Can anyone help me with finding the right shade of silver for a ty80 frame or is it a case of matching it up the best you can!

Just finished a rebuild on my Pinky, I've bought a metal tank off an older TY mono for now but I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on how to clean up the outside of a mono plastic tank?. I dont't want to spray it as I know it will bubble off, surely there must be some kind of a mild acid soap that can take off the horrible yellow colour these tanks seem to go....any thoughts?

A few years ago I bought a TY125 to learn how to ride and as I've got new bikes it's just been pushed to the back of the shed. However, I dug it out today and am curious ... What year the bike is? How common are they? What colour/decals they should have for their year? Is the bike mechanically the same as the TY250 except for the barrel? Are all TY125's gutless or is it just mine? The bike is tatty and mechanically not brilliant. Hi Just got a TY250 Mono - red frame so reckon around 1985 ish. Does not run well so amongst other things I looked at the silencer The rear silencer seems completely clogged with oil/carbon and I want to know if I am wasting my time trying to clean it? I think from reading other posts that I cannot burn it out as it has glass fibre in it which will melt. I tried soaking it in brake cleaner for 24hrs and it has taken some off but still reallly clogged. It is clogged to the point that if you pour brake cleaner in 1 end it wont run out the other so I assume neither will the exhaust gases be able to flow the way they are supposed to! My rebuilt 1975 TY175 is running poorly. This is the first running since engine rebuild. It runs fair, but pops and kinda backfires. Doesn't want to idle. I've gone back and checked timing several times. I put a new carb on, but it still runs the same. Could it be the capacitor or coil? Any hints would be great! Mick

hello all, I have just bought a ty 175 for twinshock trials with the local club. after some shed time and research time, the bike has the following faults: * autolube has been removed, leaving the autolube pipe unplugged and hanging off the carb * exhaust baffle had been squashed closed in a vice * a piece of sponge as an air filter * blow by on the piston when viewed from the exhaust port * although it did run ok, the bike refuses to idle unless the choke is on / idle screw removed and hole blocked with finger * what appeard to be play on brake side rear wheel bearing, but was play between brake drum and wheel. hi i am fairly new owner of a ty175 with a sammy miller one piece tank seat unit. i need to replace my coil and to do so i need to remove the tank the only problem is i do not know how to, please can any one tell me, any help is greatly appreciated.

The mechanism that pushes the pushrod to disenguage the clutch plates isnt working right and drops a bit. Seems like it is not pushing the pushrod, there is no resistance against it, and it doesn’t return to neutral positions. Do I have to split the cases to get to it to repair it? Any thoughts on what it might be?

Does anybody know where I can possibly get any of the rear seat brackets from? Thanks

hello all.. ive just recently bought a yamaha ty250 mono.been told it may be early to mid eighties.its a steel tank model with drum brakes...can anyone send me a pic of one of these bikes..i should have looked at the chassis number,might have helped in identifying the year.. at moment it has a red frame although this has been brush painted at some stage..front wheel rim is gold..rear is alloy..side stand is on right hand side..seems to have been fitted with lights at some stage..has rear brake light switch bracket welded to frame above right footrest..has steering lock on left side of head stock...any pics or sales brochure pics would greatly be appreciated....will post…

Just a thought.... Back in about 2007 I bought a TY250 twinshock as a non runner / spares bike. It has sat at the back of the pile of bikes since then totally untouched, a couple of weeks ago I spent a day digging it out and making it into a trial ready ratty hack... I rode the first Golden Valley evening trial on it and it went well.This afternoon I took it up in the woods for a play practice with a mate and had trouble shifting down through the gears - from any gear shifting to a lower one.I got around it by lifting the lever slightly before pushing down.Feels like a weak detent spring or similar to me,it doesn't jump out of any gears once selected. Hello, I'm riding an '85 TY 250, and it seems to suffer from pinging quite a lot, as well as pre-ignition. The current spark plug is an NGK B8ES, and I'm unsure whether a colder or hotter plug will remedy this, or if there's more involved. Is this fault common to this particular model?The bike is in good condition, originally being registered on the road, with 600 km. on the odometer. Thanks, Jason.

Hi, My Yamaha TY80 manual states the correct gearbox oil as 10W-30. The only oil I can find locally is semi-synthetic 10W-30. Does anyone know if this will be O.K. Or do I ned to keep searching. Thank you in advance.

Just wondering what everyone is using for a rear tire on there TY250a.I,ve read that the IRC tubeless,which is what I wanted to use, will not stay on the bead very well.How about the IRC tube type?

Hi all, I know that the front wheel of my 74 TY250 was not on correctly when I bought the bike. I have looked at the pictures in the book but can't see what spacers/bearing/washers go where. Mine has a split spacer on the right side between the pinch part and the fork tube- the split spacer/tube is longer than the fork tube bottom..... is this correct? Is there a spacer between the edge of the fork tube bottom and the wheel hub(around the axle)? On the left: If there anything between the brake hub and the edge of the fork tube(around the axle)? Picked up a TY80 the other day for $50. It's pretty complete and in good shape. Original tires, seat and tank are in great shape. Pipe and guard are in good shape. Wheels are true and tight, etc. The problem is the connecting rod is broken and as many of you know, it's a little expensive to rebuild the lower end. Based on that, I'm starting to have second thoughts on jumping into this one...talk me in or out of taking the plunge on this little bike.

Hi. i bought a set of TY250 forks to fit to my TY175. The problem is they don't have the lug on the fork that retains the arm that holds the brake drum in place. I thought the forks were inter-changeable but obviously certain TY250's had different forks.Can any one advise how to get these to fit. If I need a new wheel or drum to match does anyone know what specific TY variation these forks are from. Help,every time I think I could have fixed my ty175 I then do a trial on a warm day,like today,and it starts to cut out,no spark.As far as I know I have checked or replaced every thing that could go wrong so now it looks like I will purchase an electronic ignition.So the question is should I go for the one sold by Trail and Trial or the one on the Majesty trials site,looking at them they dont look the same and from the spec they give different advance curves.Anyone got any advice? please.
