On my 349 I need to replace the gearbox bearings, two of which are in blind holes.... I have been told to support the case, behind the bearing, heat the case, and jam in the heads of a couple of large nails under the bearing to lever it out. Anyone got any further tips? Thanks Steve

Hi all, I just wondered if any one knows how to work out the length of spokes needed for a wheel rebuild? I am trying to rebuild a wheel that had a 17`` rim on it. I am now going to try and put an 18`` rim on instead. As the hunt for 17`` trials tyres was proving to be impossible... Many thanks in advance.... Pete.

My Cota 247 is back working again....which is a gas. Still plenty of work to do though....front wheel is buckled and I have another one turning up soon. Shockers are pretty buggered....and new chain & sprockets can't be far away. BUT most pressing problem is that it is just very VERY loud. Problem is that it doesn't have any of the original exhaust silencer beyond the fist pipe. It has got one silencer in the place of the middle box which is from a Suzuki RGV250. Looks good but to all intensive purposes is just a through pipe. I know that Dave Renham has got some original back boxes.....but this bike is anything but original and I am quite happy to build a sile…

Hi everyone. My Dad has bought a Yamaha TY175 and is currently rebuilding it. It looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for about 5 years, so he is cleaning and polishing along the way. He bought it cheap from Ebay, and although it was a runner it was a bit of a mess. To my mind it rode quite well, even with the gearing much too high, slick tires and rock solid rear shocks. We are a puzzled though, because of some of the bits. It has magnesium hubs which (to me) says it might have been a special model, or were these fitted as standard? The side panels are missing, and the exhaust is completely different to the others that we have seen. ON the plus side though it has…

I removed my decent tire off my GG and put it on my 74 ty with a tube. Will it work ok or just s bad idea.Sorta hard to find tube type trials tires these days plus I was trying to save some money.Have considered getting a tubless kit for bike so I can reuse my lightly wore modern tires but not sure what direction to go on this.

Can anyone please help with this one? I recently bought a 247 Cota with engine partially stripped. The engine came with a new piston (to be fitted) which according to the the previous owner is a Bultaco piston. Apparently this can be fitted to the Cota but requires a shim/spacer plate (also supplied with the engine) at the base of the cylinder barrel, presumably because the piston height above the gudgeon pin is different? Anyway, my question is this.....has anyone else fitted a similar piston to a 247 Cota, and if so do you need to install a base gasket top and bottom of the spacer under the cylinder barrel? Hope this makes sense Cheers Simon
