Hi, I have a standard Ty175 but want to 'tune' it a bit and was considering boyesen reeds. What difference do these make and are they worthwhile. I have a miller tailpipe to be fitted but will wait until after reeds if thats the best way.

Hi I thought I would share my recent experience of removing the front 2 cylinder nuts (long aluminmium) from my TY250D. These nuts were seized solid I tried the following methods to remove them because I thought they were seized on the crank case studs: 1) Impact wrench (24v electric) - Did not budge. 2) Long extension bar and 13mm socket with a blow torch heating up the nuts - Resulted in rounding the hex shape of the nuts. 3) Drill a small hole in the top and spray liquid wrench onto the stud inside the nut, then use a irwin bolt extractor with a long extension bar - resulted in the hex section of the nut shearing off completely. At this point I was considering …

Hi Does anyone have know a reasonable colour match for a TY 175 petrol tank? It dosen't have to be an accurate paint code or anything elobrate, just one of the (sometimes daft) names they give car colours would be great. Cheers

  9. Ladies and Gents- has anyone recently bought a new rear sprocket for their TY250A - I mostly ride fire roads - bike is still not set up for trials- The sprockets and chain are all worn out-I can start over with either 428 or 520 chain but durability is important to me- I'll be miles and miles from the truck if something goes wrong. But getting back to the question- who is a good supplier in the USA? And part numbers if you have them please!

Just wondering if anyone can help in identifying what model my recently acquired Ty250 mono is? Frame is fire engine red and it looks like the engine number starts 88V (frame number matches up). Many thanks.

Hi, Is it possible to get a slide for the carburetor fitted to a Yamaha TY 80 circa 1974, and how much would one cost. Also having difficulty cranking with the kick start, only starts to work half to three quarters at the end of it's travel and sometimes can't get it to engage at all....................rob PS. Thanks in antiscipation

My TY175 lost spark so I thought I'd check the primary and secondary winding resistances of the ignition coil. The manual states 6k ohm for secondary winding resistance (between HT lead and coil earth) and 4 to 5 ohm for primary winding resistance (between small black wire and coil earth). The secondary resistance was fine, but I've run into problems measuring the primary. To start with, I put the red lead on the thin black wire and black lead on the coil earth and the meter showed an open circuit, but when I swapped the leads over it read about 2.5 Mohm resistance. Strange, conducts one way but not the other - methinks maybe there's a diode in there. Sure enough, the ty…

Does anyone know if it is possible to use an electronic ignition from an RD80 or similar on a TY. If the flywheel fits the crank what all would need to be put on the bike to make it work, i.e. the CDI unit. I would want to run it without a battery so is there any way this would be feasable, I just thought that it would be a bit more reliable than points. Thanks for any advice you may be able to give me.

  15. The ball plunger/ spring mechanism on my TY175 kick starter is not doing a great job of keeping the kick starter rotated in out of the way when riding. I tried a stronger spring but it is still not great. Is there a way to improve that function? I wonder about deepening the hole that the ball drops into when rotated in but don't know if that would help or make it worse. The fit of the kick-start lever to the shaft it rotates on is not like new but not bad for an old bike. I had a similar issue with a TLR200 but never came up with a good fix.
