Pre-65 Bikes

Hi, I'm new to bantams and are looking for a bit of advice. I have a bantam b175 trials bike that I have just bought as a non runner,I started by checking the points and timing, I could not get the timing correct and took off the points cam as it seemed to be in the wrong position to get the timing correct. The cam fits on a taper but there does not seem to be any way of holding it in the right place, there is a small groove in the back of the cam but nothing on the crank for it to slot on. Should there be a peg or something for it to fit on? I would be grateful if anyone could offer any help. Thanks Alan.

Hi I am new to the site & to trials too, though have built from scratch many British Frame based specials over the years. I have a couple of old Bantams, one based on a 69/70 B175 Bushman,which has been Trialled for 2 or 3 years, t'other is a D10 engined D7 & its gonna be a Trials style road runabout! I have a friend who is going to rebuild the Wheels for me shortly, & for the rear I wondered if anyone could advise what offset from central to have the rear wheels laced. I have 4.00 x 18" rear Trials Tyres, & was intending to use WM3 Rims, though it has been said that WM2 Rims should be used? I have some thicker rear engine plates from Rex Caunt Racing,…

I know this isnt the exact thread for this bike but i thought that some one on here may be able to help me.?? I got a 1976 Suzuki TS250A engine stripped down in boxes and got a 1977 TS250 frame. im looking to rebuild the bike using the above but i noticed that the 1977 frame has two diagonal bars (side by side) going from steering head to bottom of frame and the 1976 frame which i have an engine out of has a single down pipe from steering head. Does anyone know if the 1976 engine will go into the 1977 frame ???????? Im worried about the exhaust manifold hitting the down pipes.

Hi, just had Alan Whitton work his magic on some old Long Roadholders and some not so old 'zocchis.. I'd like to use gaiters to keep the stanchions in good nick and I want them to look pleasing to my eye too. Anyone know offhand which ones will fit nicely to the 35mm and also the top of the Roadholders? I want them to be a relatively fine 'pitch', ones in pics I've seen have about 15 'teeth' if you know what I mean, I'm really not keen on the coarse ones with about 8 'teeth' Ta very much

Will a factory supplied Triumph Tiger Cub swing arm fit into a BSA Bantam frame please, after a quick answer as can't find a Cub frame at right price but have found a Bantam one, thanks.

Hi from Spain: I own this Pre-65 bike with a Villiers engine. Some days ago the piston blocked because it was overheated (a hot spanish day). When te engine cooled down a little it started again with no problems. Now sometimes the piston blocks for an instant. The piston looks ok, as well as the inside of the cylinder and the rings. Is there anibody that knows why and how can I stop this??? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, Apart from the standard black plastic like inlet manfolds you can get from places like InMotion does anyone know of any other type available? I suffered a bit with heat transfer to the carb and was trying to understand what options there are out there.

Do all the Jackson Ariel frames have the oil filler on the side of the frame, or did some have it on the down pipe similar to the Bartram frames?

Sorry if this is a bit off topic... I'm in the middle of a build,not really even a trials bike,its an ex Army B40 frame with a B44 round barrel motor. I'm using four bolt forks and a 6" conical BSA/Triumph front hub.All shiny and smart, except brake shoes are rocking horse poo. Mark Cook of CCM Britain or PES apparently made some new billet ones which I'd like to buy.Been calling on the phone,leaving messages and have emailed as well.No response... Any suggestions, the parts are stacking up and it's close to me needing to nail it all together.The idea is a trail bike or long distance trials nail.

Good evening folks. Just acquired a BSA Bantam for a bit of a project, I am told its 175cc and wondered if anyone had any information as I've no experience of these machines. The frame is a D7 and engine is a D143. The bike is complete although rusted and I am hoping to get new rims (originals beyond repair) and sort out the forks which are rusted solid. Any information on the bike and where to get spares such as rims, spokes, forks and any other information would be appreciated. Thanks. Eiger.

hello all, please help me with my decision. i want an old british long distance trials (LDT) (or reliability trials as they were called back in the day) bike, not too worried about super trials ability. but should have reasonable road manners and able to cruse along at about 50mph (or close as possible). so would a 175cc 2 stroke be better than a 200cc 4 stroke?? i dont really want a full on trials bike more like a pre 65 green lane bike that i can do some LDT's on or should i be looking at something like a royal enfield 350cc 4s, james captin 200cc 2s an ariel or something completely different. please dont say an xr400, thats what i will be selling to fund this proje…

hi all, after finish my c15 will get pics soon, i was sat in the shed today thinking what now?? i thought a bantam would be good i had about 7 when i was 14 but sold them so i got another tonight well parts lol, 3 frames tank engine in millions of bits half missing! but i do not want to rush this project, i have the c15 to play on so i am in no rush but i am in two frames off mind weather to build a bantam trials with a modded frame?? or put it in my rigid frame with girder forks?? its not a bantam one but it has been made to fit bantam engine, so people should i build the bantam into a swing arm or go and put it in the rigid with girders??? any help would be good if any…

I have had a disaster with an experimental bearing I had intended for use on a C15. I wanted to replace the timing bush with something more robust and opted to machine the inner and outer bearing components to fit a needle roller. It was with the assistance of this forum that I managed to get the bearing over from the US. Everything was fine until the machinist took about 8thou too much off of the outer bearing case (and for some reason shortened it to the same width as the bearing) making it unuseable. All the other components, inner sleeve, bearing and thrust washers are perfect. I can only find complete items with the sleeve bush in place at
