Montesa

  1. Started by frontroomautos,

Can anyone tell me how many RPM's the 4RT revs to & how often it needs rebuilding. I am thinking of buying either an 08 Beta Rev 3 270 (so long as the stator problem is no more, ive been told its now sorted since enquiring) or a Montesa 4RT. I like the 4RT better but with its more complicated engine i am wondering about how often it will need a new top end and the comparative cost against the 2 stroker. My theory says that a low reving 2 stroke engine has got to be about as reliable as a high reving 4 stroke engine & when it does need rebuilding it is allot cheaper. I havnt heard of a 4RT going bang other than at championship level but someone here might have expe…

I have now had two long practice sessions at our trials park since fitting the CLAKE to my 06 Repsol. This Ozzie developed combined clutch and rear brake unit is a real eye opener. I found by the second session I was cleaning sections that I had not been able to when the bike was set up conventionally. Found it totally natural and have not once gone for the missing brake pedal!! The biggest surprise has been the ability to lock the rear wheel even on the flat and concrete surface with only reasonable pressure from the one finger and the clutch remains as light as normal. My main reason for trying the unit was that I can rarely hit the back brake when the bike is start…

  3. E3 will offer a replacement plug for the 4 RT's conventional NGK later this year. I have used E3's in my car with improvement in fuel consumption, (and presumably better performance). The E3 uses multiple electrodes. "The E3 part number for the replacement plug will be E3.38. It will be available sometime in August of this year" according to Brad Davis with E3 Spark Plugs. http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/ Rich

Hi all, Does anyone know if the 315 clutch plates from Haven are any good? Will they stop my clutch acting like an on-off switch? Or would I be better off going or one of the other options - i.e. apico, mitani, CR250?

I bought a basket case Montesa 247 Cota today. Frame and motor number is 21M2105. How can I find out what year it is? It is missing the body work and I need to know what body work to get.

I notice on the montesa I just purchased that two bolt/stoppers are not on the headstock, they keep the fork tree from slamming the frame. Should they be there or do you remove them for tighter turns? sam

I was just looking at Trials source.com If you look at their bike model info stuff, it says that the 2004 Montesa is DEFINATELY the last 2 stroke that they will make. Is it true??...Of course it was sure there is a four stroke imminent...but I thought they might continue making the 2 stroke alongside for a while??

Just thought I’d put a few pics up of the 349 White Wonder if anyone is interested? They're not in order, which is down to operator error!😃 but it gives an idea of “before & after”.

I need to change the pads on the front of my 4rt an the 2 bolts holding the caliper in place will not come out ....seized, and the allen heads are now pretty stripped. I have read that this is a common problem and I am sure I have seen some replacement bolts made of titanium or something. Can anyone help??

Hello all. I came by a second hand 2006 4RT earlier this summer and have been giving it some needed TLC. The latest issue to pop up is slight weeping from the seal behind the countershaft sprocket. Has anyone replaced this seal and knows if it just slips on over the shaft once the sprocket is off, or if its a major wrenching project? Hoping I can just lay it on its side and complete the task externally. I have the service manual and nothing is mentioned about the CS seal. I found the replacement part and its on order, any insight into the procedure would be very helpful.

Hey all I may be getting a 4rt with a 2 map PTB soon and was wondering what maps people recommend. Or is the standard maps the best to use. I have heard mentions of Maria Sanz map being very good but unsure how that is different from standard. I will get a shop to redo the maps for me until a get my laptop working so I would like to know what to ask for. I was thinking something along the line of: map 1: A road/ fast map as I ride alot of trails on the bike. But I am unsure the best way to achieve fast acceleration and top speed map 2: something a little mellower with lots of torque. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Scott

Does anyone know who can advise on correct suspension settings for bike, i have tryed all sorts. Im 15 stone 11 at present and have an ohlins shock fitted with stiffer spring. I have recently been told not to have any sag on spring so have adjusted to take up slack. A bit springy now so slowed it down. Front forks i have played with and on montesa have 3 settings this just confuses me . I have 7.5 oil in not 5 as couldnt get enough cushioning (good feel) with making it too springy. I have therfore would the compression up but this makes it too hard and turning a problem so today reverted it softer and more springy, which has helped the tunring. What i want to know is …

  18. Hi all, Just picked up on non-running Cota 247 (1975-ish), and would like to get it going. It has decent compression, good spark (at least outside the cylinder on the two plugs I tried), and it is getting fuel. I even tried a shot of ether starting fluid in the carby and cylinder, but it won't even pop...nothing at all. Any ideas on what to check?
