My mate has had his EVO for about a year now and at first it would just randomly stall all the time which we though was due to a blob of aluminium rattling around in the fuel tank left over from where the previous owner had filled a tapped hole with weld! We thought it was cured but its still stalling all the time but pretty much only when the rear wheel is lifted off the ground. So far he's done all the usual things like: New spark plug Factory settings on carb Cleaned carb Checked reeds New fuel filter Reset float level Throttle cable adjuesments Idle adjustments New air filter But we still have this REALLY annoying problem! New bike, still trying to figure out if this is 'normal'. Clutch drags a lot. With the lever adjusted most of the way out, it's easy enough to control once it's in gear, but shifting is pretty rough especially at a standstill because of all the clutch drag. It's definitely better once warmed up, but not great. As I'm new to trials bikes in general, and Beta, I'm wondering if this is normal. I've changed the trans oil (used motorcycle specific 10w40 as requested in the manual) and bled the clutch, neither of which had any impact on things. Hi Folks The front brakes on my Evo have little feel, and can be grabby. Last year the front brake would stick on then slowly release and eventually the brakes would just lock after brake application. I replaced the rubber plunger in the master cylinder and this solved the stuck brake problem, but the brakes still don't have a progressive feel at all. Now the front brake is beginning to exhibit the stickiness again. I used Dot 4 fluid as called for. Has anyone had similar problems? Has anyone retro fitted another brake master on the bike? I just bought a '15 Evo 300. Manual says that map switch depressed is "hard" map (sun), normal position is "soft" map (cloud). However the sticker on the switch itself says the exact opposite from the manual. Anyone know for sure which is correct? Not critical I guess since my skill level isn't at a point where I can really tell the difference between the two settings - or maybe there isn't an appreciable difference? Just curious mostly. Hello! New to the forum & trials, in general, but looking forward to playing around on this old Beta! But, I have a problem. I'm not new to wrenching on off-road bikes, I usually do all the work myself (with the help of YouTube & manuals), but this issue has me stumped! Where the heck do you add coolant to this bike! I had to replace the coolant reservoir, the old one had a pitted thread, so the cap wouldn't seal. Drained the motor, installed the new res, and the way it sits, gravity does not allow the coolant to cycle into the radiator and other hoses. I tried starting it and adding coolant to the reservoir, but it doesn't move out of the res. I loosened up…

I've just bought a '96 Techno 250 and I'm just figuring it out! The clutch drags but the great posts on here have pointed me in the right direction with that! With regards to the brake disks, are the disks themselves floating? The disks look 'loose' to me but the previous owner says it's normal?? What gearbox oil is recommended and how much is normally required? What's the best oil to use also? I recently picked up a 96 Techno 250. Being a 4-stroke guy, I thought nothing much of the fact that the bike popped a bit at idle and/or slightly cracked throttle. Now that my neighbors are complaining, I decided to investigate and have found that this, in fact, is not normal... I have completely cleaned the carb, installed a new plug (BP5ES), gas is 92 (R+M)/2 (95 RON) with 75:1 mix. Starts easy, runs good, plug doesn't foul, no excessive smoke. It pops whether the engine is cold or hot (which tells me the pipe isn't igniting unburned fuel). What could be causing the backfiring??? Any help appreciated. thanks. -RussD

1) Float level set correctly, but still leaks gas occasionally. Do the floats have a sticking problem on the Mikuni? 2) Leaking fork oil at base of fork - maybe a drip every 5 minutes. What do I need to fix? thanks! -RussD

Hi, my Techno 250 has developped a fault where it will jump out of 3rd and 4th gear. I split the engine and had a good look at the gear box and I've identified the gear selector drum as the main culprit. This is all good and well except I have no idea where I'd be able to get a new one. As I've split the engine casing I'm going to do a few other things while its in bits on the workbench; New piston and rings, big and little end bearings, main bearings and seals, selector forks and a full gasket set. If anyone knows a supplier that can get these parts for '97 techno 250 I'd be really grateful for the contact info. Hope you can help. Cheers, Ben.

Anyone got a spare kickstart lever kicking about (pardon the pun )? I don't think the one that was on was an original item anyway, it was too sloppy on the splines. Anyway, it's snapped now ( I don't know my own strength ). Any one got an old one sat in a drawer? Yours, with a snowball in hells chance, Phil.

G'Day Folks, Just bought a '97 Beta Techno 250 and as one does after buying a used bike....started to give her the once over maintenance treatment to make sure all is okay.. Just pulled off the steering head and unfortunately both steering bearings are pretty worn and sick looking...so, time for replacing.. Problem is, I can see the brand of the bearing..being KOYO...but I cannot see a model number....can anyone enlighten me as to what I am to ask for over the counter at my local bearing supplier?? The Beta Manual nor parts catalogue does not tell you what the brand/model number is of these bearings!! Another question as well... the bottom bearing appears to be seize…

This thread has probably been up before in one guise or another but I hope more direct advise will help me. I have a '97 Techno that I purchased at the start of the Summer. Although the bike is in great nick I am plagued by a gearbox problem that is basically this: Changing between gears is very stiff and finding neutral is a chalange to say the least. It has gotten so bad that sometimes I have to stall the engine. Sit in the bike, hold onto the shifter and rock the bike back and forth wiggling to get the bike out of gear. I change the fluid after every 6 or 7 hours of use and use PJ1 fluid. My maintenance skills are fairly solid but I have never tackled a 'box before.…

hello, I started riding last year,and got my first bike ('99 Techno) last year. I started having trouble with the kick sterter and shift lever a couple months ago. I replaced both springs, and put fresh ATF in ,and am still having problems. Any help is appreciated

Hello folks. I recently purchased a '99 Techno and have been having issues. When I bought the bike it was bought as a non runner, not quite a basket case but certainly been well neglected, the previous owner had bought it in the same condition. When he bought it, it needed new rings, as that was the reason for it not running, which he had fitted, but then still couldn't get the bike to fire up. He was then told that the CDi and possibly the coil were goosed..and as he had already ploughed a good sum of cash into the top end rebuild he didn't want to go any further into finacial loss. I haven't looked at this issue yet, it just surfaced today so it could be an obvious fix. When I squeeze the front brake I find I squeeze a little and nothing really happens, then suddenly it goes "click" (no idea if it's audible, just what it feels like) and the brake comes on. From there on it's quite normal and works fine. Release the brake, squeeze again and same thing. Maybe sticky caliper pistons? Or master cylinder piston? Or in the pushrod or lever pivot maybe? Perhaps even the disk not floating properly? Anyone else experienced this and have any solutions before I start pulling things apart. On another note the back brake heated up on a long d…

Just been looking at the Beta website,on the parts page there are a selection of parts such as the 'racing mid-pipe' and 'special cylinder head'. Does anyone know if these are 'special parts'? Beta website A few people were talking about Gas Gas 125 upgrades on another topic, just got me thinking if there are any for the Beta 125.

The new bike has suddenly learned a new trick popping out of first and second gear into neutral. Not real happy about this. Guess I’ll be looking into the shifter mechanism now.
