Those who followed my last thread re: carb jetting will recall that I opened the carburetor on my recently-purchased TL320 only to find that the idle jet was completely missing. As I looked at the following diagram, I noted that there is also an emulsion tube that is shown, (part # 9980, labeled number 5 on the diagram) apparently fitted above, and in the same passage as the idle jet (labeled #7). I ordered a selection of idle jets in various sizes, and I also ordered the emulsion tube shown in the parts list accompanying the diagram. The emulsion tube does not fit. It is far too long. The idle jets fit, and the bike runs beautifully with the idle jet in place, and no …

Hi all. Right I’m going to throw a grenade in here on this subject. Stock jetting is pilot 60, main 90 X2 needle and 70 slide, this we all mainly know. Right here comes the grenade. I’m running 52 pilot and 85 main to get my plug looking anything like how it should, I’ve gone right through the carb, float needle, float height, new needle, new atomiser, new choke plunger. On stock jetting the bike simply over fuels and the consumption is quite high. We’ve had this problem with another SWM and also a TX311 and in both cases the problem is solved by leaning the jetting. All the bikes pick up a lot better and do rev out ok. A 70 slide is lean and I believe by using a 60/90 se…

My TL320 was running great one day, and the next, it wouldn't start. I suspected a bad condensor, since they tend to die suddenly. So I installed a new condensor, and new points as long I was already inside the flywheel. Sadly, still no spark. So I'm down to either a stator that produces no power, or a bad coil. Presumably, I should be able to kick the bike over with a meter attached to the blue wire that feeds the coil, and measure (pulsating) power there. right? If there is no power, then I have a bad stator (or a shorted/ broken wire) If I have power there, but still no spark, then my coil is bad, correct? Thanks for all the help, gang! I'm looking forward to some…

hi new to the forum and the twinshock scene. just though I’d introduce myself. my dads had this tucked away in a garage for the last 32years. After a couple of failed attempts to get it running in the mid 90s I though I’d have another go now technology is a bit better. and here the bike is “finished” it’s meant to be a little ratty and rough around the edges. I don’t fancy turning up at some local trials events with a shiney new looking bike and being rubbish haha. I went a little different on the tank

I have acquired a TL320 this summer. I know these things are quite noisy - and nearly bullet proof. Inspections of clutch (to try solving the clutch'problem') and inspections of barrel and head, indicates that the engine is very fine. Anyway - it has a lot of mechanical noises and there seems to be some play either at the top-end or the big-end of the rod. I haven't measured it and it is just recognisable. (A lot of the noise is transferred by the fins on the head I have noticed) Do anyone know where to find the specifications of service limits, wear outs etc. for the Rotax engine?

Hello everyone I am a new SWM owner living in South West Scotland. I acquired my 1980 320 TL from someone on Ebay last September. The bike had been restored, after being imported from Italy three years before, which included a couple of what l now understand are standard mods. One of these was moving the foot pegs back and down by about 1/2 an inch. In their new position the foot pegs had fillets run down their length to strengthen them. This means that the fillets foul the side stand, and unless l grind the offending fillet back, l can't fit the stock side stand. I ve been thinking of fitting the bolt for the stand with a heavy spring and leaving some slack in …

Hi all I have 2 TL320´s that are both leaking oil from the kickstart shaft / gear change shaft. They both have had the seals changed and the Oring for the gear lever changed. Sometimes they drip a lot from the gear change shaft and sometimes a bit from the kick start shaft. Other days they don´t leak at all. If the bikes lean away fromthe shat´s they usually stay dry (shame that the side stand is on this side). Any tips welcome !

Hi all, I am replacing seals and bearings in my Jumbo engine and have a few questions: - does the gear box internals stay in the clutch side or front sprocket side of motor when split? - is heat needed on the main bearings to come away from the case? Thanks in advance,,

Anyone have a good source for the 280 pistons? I’m going to rebuild my 1982 TL320 and will probably need a oversized piston. Heard you can use 583 Ski Doo or Sea Doo pistons. I definitely want a two ring piston.

I have had a little extra time lately and been finishing up some projects. I’ve had a 1980 SWM TL320 basket case for a few years now. The engine is done with all new bearings, seals and a lot of other new parts. I’m in the process of putting the engine back in and I’m having trouble getting the swingarm to fit. I did install new swingarm bushings. Any tricks or advice on getting it to fit? I didn’t work on it for too long today and I have to go into work tomorrow but should be back on it Thursday. I also have a new seat cover to install and could use some advice putting that on. What glue do you use and and tricks stretching on the seat base? Thanks

Now that my SWM is running reasonably well (still needs cosmetics) I have noticed, or imagined, that it does not pick up a quickly as my Aprilia did, is this entirely down to flywheel weight ? I suppose the sensible thing would be to take them off and weight them, but if some one knows ? Were there any other differences between the two Rotax engines, apart from clutch covers on the later Aprilia's ? Thanks Ross
