Long time reader 1st time poster !! Im looking at buying a 70s-80s twinshock trials I did ride a montesa 248 and 200 25 years + ago and then a long lay off I have had a couple of bikes over the last couple of years i have tried my hand at pre 65 with a bsa B40 but I struggled with it had lots of issues with the bsa and lost confidence in using it I struggled to find grip and I couldn't start it !!!!! I'm looking to re start riding trials I know I'm never going to be competitive but I want to enjoy myself I don't want a modern mono I would prefer to ride a modern classic I ride a twinshock air cooled road bike So here's my question I have about

Am looking at purchasing the Pirelli MT43 tire for my vintage Ossa. Was wondering what would be a suitable match for the front. Also, may sound stupid, but how important is the front tire, as far as performance and $ are concerned? You can spend $25.00 - $100.00, for a front tire. Just curious what you folks think.

Can anyone tell me the best oil to put in my TLR 250 please? Some joker told me shell ultra synthetic was the thing but the clutch slips like mad. Ta Mick

I have just purchased a Montesa 348 which appears to be fitted with a Dellorto VHBZ carb as opposed to the original (i believe) Amal. This got me wondering, how interchangeable carbs are and how does changing the carb change the behaviour of the bike? Any knowledge of this subject would be of interest as the previous owner purchased the carb off of ebay and I am wondered if a different carb would change the characteristics of the bike.

Hi there, i am new to the sport and this forum, and need a bit of help: i have a 1975 ty175, and rode it the other day for the first time for a couple of hours. The engine didn't like to idle and kept stalling, which made steep descents difficult. I was low on fuel, and the problem doesn't seem to occur when the engine is cooler and just off choke. Is it just lack of 'pressure' from low fuel or something else? Also another elementary question - does the 'search' thing work on this? it keeps telling me i am using banned words (and i am not...i don't think!) cheers for your help

Hi Guys Although I specifically want some new levers for my 1974 TY250 I thought it made more sense to ask in here as it is a more generic question What levers would you recommend ? I currently have some VERY nasty generic ones on the bike and need to change them asap Also do all the trials levers on the market accept the same size cable barrels ? Thanks in advance for any help

Evening all,its been bothering me since Sunday that I did the first lap of a trial for 1 dab.That dab was a silly one,and I thought the next three laps I ought to clean it,(and hopefully the rest of the trial.) but stared to slowly lose marks 1/2 way through the second lap.I must of finished on about 12 or 15,still really enjoyed it and I started feeling tired during the last lap.I was in a good relaxed frame of mind,no booze and an early night before.Since I've started riding the A route I've started to take it all a bit more seriously,and Sunday's ride really made me think.I was able to do the sections but not for four laps,OK maybe if I was a bit fitter then the last l…

Hi folks...help! Last couple of events i've done, bike has started fine when cold...out the garage. But during the day, when i've stopped and switched off between sections its pig to restart. I notice i hear a loud electrical 'crack' when it fires from cold, and never get the same later during the day. when i hear the crack it inevitably starts. When running its fine, usually ticks over though occasionally dies on tick over when hot. I am definitely no expert so any explanations please keep simple. Many thanks Jim - with sore right leg...

Just wondering if any of you folks across the pond (besides Steve Saunders) have used the new to the market Maxton trials shocks ? I've heard that they are the best out there , bar none ... Been offered a Cota 247 1978......up on its toes, easy starter, good compression and running ok, sound clutch, no dragging....tidy but unrestored. I could trial this bike next weekend....if ya fussy yes you would strip n tart her up. I've had a short ride on flat grass and feels small and well balanced. What is the form on these old war horses? I know nothing about them....are spares still an issue....is there the equivalent of the most fantastic 'Mr SWM' Mr Matthews behind early Cota's offering support 'n spares? Probably been asked loads of times but... Got the trials bug again after a long absence, have a 5 year old beta evo I've just started riding again but the twinshock scene is pretty decent where I live so want to get a competitive twin shock, got a budget of £2k but looks like the bikes I'm after won't come in at that budget! Was after a fantic or ty175 but both look over my budget, have seen a few ty250 for around £1500, which are about a grand cheeper than the fantics or ty175's, are the 250's that much worse?! Or shud I just stump up the extra grand? Or are there any other alternatives out there for a competetive twinshock?

The Seeley needs some shocks. I saw an old thread on the subject where folk were singing the praises for Falcons. I was reading in the Classic dirtbike mag today NJB now do a Trikshock. There is a tenner difference between the two. The bloke at Falcon builds em to order depending on your weight etc and can make em up using a MX piston which makes the bike feel more like a mono apparently. Any thoughts ??? Tyre discussions appear never ending but that is probably due to the continued variation in costs. My TLR 200 has I think the original dual purpose block pattern (can't remember that make and it's raining too heavy to check) The old tyre is hard and cracked so I guess it's time to replace it. I have Michelins on my Cota 247 and it does ride nicely but when I inherited the TLR I never envisaged it would be as competent as it is and so I went for a VeeRubber tubeless on the rear - what a bugger to fit that was - but it has given me no problems and good wear running around 7 psi. I was marking a board at the local mid wales trial yesterday and after seeing what must have been a million Gas Gas's come through and couple of guys on twin shocks came through...one was a Ossa with some very trick looking yokes, billet type alloy jobs, looked like the Scorpa ones...all in all a very sweet sounding and good looking bike. The next was a TL125 which again sounded very sweet, that had a very nice alloy tank sprayed blue and silver, both bikes really took my eye!. My point being now I can see why these boys must spend what must be a huge amount of money on old bikes.....there was more folk looking at these bikes than all of the rest put togethor, it was gr…
