had been sitting but is mostly all there and after a quick carb cleaning it started right up. I am curious about the oil pump. Do most people run the oil pump, or is it removed and the bike run on premix? I know on my old DS7 and RDs we'd drop the pump for track use. Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Guys, I started a thread asking about cleaning the tailpipe and got side tracked a bit. Can anyone look at these photos for me and see if that intake side port opening looks damaged or modified or normal? in some way? It looks to me that one side of the opening is lower than the other, and somehow it might have been caused by someone in there with a grinder? The right side of the image is much shinier than the left side as well, so I don't know why that would be the case. All I did was wash the whole jug with water and a solvent and I did not scrub this area on the right any more than I did on the left side. So something has been in there either with a lot…

I picked up a 1977 Yamaha TY175 recently and the bike works fantastic. Rode my first vintage trials last Sunday and it never missed a beat. The one thing I am not happy about is the stock silencer. All is intact, but it just seems too loud. I repacked it before the event on Sunday and it seemed a bit better at first, but by halfway thru the event it seemed too loud again. I checked the packing this evening and it was fine. Is there anyway to repack the stocker to make it quieter? Or should I look at one of the aftermarket systems? And if so, which one?

  20. I have a Yamaha TY250 Twinshock around a 1974 -1975 it is in mint condition with only 500 miles on it. The bike starts no problem and sounds good it's only when riding and at 3/4 - full throttle that it seemd to start pinking and looses power. I've had the carb out countless times and cleaned it also checked the reed valves, air filter and the exhaust and there all fine someone mentioned it could be a timing problem but i'm not sure I love this bike but and want it fixed Anyone any ideas?????
