Pre-65 Bikes

Bit of a long shot really, I'm in the process of making a Bantam from wheel fit into a pair of 4 bolt BSA forks. The spindle diameter is too small for the forks, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the bearing sizes and brake plate nut thread for a spindle that used the 4 bolt forks ?

Hi all, anyone know where I can get any magnesium engines case covers for a C15, I very seen a few on bikes and just wondered if I could get my hands on any? Thanks

Any tips on the best in line oil filter to use on a C15? Also do I put in on the feed or return oil pipe? Thanks

I did manage to hold off for 2 months before thinking about starting another :-) I fancy building a unit BSA, so what's the best frame to get? I have a BSA B40 running tiger cub wheels could anyone please tell me when they do the conversion do they use the B40 chain and sprocket or the tiger cub? It's running a DID428 chain. Many thanks

I have come across a BSA motorcycle that the current owner believes is a mid 60' BSA MX motorcycle. It is almost all there (in boxes of course) how do I tell which model it was? I believe the engine is a 441 from my limited BSA knowledge. The tank is alloy with a Blue stripe, seat looks like a trials seat. No lights or indication it ever had lights. Did BSA make a trials bike in that era? I am looking for a 60's vintage BSA/ Triumph/ AJS for vintage competition. Has any done a BSA MX to trials conversion? Does it make sense? Hello, My first post in the 'Pre-65' Section!! I'm in the process of 're-framing' my trusty C15T into one of Howard Fawkes OTTER Frames. I bought the frame about 4 years ago and due to the purchase of my first house things got a little delayed!! Now hard back into the build I was wondering if owners of similars OTTER Framed machines could post some pictures for me. Just collected my C15 back from Rupert Ratio,(AKA Dave Smith) its a Sportsman motor in a Victor GP type frame.I took it apart last summer to change the box ratio's to WD B40 ones,which were supplied by Dave. He had all the bits I needed,was well chuffed.Brought them back,shoved them under the bike in a box and nothing happened.Typical... Then a little while ago I had the brainwave to call Dave and ask him to sort it out for me. Which he has done,very quickly and for a very reasonable sum, he has rebuilt the gearbox, sorted out the clutch and various other bits like fitting a valve lifter arm after rebushing the rocker box and remembering to fit the camplate upside down s…

Hi All, i am in the process of building myself a unit construction BSA either C15G or WD B40 for trials, my question is simply this. how essential is the Wide ratio box. I have a C15G, which has the standard road box in it, unfortunately the B40 GB motor i bought has had the Wide ratio gears robbed and a stub tooth B25, B44 road box in it, i was assured on buying the motor it was a standard B40GB with the wide ratio box, unfortunately the owner got his facts wrong, he has offered to have it back but for what I paid I would sooner keep it. unfortunately a Wide Ratio box is going to cost in the region of £300, which is alot of money to me. I have just been offered a bsa b40 by a guy at work. Its not in bad nick, but is in road spec. Can anybody tell me what needs to be done to make it into a half descent pre-65 mount. Please bear in mind that I dont need a ultra trick comp winning bike, as it would never win anything with me on it anyway, just a descent clubman hack. Thanks Mark

Hi hope this is the correct place to post this , I would like to try trials and am thinking of doing a experience day with inch perfect trials. I also own a Bantam which I want to convert to mild off / on road use nothing too serious ( I would buy a trials bike for that ) and daylight mot. Ideally something I could use on green lanes and maybe pay and play places as I have a couple near me. What would be the minimum must have mods, mudguards etc seem straight forward, It's fitted with heavyweight front forks. I'm guessing folding pegs, kick-start lever etc but how about wheels? I know I can fit a cub rear swingarm to fit a wider tyre but is there a rear wheel of choice…

I recently purchased a cub to convert into trials trim. I am trying to decide what is the best route to go with for the front end. The bike I have has the heavyweight front end on it. I have read about putting modern internals into the heavyweight forks. I think this may be the way I would like to go with the bike so it looks period correct anyhow. Does anybody have any idea of which parts I neeed to source to make this conversion or a idea how to do it. I have a very good machinist down the street so maching down the legs should not be a problem. Maybe there is someone in the USA doing this conversion? Cheers matt

Guys I was thinking of starting a wee project for the winter , ive got a spare crusader frame , and wondered if the bullet in crusader frame is fairly straight forward , the ones ive seen look like the frame has been fairly unchanged , but any advise or tips on starting from scratch would be great thanks greg

Many years of collecting and riding Bultacos means my father and I have number of relined/rebuilt Sherpa wheels, the later type single sided not full width. we are currently building a couple of Pre-65 C15 trials bikes that we hope to compete on in the Pre-65, Pre-67, Pre-70 what ever the class is that the all the other C15's on the day are entered into. the engines are C15G, so 1966ish, they will hopefully have B25 Alloy barrels fitted. One will be in a Drayton frame, one will be in a modified WD B40 frame, both will have forks with spindle mounted underneath, not leading axle. We normally ride in the south and south west ACU and AMCA, if we fitted the Sherpa wheels…

Hi, Will try to seal my Burman 4speed ~95%(for AJS/Matchless 1949). Outside cover, replace bushes, for kickstart- and gearlever axles, with shorter ones to make room for modern seals. Have any one of you done a similar mod on gearboxes that requires grease/oil mix? Final sprocket axle is allready sealed, hope its possible to replace it with a modern one. Faces, well I dont know if fibre gaskets are available, either special order or instead use some brand bond or blue, orange loctite, no leaks..;-) Cant see why not single- or multi grade could work after this improvement.
