Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

The last few years I have insured my road legal trials bikes with specialist insurance companies that provide cover during a competition on the road. Most std bike insurance exclude this. With the ACU now providing insurance to cover the Road Traffic Act requirements as part of the entry fee is it necessary to go with the specialist firms or is standard road cover ok for TPF&T when not competing and for cover when going to a trial and when at home. Difference is about £140 per year so worth considering. Any thoughts or experiences

hi all, my bike has a number plate on it but i dont have the v5, ive checked online on the dvla site and its confirmed the bike, there site says its a 2002 but the frame number tells me its a 2001 could this be a typo maybe. also does anyone know how i go about getting the v5 for it. tia tony

Hi all, Nearly got the old M27 ready for a first firing so starting to think about getting the original reg number back. All I have documents wise is tax discs up to 1980 in tatty condition and the rear number plate with just the outline of the lettering which has long since peeled off. Photo attached. I understand I will need to get an owners club to sign off that the bikes genuine but theres no Bultaco owners club so who do I go to? Anybody got advice on the pitfalls and perils I face? As it says in the title! I wanted to road register my bike so I could insure it tpf&t, I'm not that interested in riding it on the road. Maybe the odd road trial and a few local green lanes. I sent the V55 Application form off with insurance, MOT and a letter from Steve Saunders (who has been very helpful) stating that when the bike was imported (in 2012), the NOVA system was not in place. I also note that Steve Saunders has supplied a V267 (Declaration that a vehicle is new) to the DVLA since my original application. I can only assume the DVLA asked him for this themselves. Hi there, Im trying to get my bike road registered ready for the ssdt, Ive been to the dvla place to find out what i need to do. They say i need to get the bike insured off the frame and engine number first then then will register the bike. The only problem is i cant find anywere that will insure it without it been registered! I just started the process of registering my old TXT. It was a bit of a faff getting help from Gas Gas in Austria and a lot of time was wasted so thought I'd put what I learned on here to help others. So, I have a classic bike, new to me I have HPI'd the chassis number and nothing comes back, so it's not registered I have a dating letter from the UK importer, stating date of manufacturer (but bike is not for road use??? on it) I need to get it MOT'd on the chassis number Which other DVLA forms do I need and what do I do to obtain a NOVA form form HMRC, to satisfy DVLA Can someone lead me through it, in simple steps..........A to Z?

Hi I have no documentation for my Sherpa just matching frame and engine numbers. Does anyone know how to search the dvla site with just this? I don't know if it has been road registered, it may have. If not I need to do it. Advice gratefully received. Neil

Hi, Need a little advice if possible. I have a 349 Cota which I've had for a few years now and have decided that this year I'll get the bike finished. It's still in bits but I've contacted Sandifords for an age related certificate which they cannot issue now due to not being authorised by HMRC. Can the bike be registered without this document? I don't know if the bike was ever registered as there were no documents supplied with the bike when I bought it. I'm pretty sure it's a Mark 1 349 from the engine and chassis numbers, probably late 1979 early 1980. The numbers are: 51M 18186. I would prefer an age related registration number rather than a Q plate if possible. …

So I would like to road reg my GasGas TXT 250. I have the V55/5 (I think it is) form the DVLA but I think there is more to it than that isn't there? I was wondering if anyone could detail the process and the cost involved, I've read some posts on it but some of those are a good few years old now and I know the Gov love to "update" how things are done for no reason. Could somebody please give me the info required for getting a bike road registered. If the bike has matching engine and frame numbers and every part of the bike is as it was made. No evidence of a reg number or old tax disc is available. (this would be a UK reg) cheers for any info.

Yet to get in to Trials and want to suss out all of the issues before I jump in... one of which is getting to/from the trials location. It so happens that I live just 4 miles from an official trials site and so I'm wondering if getting a road-reg bike with MOT, tax and insurance and riding it to/from is a reasonable option? Had a couple of comments that have diss'ed the idea completely but thought I'd poll a wider audience and see if anyone has done this and how viable it is? Hi, Does anybody have any experience of insuring a trials bike for a road trial for just one day? I have the chance to ride my fathers Enfield in a local road trial (in preparation for the Scottish Pre 65 - where there is the option to purchase road top up insurance with your entry fee). The bike is road reg'd and already insured for the road under my dads policy but obviously just for him. I have a full bike license so assume it should be quite possible, but just wondering if anybody has any experience of doing this and if so through which companies? hi all have just got myself a new 300 factory and am having a devils own job getting it insured as 99% of companys don't recognize the bike as its not on their system have tried MSM but as I had a claim last year the don't want to know can anyone suggest any others out there that can help
