Pre-65 Bikes

Hi, I have a 32A engine with a light clutch which doesn't slip or drag but I ride a lot of modern trials and would like the clutch to be smoother rather than on/off. Can anyone help please? There must be better springs, plates, baskets etc. or even, heaven forbid, a more modern clutch. Am I asking too much from my bike as it's pretty good? I only use 6 springs. Any recommendations for the best soldering iron to make up cables? I've been struggling with a gas torch which is just simply to hot. Also any hints on the best solder to use?

I'm recreating the bike my Dad built for me in the 60's I have a standard bantam 18 incch rear wheel currently fitted with a 3 inch road tyre my question is will this rim accept a 4 inch wide tyre or do I go for a 3.5 tyre. Swing Arm is a Triumph factory trials wide.

hi there this is my first post, fairly new to this site, finding it very interesting, anyway just bought a competition ex mod c15 b40 frame with a year date 1965 to replace my road framed altered c15 1961 frame ,with a c15t engine fitted trials bike .it as cub or late bantam hubs fitted, having trouble with rear wheel seems like spindle needs more length maybe inch each side .do any body do a different size spindle . think ive sorted front end just need to use b25 bearing races with my original front end?any info would be helpfull cheers

Hello there chaps i have not long this bike and i was told when i bought it that it had trials compition history in the UK. Would anyone be able to shed any light on this with any results or pictures. Im new to the bike scene and i bought this great bike off a guy in essex who was pleased to see it go to someone young with an intrest in old bikes! Any help will be a great help!

On christmas eve I got my january tax demand, merry f*c*en christmas from the chancellor. Today I got my entry for the pre 65, there is a god after all.

I'm putting together a simple C15 for trials. The existing carb is a monoblock 376/ 258 and under the dirt/ cobwebs appears serviceable. I believe but am not sure that it has a 1 1/16" choke. Should this be adequate for trials? If it makes a difference, the engine has the standard cam and 40-441 head. (big valve - 11/16" choke per the RR book) The other option at hand is a 22mm TLR200 carb but the mounting is different.

Hi, I have a 1961 BSA C15 with an Amal MK1 carb. The bike runs ok but you have to be very gentle when you open the throttle from tickover or it will stall and it is a bit lumpy on 1/4 throttle. The carb is a 622. 3 1/2 slide. needle on middle groove. 110 main jet. 105 needle jet. Pilot air screw about 3/4 turns out. Pilot bush fitted, I believe this is a 25. The plug is black, not wet and never fouls (touch wood) Will be grateful for any advice or opinions. Cheers.

Hi All, finally managed to scrape together the pennies for a basic Ariel, very different from the Bultacos, i normally ride. my sincerest thanks so far to John Bartram and JonV8 for the advice and guidance so far. The bike is an early Bartram frame, with a 1958 motor, interspan converted mag and Burman Box GB47, standard 500cc motor. as I am still recovering from the purchase and funds are tight (I could have bought 4 bultacos for i paid for one Ariel) I am trying to do the bare minimum to make it rideable in a trial. currently it is unrideable, carb worn out, and gearing way to high, bald back tyre, sadly it also running on Castrol R at present, not the best apart f…

Hi all, I did the Sam Cooper road trial yesterday and towards the end of the trial the engine was sounding terrible, but after letting it cool down for a while it got better and then the noise would return as soon as it warmed up. From cold the engine runs fantastic, no noises at all, it only makes the noise when it's hot. I think it must be related to heat and wondered if there any specific things to look out for. To be honest I had a similar issue with an alloy barrel on a BSA where the liner would move when the engine got hot. I had to get a space made so the head pressed against the line preventing it from banging into the head. The top hat stopped the lin…

In the process of building a pre 65 two stroke, never did get on that well with 4 strokes, so all i need now is a Villiers 32a or 37a engine. Anybody got one spare? Not bothered about the condition as i expect to have to replace the bearings etc anyway. Just dont want any holes or cracks. So can anybody help?

Now firstly sorry to post this in this section but i respect the advice and opinions of the contributors. I have just bought a new NZI carbon fibre helmet from Sammy Millers to use when riding the B40 in local Pre 65 trials as i understand helmets are now compulsary. On opening the box i noticed the helmet didnt have an ACU gold sticker. Didnt have any ACU sticker to be precise. Rang Sammy Miller and they said that was right that the helmets are not ACU approved but that this shouldnt be a problem. Now in your opinion and experience is this so? I would have assumed that Sammy Millers being a major trials specialist should not be selling items that are not suitable for…

Out on the bike today and my C15 was struggling with the mud clogging the front sprocket. Fortunately I don't ride in mud too much but on a few occasions that I do the issue with the front sprocket clogging causes the bike to snatch(chain jumping sprocket??),is there a way off keeping mud out the sprocket.I have an extension on the bottom of the mudguard going past the swingarm pivot.Any ideas?? cheers the noo Brian
