  3. Hello all Looking for advice on the best plan of action to repair/ replace my kickstarter ring ( the part that clamps onto the splined shaft coming out of the transmission). I noticed it was cracked into 2 peices . I had previously noticed the kick starter hitting the skid plate at the bottom of the kick stroke so I ground away some of the plate. It doesn't really engage until it the kick lever is parallel to the ground. Is it possible to advance the shaft ( counter clockwise ) when remounting the repaired kickstarter so it engages sooner and stops before hitting the skid plate ? or is this normal and not really what caused the crack? As to repairing the crack it l…

So, in addition to the front fork issue, I now need to strip out the rear shock. Again, I cannot find any information about this unit and the only identifier is the Aprilia logo in the lower aluminium casting. It looks a little like a Paioli unit, but cant be sure. Does anyone have anything useful that might help me? I am assuming that the shaft needs a pair of aluminium split blocks clamped to it to remove the end fork. There are no lock nuts anywhere and additionally there is no link between the rebound adjuster ring and the rebound adjuster rod that runs through the damper shaft. Ideas please but not on a postcard.....

Hi all, I recently picked up an old '94 Climber 280 for pretty cheap. As such, it's needed a fair amount of work. As you all already know, information on these bikes seems to be pretty scarce. I just finished rebuilding the forks, but I am unsure as to how much fork oil to refill them with; any recommendations? Also, I heard that 5-7.5W is probably correct; does that sound right? If anyone has a good line on where to buy parts for these bikes, I would really appreciate it. I made an air filter and rear brake clevis, but would rather buy the correct parts. Thanks, Nick

Hi. Can anyone supply me with the specification of the front forks for an Aprilia Climber 1992 280R. The forks feel quite hard, I have stripped forks down and found the internals to be a mix of parts to make it "work". An exploded diagram would be ideal with info like spring dimensions and spacer sizes etc so i can rebuild them somewhere near to the original specification. Any info greatly apprichiated. e-mail: nathanharold@blueyonder.co.uk if you can send any diagrams cheers nathan

I have just striped down my aprilia 280 climber 1992. There is a little bit of welding that needs to be done on the frame were the mudgaurd mount is, i was just wondering what the frame would be made of i would say steel but just wanted to ask to make sure? Also i need to stifen the suspension up because i am a big lad and the supspension keeps bottoming out and hiting the mudgaurd, i was wondering if i could have some advice on how to adjust this? There is a standard pump valve on it (the usual car tyre size) and i was wondering can this be pumped up with a standard pump or do i need a specialist? I would be greatful for anyother advice on little jobs i could do wast t…
