Alright guys.... ..well, I picked the bike up today...at last.....seeing as I bought it off ebay it's turned out okay..!! The only thing is that it hasn't come with a manual? What should the standard gearing be on a 2004? Currently - it's on 10:40.... Also - the forks have an obvious rebound adjuster on the top right light......but look like they have some adjustment on the top left and bottom right too.....anyone know what these adjust?...maybe pre-load and compression damping? Finally - it's got a bit of a dent in the header pipe....and some chunks out of the clutch casing.....are these parts going to cost me a fortune if I decided to replace them?...(you know how…

Howdy chaps, Well - it's been over 2 years since I've managed to get out on it so it's time to sell!! Haven't really kept an eye on bike prices for a long while so don't really know what sort of prices bikes are bringing....?? Any suggestions? It's a 2004 315r.......immaculate.....few little anodised bits and it's done nowt........prob about 10 trials in it's life!! Be good to get some idea on what I should be asking for it!! Cheers....

Hey Guys: At last - after a few weeks of searching I've at last found myself a good 315r (for a while there I nearly went down the Rev-3 route!!)... Anyways - I've been searching through this forum to find out what I should be doing to the bike set-up wise...and it seems there are a few things worth doing....but, I can't figure out whether some of the mods are only applicable to newer model bikes.... Can anybody help out with the following: Sureflex clutch plates (will a 2004 need them?) Boysen Reeds ? 42 - 11 gearing ratio Delta linkage plates Straight through exhaust silencer? Hi All, After getting my last bike nicked I managed to get a very clean 04 315r a few months ago. It's got a keihin PWK fitted as oppose to the standard dellorto. I've not been able to get out on it for one reason or another until this weekend ... Anyhow I was itching to finally go for a blast on it !! It started fine (second kick) and ran fine on the choke but as soon as I knocked that off the bike would run for a few seconds then die. If I ran it on the choke it would run for a bit longer then die. The only way to then start it would be to bump it off down a hill. Today I've drained the petrol off (as the bile has been standing) and put a fresh tank in. It now runs…

I'm looking at a used Cota 315. Could anyone out there give me any advise on it's ride charachteristics/quirks? For instance; I think the GGs steer a little bit better than the Shercos, but the Shercos seem to be more reliable. Are there any traits good or bad that I should consider? Thanks

Hi folks,sorry to say but I am selling my 315r, its a 2004 model in good condition(funnily enough!!),really,as I have on used it on one trial since I got it on early 2006. I work overseas and never seem to be home when the club is holding a trial,so want a machine I use on the road and have a thrap around the bing as and when. The bike is MOt'd and road registered,new Michelin tyres and sureflex dimpled clutch plates. can anybody give me an appx value for the bike as I dont have a clue,paid

So there is a used 2005 4RT for sale - looks in pretty decent shape - not sure of the hours though. I have a GG 2000 TXT280 and like it a lot, but its really worn out. I am new to trials bike (been riding enduro) but absolutely love it for the highly technical trails we have out here. For a newbie I understand that a remapping would be in order. And perhaps the clutch might need to be changed out. But were the 2005s and OK year for the 4RT? Anything I should watch for? And to make matters worse - there is a 2008 Beta Rev 4T for about the same price. *sigh* thanks Don

recently my uncles 2005 4rt started to backfire after he revs it up he checked the plug and changed it to a new one and generaly can not find anything wrong it otherwise runs good

Just bought a good example but a few questions about my first foray into fourstrokes (good bit of assimile) after a 315 Mont Tickover seems low - I know 1800rpm is recommended but this one I would guess is about 12-13rpm and wants to stall. Seems like standard gearing on 10/41 - whats the best 10/43 or 10/44 (guess they turned the tickover down instead of correcting the gearing) Exhaust seems loud and has no rear end cap, so that'll be the reason I guess. Is the end cap necessary and if so, how much are they It's got the 315 clutch on it and wide pegs, so is pretty ok and hasn't suffered any rock damage So i'm going to do the fluids and lube her up and see how she …

Hi. I have just acquired a bog standard fully original 2005 4RT. It has the most awful breather pipe coming from the tank with a what looks like a valve and then the breather pipe goes back below the tank. I haven't has time to figure out what it's about to be honest but am wondering whether or not it is needed or whether i can cut it back and plonk a little one way valve on it? Are there any other alternatives to what i can do with it to make it look a bit tidier? Cheers Chris

Not too familiar with any of the 4t montesa's and im just getting back into trials. I had an 03 315 new and loved it and also appreciated the build and reliability of the honda side of it especially compared to my REV 3 I had after. I have an opportunity of buying a VERY tidy 2005 4rt and was wondering if anyone had info on what they are like especially as this is one of the first ones. Did they have any quirks which have since been ironed out? I know its now an old bike but this particular bike is at my price range but like new so makes it quite desirable. Spending the same money on a much newer bike would only give me something very "ridden". I dont thi…

My tank leaks very slowly at the bottom, wondering where I can find a suitable replacement, it isn't listed separately in the parts manual. I see the newer cotas use two o-rings but I don't think I'm that lucky.

hello all, i have two 2005 Montesa 4rt's. one is a Repsol with under 20 hours and the other is a normal 4rt with a 260 kit and a ecu switch. the 260 is my work horse with a ton of hours but runs like a dream and has a domino fast throttle tube. i purchased both bikes from the original owner. the original owner had played with the throttle cable and taken the tps out of its operating perameter and the bike would not start. so i got it back where it needed to be and it now starts first kick. it unfortunately has an erratic idle that i cannot get rid of. it needed a new throttle cable so i replaced that and installed a new fast throttle tube. i set the tps take up in the …

Greetings - I "trail" ride my 06 and have burned the back side of the knee out of two pairs of pants on the header pipe before the shield. A common wisdom cure is the hope - the new ones have a longer shield I noticed. Likely a new location for the mount as well. Ideas Pics appreciated - and thanks too for reading!

I picked up a new 2006 4rt a few weeks ago. If you have recently purchased one, you should check that the engine breather is venting properly. The hose comes out of the top left of the valve cover and goes up to a small catchment tank up underneath the steering head. From the tank, a second hose runs to the top left front side of the air box. This routing recycles any excess air out of the engine back into the intake via the air box. From the factory, my breather hose was doubled back on itself just before the air box, effectively sealing it. It wasn't that obvious as the pinched part was tucked up behind the frame, just above the rear brake reservoir. The quick w…

I am a 175 lb sportsman class rider and am in need of suspension setting tips . I am curious about the preload screw on the lt fork. When I turn it all the way in and back it out 2 turns as per the manual it seems like it is not doing anything except unscrewing the adjuster, in other words no friction or tension is on it when it is turned out 2 turns. As for the comp and rebound adjustments is the compression adjuster on the bottom of the rt fork is it at full compression when turned all the way in ? The rebound adjuster on the rt fork seems to have no effect whether it is turned all the way in or out. I just need a good baseline setting from somebody who understan…
