Montesa

  1. Started by mark1161,

I've had my 4rt for 2 months now and think it's absolutely fantastic, but I'm now having my first problem in the shape of a misfire when I open the throttle looking for a bit of power when climbing or getting up a step etc. Basically what happens is, I open the throttle and at low revs / low throttle openings the engine is OK, anything more than 1/4 throttle or so, then I get a misfire which feels like the engine is dying and then it comes back in with a bang (a bit like a 2-stroke when it '4-strokes', or like a bike with a warm engine and the choke partly on). When I ease off the throttle a touch it starts running cleanly again When I take the plug out it's dry and soo…

Wow. I am amazed at the seeming disinterest. First, the mysterious French photos (http://moto-montesa.superforum.fr/t5893-la-nouvelle-montesa-4rt), and now Todo Trial (http://todotrial.com/ttactual/pruebas/presMontesa4RT-2012.htm) appears to confirm the photos as the real deal, and nobody has anything to say?

  3. To carry out my other projects, I bought a 3rd 315R. A 2002 model. The objective of this one is to make a replica completely overhauled motorcycle, precise and efficient as the original for regular riding. The original fork (in very good condition) went on the Ogawa RTLF Replica. The fork (black tubes) of the 4rt (now RTLF) takes place after a major overhaul on this 315R The shock absorber is completely overhauled (gaskets, buffer, drain, pressure, ball joints) New linkage, new rockers. Carbon swingarm protection, and carbon kevlar fork guard. Swingarm pad, crown guard, front number plate, gas barrel, original grips. The covering receives a two-component varnish resistan…

Fed up with getting water, crud and debris in the top of the airfilter, from the rear wheel, I bought one of these rear mudguard/airbox covers from Feet-Up at SCARBORO', via Ebay I think they're originally made by H&D @ Malton ABS Moulded plastic and cost £15 Easy to fit Hope it works, can't be any worse than Honda's ommission of getting it right The problem - hole between mudguard and airbox The solution

I am new to the Montesa Forum but have posted on the Bultaco Section often. I picked up a Cota 348 bike for $300 (in hindsight too much) and the previous owner told me that it just needed a new kickstart spring. I love the rush of a new project and the hopes of turning it in to something great. But....it turns out that it has a few more issues than just a spring. The kickstart shaft is broken off and the drive gear on the clutch side is welded in place. As well there is something wrong with the shifter side because I found JB weld Epoxy inside the case. What are the chances of finding the required parts at a reasonable cost??? Seems to be fewer sources for Montes…

Hi everyone, Looking for some simple electrical knowledge please. I want to put the condenser under the tank out of the way of the heat as the many threads suggest. What do you connect the red wire from the condenser to, does it get earthed to the coil/frame mount, or to the spade connector off the coil? Thanks.

If i ride in a trial (hang around in sections waiting to go) and the bike gets "hot" i ALWAYS struggle to get the bike in neutral. The symtoms are - i ride to the next section. i switch the bike off in gear and leave it againt a tree to walk the section (it needs to be in gear so it doesnt run off ). I come back to the bike. I try and get it in neutral. It will kind of get there - but jump back in gear if i roll the bike forward a foot. I try again. I cant get it in - so resort to trying to start in gear which usually takes a good few minutes of bashing on the gear lever. I noticed on someone elses 4RT that it was difficult as well so assumed its a case of "they al…

I've searched a bit and have seen a few notes on this, but wanted to discuss further without hijacking another not-quite-related thread ... How often are folks changing their 4RT oil filters compared to the engine oil itself? That fiter is a definite drag, but I'd like to keep putting fresh blood the bike ... seems like there is still a lot of value in doing so even without changing the filter, yes? (and is it me? am I the only one who has to replace the dang LHS cover gasket whenever I change the filter?) Thanks in advance, Jeff

  15. Started by djr_austin,

I'm back with more newbie questions from the Brit on a new 4RT in Austin Texas :-) On the promise of a cleaner burning engine, I moved from ethanol "enriched" gas in the 91-93 range, to VP 110 race gas. Outside of the price, I like the stuff bar one thing. I'm seeing some odd engine behavior in the following scenario. When opened up on the loop trail out to one our our sections, when I'm in a high gear with gas on, its feels like the engine in faltering and might even stall a little. As I gas off it seems to idle down too fast - it recovers cos its a Monty :-) but does this imply something is wrong? Shoud I have changed something with the gas? Should I not both…

http://www.superbikenews.co.uk/insidebikes/honda-switches-montesa-franchise/ So If they're not building the bikes in Spain anymore, then why bother with the Montesa name? I personally think the bike reputation would not suffer from a name change to HONDA, with the added kudos of HRC, the most respected successful bike manufacture in the world. Infact, sales could improve, I really don't see the point in selling a Honda RTL in Japan and a Montesa elsewhere. Just use Honda, new name, new better bike and the world champion riding it. It's not like Honda are new to this sport, with no history or success. Toni has just signed a 2 year contract, could it be the final 2 years …

Hello all I'm thinking about changing my bike and going 4 stroke and having ridden both Beta and Mont I've decided that I want to treat myself and buy the Mont, my only concern is that Pidcocks have given up being the importer, so does this mean sales have dropped to such an extent it is no longer viable being the importer? Before I part with my cash anyone have any idea what the future holds for Montesa or do you think Honda will pull out? Many thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone I recently bought a Montesa 349, with the idea of doing some twinshock trials with some of my mates. When I bought it, it came in a box - apparently with all the parts except the front mudguard - what they didn't say was how much was missing! However, I have managed to rebuild it and she's looking really good now, but I there are a couple of parts I'm struggling to find. Firstly, the airbox. It did come with one, but having got her almost built up, I think it must be for an earlier model as when it's fitted, there is no way I can get the front cover off through the frame. From the photos, can anyone tell me if this is actually the right airbox?? Se…
