Hi, Just rebuilding a 247 Cota motor and the big end is a plain (bronze) bush. Ive never ever seen this on a 2 stroke engine. I have a new rod kit so I'll put that in, but I wondered if anyone had ever seen a Monty with a plain bush big end....seems strange, maybe the previous owner was trying to save costs or maybe Montesa did this at some stage - anyone know?? I can see how a bushed small end would be OK, as the movement is only through a small range (maybe 20 degrees per revolution) but the big end moves through 360 degrees. Having said that plenty of 4 strokes use shell type bush big ends - but are oil fed... Any comments anyone? many thanks Stu

I've been writing up some of my bike projects (SWM's mainly) over the last 18 months or so and have recently migrated it to a new service provide and activated the twinshock.org.uk domain. I've been mainly using the hungerstone.net monicker up to now, but with the change it will be easier for other people to now come on board and contribute information on their twinshock projects and trials events If you want to participate or have any comments then drop me an email or visit the site

Is it possible that the grip on modern trials bikes is wildly superior to my 247? I'm WAY out of practice, and was never too good to begin with....but this 247 has a brand new pair of Dunlops and I was slipping ALL OVER...in every situation...going across gentle hillsides the front tire was washing out...everything. Was my Sherco really THAT much better?

i am considering entering this event next year ( sort of a holiday away from the wife and kids!) and wondered if anybody could give me any info on the event. do people camp? or stay behind the grandstand? a couple of guys i have chatted to at local trials have done it on pre 65 bikes that cost a small fortune, but they both said it was very enjoyable. i was looking more to ride the easy course on a twin shock (ty175). the bike is rebuilt and rides nice but any pointers on the bike front would be helpfull as well. i dont want to win but to have a good few days with like minded people, so is this the right event? thanks for any info/advice. paul.

I've got an OSSA TR77 that i'm doing up at the moment and it's a 250. Got no carb on it but i have a Bing off a 350 TR77 so i was going to fit that. Just wondering if anybody knew the jet sizes for the 250 as i assume they are possibly smaller than the ones for the 350 ? also the carb is leaking petrol. Now i thought it was flooding but after stripping and turning upside down the float needle seems to be sealing ok when i blow through the fuel pipe and there doesnt seem to be any fuel in the float which would normally indicate a punctured float. The float needle valve doesnt seem to be worn either. So only other thing i can think of is the gasket for the float bowl. Are t…

Just bought two 1981 cota 200's which have been sitting idle in a barn for a couple years and I was wondering if anyone can tell me the volume and correct type of engine oil to use? Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi there! I have recently completed a rebuild of a 1972 247 Cota. The bike is now running well and I even managed to resurrect my worn out Amal carb by replacing just about everything!! The only problem I have now, is that occasionally the kickstart slips when kicking the bike over. The engine was in good running condition when I got the bike, so apart from the top end, it has not been stripped. Before I start stripping the engine, I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on what causes this and the cure.

Is anyone able to get onto the Tongham Tigers MCC website? http://www.tonghamtigers.co.uk/ Trying to get some info on Sunday's twinshock round, rider list, times etc, which appears to be jointly organised by DOT Owners MC and Tongham. Haven't found anything yet, I can't get past the home page of Tongham's website and it's been like that for a couple of days. The entry form is from DOT Owners MC and says entry list will be on their website but I can't see that they have one Regards Tongham's, I don't know if it's their website that's the problem or my browser or PC firewall Anyone else able to get on it? Don't really want to pester the secretary as they're probably bus…

Hi I am considering changing the footpegs on my 1980 cota 349 to the more modern wider level style as I am finding myself slipping off the original angled pegs in the mud with my flat sole boots! The original pegs are mounted on a lug which is brazed onto the frame so the S3 type pegs will not fit as they need to be open ended with a wider gap to fit either side of the lug, I don't really want to modify the frame so I was hoping someone out there may have some advice? From what I have seen on this forum the later 349s and MH's with the later frame design have a different set up which allows the use of S3s or have they been modified?

  20. As I said in the title I’m looking to upgrade the shocks on my 61 tiger cub. I’ve seen tons of trials builds on tiger cubs and they look great, but I’m not too interested in doing trials (nowhere even near me to do them). I don’t know an insane amount about bikes, just enough to keep mine running, but what weight shocks would I need for a bike that I rip around on trails every other weekend with? I used to spend a lot of time doing motocross and just want something that I can do similar things with, I already have a heavy weight fork but I’ve seen trials suspension be only 40-50 pounds while some motocross shocks hit 70. So what do you guys think? tl;dr I want to bui…
