Bultaco

Hi everyone, will a later style, ‘72-later ignition cover with the clutch arm on the top fit my model 76 1971 175 Lobito with the earlier cover with the clutch cable that enters from the bottom of the cover?

Having a hard time getting the float valve to function on my Model 85. My bike uses a 27mm Amal Concentric. The float and float needle look healthy and the seat looks clean, but fuel gushes into the intake duct and also out the tickler port. I can hear nothing when I shake the plastic float, and there are no pronounced "steps" in the float needle. Can someone suggest other things I can check? Anyone run into this before?

I wanted to adjust the timing of my Alpina 188 (should be between 2.5 and 2.7 mm BTDC) but the adjustment range is between 4.5 mm and 13.5 mm! Do you have any idea what the possible cause of this problem is?

I have to remove the flywheel rotor to adjust the ignition timing of my 188 Alpina. What is the best way to lock the flywheel rotation? I don’t have a flywheel holder (strap tool). Is it appropriate to use the holes in the rotor to put a bracket (to the frame for example) for blocking? Thank's for your help.

Would someone please tell me how the black and green wires going to the tail light assembly of my Model 85 are supposed to be wired? The schematic in the shop manual could easily be interpreted as those two wires being joined together in the tail light, but we know that's not right. I'm inclined to think the green wire goes to the brake light bulb and the black wire goes to the tail light bulb. True?

Well the 199B was running great then the woodruff key which I had thought was in all the way had been pushed out the other side and eventually found its way to the ignition coils on my brand new electronic ignition! crying alligator tears at the thought of buying another one, is it possible to replace those coils? or repair them?

  11. Started by LSMO,

I'm facing a "pick your poison" situation. I'm painting a Model 85 tank using the common base coat / clear coat process and need to know what to do about clear coating the Bultaco stickers. On the one hand, if I don't clear coat the stickers, I'm concerned that any gasoline spill will dissolve the adhesive, and the stickers will come loose. On the other hand, the clear coat manufacturer isn't sure the clear will adhere properly to the stickers. How is this commonly handled? What works, gents?

  12. Spoiler I have a 1971 Bultaco Matador 250. Checked compression and got 90psi max. Replaced piston rings without rehoning cylinder and got 150 psi. Wouldn't start so I messed with timing and got it to start. It reved really high because I didn't have the carburetor tuned. I shut it off within 10 seconds of running. Went to start it again and it wouldn't start. Checked compression again and now it's at 120 psi and won't even attempt to start. Tore the head and cylinder off and no scoring in cylinder and rings are still intact. Any ideas why compression dropped? Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA.

Another dumb question Finally got the bike done and it started right up, I was shocked! I now have the newest Sherpa on the planet! While opening the petcock I noticed it has three positions, and I did not pay attention when rebuilding it, but I assuming up and down is open, but which way is closed and which way is reserve ?

I'm almost finished restoring my Sherpa T 250 circa 1966. New rims, new tyres, new spokes. Just had new brass bushings put in the brake plate. New shoes, new cable inner and outer. Brake arm works fine, shoes contact the inside of the drum fine. However, with the brake lever fully pulled I can still roll the bike forwards. Oddly it locks up the wheel if I pull the bike back, but forwards no chance. Stopping would be nice before I attempt to ride the bike. Has anyone some suggestions to what I can do next to make it work ?

Do most Alpina Model 85 riders use the stock electrical system or toss it for a total loss battery system?

  17. Started by slowrider,

Bought the electronic ignition for my 199B, last year 350 and noticed the it needs a spark plug that has the threads on top instead of the modern style plug for the boot to fit, I am using an NGK BPR4ES. Is there a plug that will work with this boot or do I need to convert the boot?

Hey folks. I have a model 84 lobito 175 that I'm rebuilding. The engine was seized from water intrusion and the crank and rod are in terrible shape. The rod will barely even move on the crank. Do any of you know if there is an interchangeable crank and rod that I can use? Thanks

I am restoring a Model #138 and am searching for an exhaust system for this bike. I am most interested in finding the the header pipe, as I can source the intermediate and the final piece from InMotion or other vendors. If anyone can assist I would be very grateful.
