OSET Electric Trials Bikes

The Stratford-Upon-Avon Club will be running a Saturday afternoon trial specifically for Conducted riders with class D and the NEW CLASS E licences. The trial will take place at Saintbury Quarry near Broadway on Saturday 19th June starting at 2pm. There will be two routes on offer with trophies presented on the day to the best rider on each route. The emphasis on the event is to provide a FUN afternoon with sections suitable for the smallest young trials riders away from the distractions of a normal club trial. It didn't take long to realize that we needed handguards for the 16. Our four year old was riding just outside of the homerun fence at a baseball field, and all I could think about was his hand hitting one of the fence posts. I found the Moose "mini" aluminum guards for $35 shipped, that are made for 1 1/8" fatbars. As expected, they took a lot of persuading to get them to mount up: A fair bit of bending in a vise w/ a big adjustable wrench, I had to add some electrical tape to the bar-end inserts, cutting off about 3" from each guard and drilling a new hole for the bar-clamp mount, and adding a segment of old inner tube to the bar clamps so they will resist sliding fr…

This is my 3 year old son's first ride on his 12.5. He just hasn't worked out how to pull the brakes!

Our 4 year old has been riding his 12.5 since he was 3. This spring, for the first time, we noticed that he was looking a little big on the 12.5, at least when he stands up. Finally, a few weeks ago, my wife mentioned that she had turned the speed to full, and he was still looking like he wanted more. I bought my grandson a Spyder 16.0 when Ian first started importing them into the USA. My grandson rode it for a few hours and took a spill and the battery pack came out (we didn't have it properly secured). Since then, it blows the 20 amp main fuse whenever we try to connect the battery. Any idea where to look first? Dick

Just got a new 36v Oset for my son and we love it! One small issue we have, though, is harshness of the throttle at very low speeds. It's not bad for general riding around, but it definitely makes practicing things like small circles a real challenge - I can only do them using a lot of brake to modulate speed instead of the throttle, and my kid can't do them at all. I've read elsewhere that this is just the way it is on this bike - it might be something we have to live with, and the rest of the bike is so good that we're certainly willing to do so. Now that the ACU are issuing licences to 4 year olds on electric trials bikes, I was wondering what sort of take up I would have if I staged an event aimed at these riders. Would anyone be interested in a trial in the Costwold/Evesham area where the entries were restricted to Conducted riders on Osets, Auto 50's and TY80's? It would probably be on a Saturday, have eight sections each with two routes. Begginer and Experienced. Each section would be ridden three times by each rider before moving on to the next section. hello, I've read about Ian experimenting with nicer Kelly controls... and Li-xxx battery packs. I work at Caterpillar in powertrain engineering. Hi Being now the proud owner of a 12.5 and a 16 36V (for the boys you understand ) I am a bit confused over the charge indicators on the throttle. Having built them up and plugged the charger in, the light on the charger turned to green within 5 minutes, indicating a full charge. When you turn the bikes on, 3 lights on the throttle assembly turn red. Does this indicate full charge, or do the lights on the throttle go green? Another quick question, the grips don't appear too big for my children, but the brake levers on the 12.5 are tiny (length wise), are they just replacable with cycle parts as I would like to get similar length levers to the 16. Hello proud parents. How do you teach your kid how to wheelie on an Oset? My son really wants to do them, and he practices in the driveway going over a log for countless hours, but I can't seem to explain to him the proper way to use his body motion and coordination with the throttle. I'm not talking about doing any kind of long distance wheelies, he is simply struggling with being able to lift the front on demand. Anybody willing to share their teaching aides or tricks?

Hi All Having recently read in the advert for Oset about 4yr olds being allowed to run on these bikes under new ACU rules, I was wondering if any clubs have taken this up. I am based in Devon and have just bought a 16 36v and a 12.5 for my 4 boys to practice on. My boys are between 6 and 1 (may be a short while before the 1yr old rides one). Also do they need ACU approved helmets or are cycle helmets Ok. Also does anyone know how clubs generally feel about them following you around between sections (once they are competant on the bikes). Sorry for all the questions, but getting back into trials after a 20ish yr lay off. Many thanks Andy

hi, i was thinking of replacing the handle bars, (for higher ones) and the grips too, any idea which ones to get, also i want to change the lever for the front brake for an longer one as the original doesn`t seem long enough because of the accelerater, not sure what to get though ? any advice would be great !

Hi all, I'm looking at a 12.5 for my 3 year old son but could do with reducing the costs a little so looking for a used one. Has anyone seen any or know the best people to speak to? They dont apear to exist! Surely those with kids that have outgrown the 12.5 must want to flog them so they can upgrade Cheers.

Hi All, Just got my lads (aged 4 and 7) an Oset 16.0. All is going well, but..... the diameter of the grips is M-A-S-S-I-V-E. I can hardly get my hands round them! Has anyone used any [smaller] alternatives??? Ta, David

Hi All, First post here in the Oset forum. I had a 314Cota some time back, and was happy that my old username still worked. Does anyone know if any of the true mx / dirtbike tires will fit the width of the rims on a 12.5 Oset? The stock tires are great in the driveway and lawn, but we just cleared some area at the back of the yard that is pretty slick clay on all but the driest days. Open to thoughts - Thanks, Pete

Can anyone write up a comparison between the 24v and 36v Oset. Especially with regards to how long the batteries maintain a charge. Thanks, Mark

Hi, I have just purchased an oset bikes (small one), but i am having trouble trying to keep the bikes at very low speed, is this normal? i set the speed with the throttle right open and adjust t down to slow walking speed, my riders are still trying to get to grips with the brakes so don`t want it any faster, when it is turn off by the key then back on again after a minute or so, the speed increases (fast walking pace), also the speed adjust seem very very sensative, i`m worried that the speed could increase whilst the bike is in use, and as this little machine is so powerful it`s quite scary to think it could take off with my little one on board, any tips or advice??
