Twinshock

I am struggling with gear selection and wonder if the "spidery washer on the cam assembly is in the correct position. Also is there a setting for the selector arms? (second pic) Ignore lack of circlips as just put on for pic.

Ello peeps. I have just watched this ty250 go through on ebay. The petrol tank looks different to all the others i have seen. Is it different? It looks to have a larger capacity. Or am I just an idiot who doesnt know what he's talking about?

Just purchased this old girl off ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160309486913 and its a nice little runner after de-seizing the throttle valve and carb clean etc but my question is why does a 493 ty have a S bend type stand instead of the straight type ? Dave

Hello to all, Not sure where to ask this question, though twinshock seems to be the obvious place. I have an old Yam TY250 Twinshock, it`s not run since 1992. I started it as a project something to tinker with, put it to the back the shed and now I wish to have a play on it. I took the somewhat knackered chain off and i`ve thown it away without counting how many links that I need to replace it. 520 is what was on it, how many links do you think i`ll need...? Reading through a lot of posts i`ll not be buying Iris as it seems they snap, any other suggestion would be welcome. Circlip

Can anyone please tell me the correct amount of oil & grade required for the forks on a Yamaha TY250 twinshock. These are the straight leg forks with 34mm diameter stanchions.

Haven,t been on a bike all year until yesterday.I rode the 199a first and then the Ty250A in the backyard in a small area.I,m not a very good trials rider to start with so I was just practicing some tight turns and going over logs.I haven,t ridden the 199 much,maybe three times,but it was easier to do all of it on the TY. Does that seem right or does it mean I,m just more use to the trusty TY? I did finally do it all with feet up on the 199,but it took quite a few laps around the course.I had about an hour inbetween,then hopped on the TY and did it first time and kept doing it feet up.Just my novice observation I guess,but the TY seems easier to ride for someone like m…

Hi all. I am in the process of restoring one of the earliest Ty's and need an original second hand carb for it. The motor runs with the carb currently on it (not the right one) but is not running properly. No get up and go, bad acceleration and very very bad performance on full throtle. Any ideas where I can get one? or if someone has one they want to part with, please let me know how much. Thanks

Hi Just want some idea of the value of the bikes above. Both start and run. The Yam not so well as I have not touched it for about 6 months but looks good and could do with a tune. The Ital is in very good condition, no rattles, plenty of power and it still has the original tires, Michellin, in excellent condition. I am thinking of listing them on Ebay. I have three other bikes (Montesas) and as I am getting on I just can't find the time to give them all a good run. What do you reckon would be a reasonable price to expect? The bikes are located in Australia. Thanks for any advice.

Hi All I have a ty250a with the piston stamped 25. Does anyone know if that is the first oversize? Also trying to remove the cylinder, one of the recessed bolts has been nicely rounded by a previous owner. Any ideas on how to get it off please? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi all I recently posted a message about the old TY I am restoring. As some of you may know I managed to find an original carb for it on ebay (TK) I cleaned it it all up and came up superb. Installed it and to my dissapointment the bike still has no whoomph. The number of the motor is 434-008250 so I am pretty certain it is an A model (You experts out there correct me if I am wrong) The bike starts first kick every time, seems to have some power down low, but when you hit the throttle, just wont rev right up. I suspect that I may need new rings ( they have not been changed in about 25 years and I also thought the timing could be out. What should the timing be set BT…

I live in a pretty out of the way spot - great for riding but lousy for accessing gear. With the upcoming Queens Birthday long weekend one of my sons was coming down from Brisbane and looking forward to some fun on my TLR. Driving down tomorrow (Friday) morning and Murphy's law kicks in and Thursday morning I discovered that the front tyre on my Cota is flat - it's a very old tyre could even be 1976 original! So trying to get the tyre to lift over the rim - it just falls apart on the lever. Nearest big town = Coffs Harbour - population 60,000 no tyres. Hi i have a problem with an irc tyre on a fantic wheel.I fitted the tube type tyre just after buying the bike ,the problem is that the tyre turns on the rim i have tried new tyre clamps but it is still the same.I have another bike with fantic wheel and irc with no problems so not sure if it could be worn rim or faulty tyre.Has anyone had this problem with irc tyres.

I was wondering what everyone was doing for rear tyres. I have been told the tube type michelin has been discontinued, is this true or not. I have a tubeless 36 spoke morad rim but am resisting using it as I would like to keep the bike looking period correct. I can get IRC tube type rears, but was concerned they might not stay on the rim, the bike is a bultaco with akront rims. Cheers Greg

I have trawled the archive, but not found quite what I need. I need to replace the tubed tyres on my Ossa MAR, but need something properly road legal. From reading the other threads it seems like Michelin are the only option, though not their radial. I've looked on the Michelin website though they don't list this one, so which should I be buying? Ta
