Hello Community. I am looking for new bike now, and am looking at two 250 s. One is a 2010 with sachs rear and one is a 2009 with a Öhlins shock (original taken from a 2011 125 Racing). Other than this they are pretty similar exept for colors of cause. I like the 2010 design better, but somehow wonder if the ôhlins is worth taking the 09? i have tried some easy riding on both, but I cant notice any difference with my skills. What do You think? -Jan

Having nothing to compare it to, but how many seconds should the engine return to idle after giving it a good throttle action? Should it be immediate, or is there a little lag? Mine seems to rev well now after a little tweeking of the fuel screw and idle screw (having previously stripped and cleaned the carbs). But after a quick twist of the wrist from idle it takes about 3 seconds before it returns to full idle revolutions. Is that normal, or what might be the culprit? I´m thinking maybe the engine is a little starved of air, maybe a new filter? Thanks in advance.

What is considered normal engine noise on a TXT 280? After getting this one started (read my previous post), I putted around a bit in the back yard. The engine seems to make more noise than the whirring/exhaust sound I expected. Maybe it needs a ring job. A friend of mine suggested it could be caused by the carb not being properly adjusted. Second, can someone walk me through the adjusting process for the clutch. Mine engages strong but seems to not totally disengage. Lastly may I say, using the GasGas as an indicator, I am a bit shocked how much trials bikes have changed since I last road 30 years ago. On my short put around the yard, I felt like someone from the…

hey, Gents! AnnMarie from the States here. The soft puffy decals are peeling up on our '00 GG TXT 280. Can you suggest what glue to use to re-secure? Also, the replacement decal for my GG 80cc doesn't want to stay even with the supplied adhesive. Can I use the same as what you suggest above to resecure hers? Thanks!!

I've got a new (to me) 2000 TXT280. I was going through it today greasing the suspension, etc, and wanted to grease the wheel bearings. I couldn't figure out how to get the rear wheel spacers out to get to the bearing seals. What's holding them in? I've never owned a bike where those spacers didn't just fall right out, but even gentle prying with a screwdriver wouldn't move these things. What's the trick?

New bike! It's a happy day. Bad clutch, though. It seems that there was an update (new plates) that changed the pack height...this was performed a while ago and the clutch was working. Now the clutch disengages partially, but not enough to come to a complete halt. The bike did sit for some time. Could this be the o-rings in the slave? Of course I'll try bleeding first. Can this one be back-filled? Also...the rear suspension seems very soft...this bike might not be set up for a 190# rider. Is the pre-load adjustable to set the race sag? DAMN, it's good to see a trials bike parked in the yard again!!

Hello All, I just bought a very nice, low hour (20 or less hours)'03 300 Pro that is box stock except stiffer fork springs and fat bars. I've been riding a '04 Sherco 2.9 that I enjoyed very much, but when I decided to get a second bike I had to try a Gas Gas. From the moment I got on it the bike felt very comfortable... light but planted with easy predictable turning. Unfortunately, all the ledge at my house is covered with 12" of snow, so my impressions are limited to doing figure eights on an iced covered driveway. So far I've looked at the various threads to check on oil etc.... Having reviewed past posts, I want to make sure I didn't miss anything. What setup thi…

OK...I'm still going to sell this piece of crap, but by the time I do, it's going to be a fully-sorted, no-excuses piece of crap. Next problem.... I did a little experiment this weekend and invited a friend over. He could actually park his 1951 Buick Dynaflow Special in the space between the airbox boot and the carb throat. I can't believe ANY factory sent a machine out with such an obvious (even fatal) flaw. Is there an update for this? Hopefully this was sorted by '04.

Bearing in mind the age of the bike, is it feasible that the rear spring could be clapped out? I can't get the sag right(too much) and I have used up all the adjustment. I have had the bike nearly a year and don't ride it hard, I've only just started red route. I have no idea how it has been treated by previous owners, but the general state of the bike wouldn't lead me to think it has had a lot of abuse. The main reason I am concerend is that the front end tends to lose grip and push out on tight turns, which could apparently be caused by a soft rear shock (as well as my crap technique).

Hi there, I have a friend who is looking at purchasing an '04 280 Pro from his mate. Apparently, its 6 months old and is in mint condition. It comes with the lighting kit (not on the bike), and I *think* its road registered and taxed, but I'm not 100% on this one. So my question is, what sort of price is reasonable? I've never had any dealings with Gassers myself so I don't really know what the going rate is for a machine such as this. Any advice / opinions would be gratefully received. Cheers KB.

Bike starts and runs OK, usually second kick hot or cold but it does take a hell of a kick so much so that its almost impossible to do it without standing up on the bike and dropping your body weight down on to it, obviously this is a good technique anyway but it can be annoying when stalled mid section as I can't leave one foot on the floor and start it. Also the amount of force required seems like its too much, as in I'll end up damaging something one day, it makes a loud crack/snap sound when starting and sometimes makes a weird click sound which I don't think is right at all, happens pretty rarely but does do it. I have had a good look at the pawl gear etc when I had …

I'm in the market for a '04 Gas-Gas Pro and I am looking for some opinions from riders that have ridden both the 300 and the 280. I ride intermediate class at our club, I struggle with low traction sections so I'm wondering which would have a powerband more suited to low traction situations. But.... I also enjoy play/trail riding on my trials mount where a snappy, powerful engine is fun. I guess you can't have it all with one bike! Fire away with the opinions, just don't recommend another brand bike, I live in Gas-Gas country! Thanks

My friend has just bought a tidy '04 Raga. It looks very much as original, he was wondering if there are any common problems or modifications which could or should be done to improve it? Much of the terrain on which we ride is slippy wet 'off cambered' mud and roots, so power is not going to be an issue. Any personal experiences or info appreciated.

Ok been searching for the answer for this but there seems to be lots of different opinions, so what should I be running? Bike: 2004 GasGas TXT-Pro 280cc Oil: Castrol Fully Synthetic I've not had the bike long but so far I beleive I've been running 70:1 as I've been adding 71ml to every 5 litres of fuel. (5000

Just finished stripping my mates bike down with him, to replace the main bearings and seals for the second time in 6 months. Both times it has been the bearing on the flywheel side that has gone. When we took off flywheel cover we noticed liquid inside it which looked like engine oil and water, could the problem be that this plastic cover is not sealing properly and letting water in and then this is somehow getting into the bearing. We have been told that these bearings usually need replacing after 6 months, but surely they must last longer than that. Bearings and seals were bought direct from Gas Gas so were genuine articles. Anyone had similar troubles, or could shed mo…

So..... I was stupid and pinched the throttle cable putting the tank on. When I started the bike and it redlined. (scared the **** out of me and obviously p****d off the neighbors) It was at night and I thought I was pushing the kill switch, but I was actually pushing the flange on the light switch. I heard a screech, bike died. When I tried to start it, it was obvious I had no compression (removing the head confirmed I melted a ring into the piston). Parts on the way. But, before I tore it apart I noticed a distinct ticking sound coming from what sounded like the headlight area when kicking to confirm the compression with a gage. Sounds somewhat like when a spark a…
