Hi I have had my entry accepted through the ballot for this years six day. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what clothing is best to wear? Your help would be really helpful.

I and my brother walked the 6 miles up to loch eilde cottage for the two subs on wednesday. ( cottage is a bit grand its a semi derelict , mostly derelict building at the far end of the loch probably used by those that dammed the loch in 1916-18) the weather was fine until the first riders arrived. refueling first at the fuel tent manned by two wet desert rats.. At that time the winds were approx. 30mph and the rain was HEAVY. the three observers were huddled in a portable fishing bothy and had two of the easiest sections of the trial to observe. they ran consequteively and were about 40 yards in length total with a rise of 8 -10 feet in total. from my experince the…

Leanachan has always been well-known amongst trials riders, and in recent years the fame of the area has spread with the introduction of a variety of world-class downhill and cross-country cycling routes, not to mention the impending arrival of the world trials scene in June 2010. All of this means that there is a lot more traffic on the Forestry Commission tracks around Leanachan these days, which will be particularly noticeable during SSDT week when the first day of the trial falls on the May Day bank holiday Monday. the guys that I ride with all use Hebo auxilliary fuel tanks fitted behind their front number plates. This gives us extra range when out on the moors. I didn't notice anyone using one in the SSDT and wondered if they are not permitted by the trial regulations. Anyone know?

I was just out (twice) with full prep backpack / Camelback and it's HEAVY! As with a lot of the bigger trials the entries are by ballot. Is everyone in the ballot? are there seeded riders? Who's in and who's out. As always all the well known names are on the first list. Imagine Lampkin or someone like on the reserve list and not getting in. Would this be possible? Is the system a fair one? I've no axe to grind, just something I've been thinking about. Well in todays paper they are thinking of moving the first Bank Holiday in May to October and calling it 'Trafalger Day' or 'UK Day'? I am sure this will have an impact for the SSDT? Some spectators make the first weekend a long weekend taking in the Pre'65 and the Monday's sections before heading South only using 1 days holiday entitlement. I am sure some riders with family holidays booked in the Summer are glad of the Bank Holiday as they save a day only using 4 days. I know with my work our entitlement is C**p so if it is moved other holidays may take preference over the SSDT, of course this year is an added bonus with the Royal Wedding so that might boost the numbe…

Doug Lampkin winning his 11th Scottish rightfully made all the headlines. He was however a firm favourite going into the week. I'd like to congratulate Tom Minta on a fabulous and dare I say, less widely predicted result. Best first timer, 5th overall and best under 200cc, Tom rode the Scottish on a 125. Hands up all those clubmen who still think they 'need' a 300!

A rumour circulating the bars of FW last Sunday night was that Beta UK had withdrawn all six 4-stroke bikes due to mechanical problems and that they would only be supporting the 2-stroke Rev-3 bikes! ("Int' beer brilliant" ) Six Beta Rev-4 bikes started the toughest reliability trial in the world last Monday and 5 successfully made it through the week with no mechanical problems at all. Unfortunately, the 6th bike was retired due to rider injury (busted rib or something?). Get well soon fella... i had something similar to this all plumbed in on a t peice, the first year at the ssdt i used this on a montesa and after a couple of day i was refused the extra fuel ,the year later i failed scruteenering with the auxillary tank fitted.have the rules changed?

I tried to say thank you to as many as possible during the week but i'm sure I must have missed a few so I thought I would just post a quick thank you to all the organisers, observers, refuelers, radio presenters, Marshalls and behind the scenes workers for a fantastic week and if you good sort out the weather to be as good next year as it was this year that would be grand (well done slapshot for sorting out this year) thanks alot Allan Milligan Rider No: 66

Having seen that Gas Gas hir bikes for the SSDT, I would beinterested to know if other importers offered a similar service Geebee

Due to the weather last year (Blame Slapshot3) and the number of bikes that had problems crossing some of the rivers up to Blackwater Dam, the club have invested in this to aid riders who are struggling

I was hoping a few of you SSDT vets, could point me in the right direction as far as getting my bike through scrutineering. What does my bike need to have to pass? As it stands, I don't have light's, speedo or side stand. I am aware that I need a side stand and speedo, however, can I get away with a cheap speedo from halfords? Also do I need a horn? Basically I'm not wanting to spend too much money, and from the price list for the speedo, wiring loom, horn and lights, it starts to get a wee bit pricey. cheers.

Can anyone tell me how common bike swapping is during the ssdt. Obviously against the rules I presume but not uncommon I'm lead to believe, anyone care to comment

At the request of a fella asking what are my thought's on riding the SSDT, and what have I learned from the event. Well it's a bit like work really, tha gets up eats thi breakfast then off you go, Monday is a bit like starting a new job, mad keen to get on with it and rush first few groups of the day, don't know why ? all trotting up the first two subs at Leanachan in the fancy new riding togs, well most, I'm the old bugger in wellies and ex army waterproof britches, past looking good for the sake of it, and the girls lost interest a long time ago. Never cleaned both subs yet, always manage to have one or two to keep the observers pencil active, then it's ower to Bradil…

Having celebrated his 17th birthday only last month, Joshua Atkinson from Dronfield, Derbyshire (near Sheffield) is the youngest rider competing in the 2012 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT). This week Josh wears number '152' and sits just outside the top 250 after a tough opening day on his trusty 2011 Gas Gas 125cc machine. The college student is one of four riders representing Sheffield and Hallamshire Motor Club. Speaking at the beginning of the week, Josh told of how excited he was to be making his SSDT debut.
