Pre-65 Bikes

Got the Sprite and had a first ride on it yesterday. Feels surprisingly modern. The frame has obviously been quite well modified to alter the steering angle, it does steer very well. The engine feels lively and it seems to find grip pretty well. I'm surprised how light it is.I'm quite chuffed.

hi all Think my thread title says it all - just need a bit of positive input from those in the know. VERY original proper trials version of the royal enfield crusader. I had every intention of lovingly restoring it to acceptable competetive riding condition - not to show or molly coddle. However I have been tempted by another project which is more suitable for myself. This crusader is complete and bought as a runner, though I have not even put petrol in and tried it as yet. It has new dunlops and chain and was last ridden in anger 2 years ago. Was considering putting it on fleabay but would really appreciate some rough idea of what price to expect or buy it now p…

Can anyone suggest a reason why it would be a bad idea to chop the down tube on a cub frame and replace with a thick sumpgaurd (as in how the upb and armac design frames are configured). Obviously id have to keep the frame straight while attempting this operation. I would hopefully have a 5mm pre formed alloy bash plate made and replace bottom of downtube with this, can anyone suggest any downfallls pitfalls to this operation.

  5. Started by old bones,

I have two wide swinging arms for my cub and have been riding with the one that is an inch (25mm) longer than the standard, If I change to the shorter standard length how would that effect the steering, i.e. would I be able to turn tighter with the standard one. I hope someone can advise as it would save me a bit of work changing only to find its worse? Any thoughts would be great.

Hi Ive covered rim size on a previous post, but thought I would ask the remaing (at the moment) questions in one go 1 - Sprocket size Its a 4 speed engine - unsure of any internal gearing changes. What the best combination of sprocket sizes ? Also- chain, 428 ? 2 - Wheel offet Im about to get new rims built onto bantam hubs Rear (using a widened swinging arm and engine offset 8mm) - I think needs no offset ? Front - I think 6mm offset to brake side ? 3 - Chain tensioner Any advice on best type ? may think of more ! cheers John

Anyone know what you need for a day time MOT? I know you don't need lights or indicators, but presume you need stop light and speedo?

hi guys, just wondering about the alloy mufflers a lot of pre65 bikes use....you know the elongated diamond type, has anyone any idea what the baffle arrangment (if any) is in these? i am guessing the inlet and outlet pipes stick well into the 'can' so that the gas has to double back to get to the outlet pipe.....are the pipes perforated any, or just plain. reccon charlie will know the answer as he's built most things to do with the old 4 strokes. cheers trev.

I have a top mount distributor T20 motor 1955. Are the differences with the side points type motor before I start machining on my motor for PVL etc. Is there any benefit to the later side points motor. Would be interested to hear your comments on this.

What is the performance difference between a std cam & an R cam when fitted to a 199cc Cub. If the R cam is used do you need to fit stronger valve springs. Also engine, gearbox & rear wheel sprockets, I thought of going with 17t engine, 13t gearbox & 60 or 62 rear wheel on 420 chain, does a wider size chain catch or rub around the gearbox sprocket area. Which is the best Carb to use I am told the Del-Orto 22mm is very good is this correct.

  15. Has anyone any photos they could place here on TC of the Spanish made bikes that were ridden in this years P65 Scottish Trial.
