SSDT Chat

Such a popular event it deserves it's own forum!

Hi On re-building my 1971 Bultaco M80 slimline I'm re-discovering some dabs of grey paint that I take to be seals from the Scottish. I'm assuming that this bike was ridden in the 1972 Scottish by Karl Rowbotham from Kidderminster. Can anyone confirm (or otherwise) that:- 1) Grey seals were used in 1972. 2) If not, a year when grey seals were used. 3) Karl Rowbotham rode a 244cc Bultaco in the 1972 SSDT and his number. 4) Any pics would be more than fabulous. Thanks in anticipation. Kind Regards Sparks

As it says on the tin, I am thinking of taking the road bike thru to watch, have never been before and don't even know where to start going tbh. I'm coming from Dundee, so thru Glencoe, and will only be holiday Monday I can make it, so should I just head in to Kinlochleven and walk places from there or is there any tips on where to go and watch ??? Thanks in advance

So after Albert Cabestany's visit last year will he return and try and win the centenary of the event ? will Dougie drag Raga over to ride ? Raga rode in 1999 or 2000 I beleive Fajardo has also ridden before and wouldnt it look good for Ossa to win the centenary at its first attempt in its new form Fuji would enjoy the moors but would Montesa relent and allow him to ride even if he wanted to ? Would make for a fascinating week, the brits could still win even if the above showed up based on last year. any body know if any of the world stars are intending to ride ?

1st, thank you guys. Amazing forum you have here, I'm into reading for few days now. Lots of useful information. I'm thinking going the SSDT next year. My goal is to enjoy the event and to try to pass it nicely. Not competing with anyone beside myself. My Trial skill are novice+. I used to compete in Europe 10 years back on Scorpa easy 280 with Sneezy team (Eddy Moermans) from Belgium (are they still running?), and I even went 2 times to compete in the "4 days of Crouse" in south of France. I believe I have the endurance for the SSDT, after finishing twice the ISDE (Chile 2007 and Mexico 2010) and the Baja 1000 solo rider (23 hours straight). Can I reach my goals? I d…

Can I ask a simple question ? How do you get involved in helping out at the SSDT ? i.e. Observing/Marshalling/general helping out with the event ? Who do you see, speak to, what manner can someone help out etc etc. So many questions

I urgently need high resolution digital or scanned photos of riders in the 1970's 80's 90's. I only really need one from each decade but would like a choice. They would ideally be in landscape and show the riders face as well as the bike, sections and ideally a little background. If you can help please PM me and I'll supply a email address. These must be copyright free as they will be used in one of my videos. Cheer John

Hopefully you will have read elsewhere about the trialscentral.com part on the ben and charity auction during the upcoming UK world rounds at Nevis Range. The Edinburgh and District Club have donated a bunch of stuff but the BIG news is they have offered a guaranteed and fully paid entry to the 2011 SSDT. This has a face value of

  11. Those of you in Scotland will be only too aware of the Suzanne Pilley murder enquiry that is ongoing at the moment. For those of you who don't know, investigations have led police to Glen Croe and the Rest And Be Thankful on the A83, to the north west of Loch Lomond. They're appealing to any SSDT enthusiasts who may have been in the area on Wednesday 5th May....our route didn't go anywhere near there, but there will have been quite a few folk on the road during the week, so if you were anywhere near that area on the Wednesday, please take a couple of minutes to check out our article on www.ssdt.org. Thanks!

I was hoping but now that we would have seen a report from Bert regarding his SSDT adventure. I'd love to read what he has to say about his first attempt and if he's going to repeat it. I spoke to him on Thursday and he was enjoying it but I also heard he was shocked by the moor crossing distances.

No not the 2011 routes a bit early for that! This year I toured around the trial with my little friend GPS. It doubled up as a speedo stopwatch and I am sure there was a horn in there some place as well. Well what am I getting at, the device has recorded all the routes for the week and I have just finished downloading them onto Garmin conect where they can then be viewed on google maps and earth. Further to this it gives all my information for each day speeds, altitude etc etc....... the times are a bit vague because I had to start it running during my 30 mins maint. time in the morning. Here is Mondays route let me know if it works and if people want more I will upl…

Dougie's comeback ride has obviously been one of many highlights of this year's event, but I was wondering does anybody know what was the problem with Dougie's bike on Monday that caused such a loss of time ? - saw a vid on youtube of him trying to kick it into life, then wheeling it away, Then what happened ? presumably he carries a spare plug, wonder how it was fixed, whatever it was.

Apologies if this has already been posted. Caby has a daily blog running on his web site and is running with a helmet cam during the 6 day. Already a couple of clips from Scotland as he gets ready for the off. http://www.albertcabestany.com/
