ACU Discussion

Entered a trial via the ACU portal. Now, at least a week later it says that my entry is not valid, due to my not having a rider number. Never been asked for this before. Spent ages on the website, trying to discover how to do this, but with no luck. Anyone know how to do this?

According to the ACU's news release - "The ACU will again be offering new and existing members of the ACU the opportunity to renew their licences Online in readiness for the 2013 season. This is the second year this service has been offered at the Show following its inaugural success last year." My sons birthday is 24/04/96 , to save you doing the math he will be 16 in April. Would he be able to ride as an adult when he turns 16 and would he just get his license changed from Youth A to an Adult? Or are you a youth till the year ends of the year you turn 17.

with not being a member of a club, i thought i would apply for my Trial Registration with the ACU, so i could just turn up at meetings and have my licence all done, below is an email i was sent after i paid my £10 but i have not received a licence yet, does it take a long time or have i missed something. Mine doesn't have a photo on as I did it online and it didn't ask for one does it matter and how can I get a photo on it when I renew it

Here's a topic for constructive discussion. Certain interested parties are asking ACU Centres for their opinion on the current age and machine regulations for youth riders. In our club we have very few under 16's, despite positively promoting the youth side of trials with championships, trophies, conducted routes and even a youth trial, we are struggling to attract the younger riders. Personally I don't think a change in the age groups or machine capacities would make any difference to entries. eg 6 year olds on 80's, 13 year olds on 250's etc etc What do you think, could a change make a difference to youth entries? Was talking trials to a mate today and got onto the subject of the Miller classes. he suggested I have a look at the "revised" rules for 2016. Is it me or has the point been completely missed ? There is STILL no difference in the classes to distinguish between a Pre unit big banger and a sub 190lb James/Bantam/Cub. Or have I read last years regs or the wrong page completely ?

Welcome news from the ACU. For many years the ACU has provided Road Traffic Act insurance cover for riders in events that have included the use of the public highway. With this, until now the Organisers have had to collect premiums from Riders during the Signing On process and the Competitors have been asked to complete and sign additional forms and declarations – this was a necessary evil to ensure the RTA cover was in place and applicable to that event. Possibly one for JC? I got Shirty's little Gas Gas report on the 2nd round of the Youth A&B. Okay I've been mega busy work-wise, but I never even realised Round 1 had taken place, let alone Round 2. I've always struggled getting results from Youth rounds and if these lads are the future of Trials in the UK then we need to be doing what we can to promote them in my opinion. Dave W does a great job with the Brit Championship - is there a Youth Championship equivalent I should be speaking to? i.e. someone who collates the results and sends them out?

I've just renewed my trials registration for 2024 and the ACU have come back asking for a medical (because I'm over 70) and an eye test (because I am over 55, though never needed one before). They have to be filled out by a doctor and optician, which is obviously going to be an expensive business. Is this for real? Or another quirky mistake from the Sport 80 system? If it is real I think I will stick to AMCA in future as the cost and hassle won't be worth it for just a couple of trials a year.

Hello, I am intending to start trials riding again. I haven't entered a competition since the 1980's and that was at a club meeting, I was never asked for a licence. The only licence I can find is the ACU Competition Licence international trials, is this the licence I need? I will only be doing club events. Thanks currently restoring a Montesa 349

Given the announcement last week that it is likely legislation will require new road bikes to have either linked or anti-lock braking, depending on engine size, from 2016 can the ACU say whether the FIM intends to lobby on this to get exemption for trials bikes or will we effectively see the end of modern trials using the road, few though they may be? Or will the SSDT perforce become "classic watercooled".

Hello All in UK Don't really know where to post but assumed that some gasgas rider would know. Last rode trials in 2002.. instantly stopped due to injury.. about to start again. What's the current postion regarding trials licence. As just giving it a try for a couple of trials to see if injury now OK. Can you get day membership of ACU for riding a single trial. Don't mind paying club membership fee but not too keen on paying for a licence I may only use once or twice. Thanks

The fact that the ACU Trials Forum is cancelled through lack of attendance is more than a little disappointing

Following some discussion on another thread recently, concerning the severity of Clubmans championship rounds, are these events limited to one single route or can organising clubs include a non championship B route if they wish? As is the case with many big events, the Colmore Cup suffers from the vast range of riders abilities. Whilst the top 10 or so find it a fairly pleasant ride around, there are a good number who find the going more of a challenge. There are almost certainly a number of riders (genuine club level clubmen and ladies) who would also like to ride in these events but feel they are too hard. We run three big road trials each year with entries of over 100 riders. The take up of the ACU's optional road insurance for these events is; to be honest, worryingly low!
